About the Author
Trevor Holman is English and was born, brought up, and educated in South London, where he worked for many years as a professional musician before moving to Norfolk, also in the UK. For most of that time, Trevor’s career was centered on music and advertising, while also serving in court as a Magistrate / Justice of the Peace.
In 2003, Trevor and his wife, Frances, moved to the Algarve in Southern Portugal, where he began a fruitful collaboration with a local lyricist, and the two of them have written in excess of one hundred songs, as well as four complete stage musicals. Trevor is now concentrating full time on his writing career and is currently working on this series of Algarve Crime Thrillers of which The Faro Forger is the second, following on from where the first in the series The Mijas Murderer finished. Trevor and his wife still live in the Algarve region of Southern Portugal.

Chapter One
Where to start? For me, that’s always the most difficult aspect of writing a book. I was a reasonably successful murder and mystery writer for many years, which was how I used to earn my living, but that all changed a couple of years ago and I’m now a part-time travel and crime writer, and for the last few months I’ve become an official Metropolitan Police Consultant. I thought I’d start to tell you about this latest episode in my life with a brief resume of the events that took place over the last eight months or so, and shaped what was to become this – my new way of life. If you aren’t already familiar with the virtually non-stop goings-on from my previous scribblings, an interesting tome in which the protagonist is now referred to as ‘ The Mijas Murderer ’, I will try and fill you in as they say! On the assumption that you don’t already know this, my name, by the way, is Michael Turner and I’m now thirty-nine years old.
I’m based in the Algarve in southern Portugal and I live in a beautiful three-bedroom villa with a swimming pool, only rented though I’m afraid, with my gorgeous fiancée Dr. Sam Clarke who runs her own private medical practice in an area of the Algarve called Quinta do Lago. This area of southern Portugal gets around 300 days of sunshine a year and I have to say, having now lived here for several years, Portugal is a fantastic country to live in.
The particular area I live in is known by most locals and visitors as the ‘Golden Triangle’, and it comprises of Quinta do Lago, Vale de Lobo and Vilamoura. It got its nickname for the simple reason; most of the villas around here change hands for well in excess of ten million euros, which is why I consider myself very lucky to have been able to rent my own luxury three- bedroom villa.
To cut a long story short, about eight months ago, one of my neighbors was brutally murdered during the course of a robbery
at his home. Sam, who was a very experienced and well- respected Metropolitan police surgeon before moving to the Algarve, and myself got dragged into the case, and we eventually ended up working closely with the police forces of three different countries and Interpol. We travelled thousands of miles around the world acting as undercover investigators, and fortunately for us, we survived to tell the tale. Shortly after it was all over, I popped the big question and Sam agreed to marry me. We haven’t set a definite date for the wedding yet, but I’m pretty sure it will be here in the Algarve sometime later this year, or maybe next?
This particular story begins very much in the way the last one did, i.e. it was a gloriously hot day in early June, and we were both sitting outside by the pool having a cup of tea and a few of my favorite bourbon biscuits when the front doorbell rang. I jumped up and made my way through the villa and opened the door to find a delivery driver from DHL.
“Meester Michael Turner,” he said, elongating Mr. as a lot of Portuguese tend to do.
“That’s me,” I cheerfully replied.
“Ah, that is good,” he said. “I have a parcel for you.” And he handed me a box about twelve inches long by eight inches wide, and roughly six inches deep. It was wrapped in brown paper and sellotape, had three different labels on it, and was reasonably heavy.
Along with the parcel, he handed me his clipboard and asked me to sign alongside my name to say that I’d received the delivery. I duly did so.
“What is in the parcel and who is it from?” I asked him. “I’m sorry Meester Michael,” he replied. "I only know that
it came to you from a big shop in England. Thank you. Good morning." With that, he grabbed his clipboard back, turned around, walked back to his bright yellow van with the well- known red logo and left.
I walked through the house and back out to the pool carrying my parcel and sat down.
“Who was it?” queried Sam.
“DHL delivering this parcel,” I cautiously replied, “but I have absolutely no idea what it is or who on earth it could possibly be from.”
“Oh no,” she replied urgently. “You know what you must do now then?”
“No, what?” I stupidly asked.
“Open the wretched thing and find out,” she replied laughing at me.
I made a rude face and poked my tongue out at her, then ripped off the brown paper to discover a box inside it, informing me that the contents consisted of a rather splendid, top of the range, Canon digital camera, complete with an extra telephoto lens.
“I see,” said Sam, “treating yourself, yet again?”
“Not at all,” I replied. “I haven’t ordered a digital camera. I’ve already got an excellent Nikon which I love, and I have no desire to change it.”
Looking at one of the labels on the brown paper, I could see the ca
