The Discovery of Jane Rodes’s Body
In a perfect little town called Dayboro with a population of only 2,119 people, nothing so heinous had ever happened before, sprawled across the floor in a faded black pair of jeans and a brownish red stained sweater rests undisturbed the body of Jane Rodes. In life she had stunning ocean blue eyes, uncontrollable curly auburn hair and a contagious smile. People would often describe her as extremely kind hearted and never without her nose in a book. A puddle of drying blood pools around her head seeping through the hard wooden floor.
A little after three in the morning of Saturday the 3 rd of June, detective John Monro’s phone begins ringing, drowsily he looks at the device that is now buzzing in his hand, rolling his eyes he answers the phone, Elliot this better be important, it’s three in the morning and it’s my day off. Sleepily barked the detective . I’m sorry John but we have a case, meet me at 7 Cherry road dayboro.
Ugh, fine, I’ll be there soon. The attractive John hops out of bed still half asleep, yanking his suit over his tan muscled body he leaves the apartment. It’s quarter past four when monro arrives at the crime scene in his old blue dented commodore. Clutching two coffees the detective exits the vehicle feeling neurasthenic and hands one to Elliot Joans. Detectives Monro and Joans have been partners and friends for over ten years.
Morning, I picked this up for you on the way.
Thanks, sorry I woke you?
It’s okay. Anyway, how bad is it?
I haven’t been in yet, I got here just a couple of minutes before you did. Elliot replies sounding exhausted. Ok let’s check it out.
As the detectives open the old maple door the putrid smell of old blood and decomposition slaps the pair in the face.
Joans, monro nice to see you both again, the gorgeous Lillie Adams with her jet black hair pinned back, eyes that sparkled like emeralds and her always warm smile greeted the detectives with her usual cheerful personality.
Hey Lil good to see you as well, what do you have for us so far?
Her name is Jane Rodes aged 23, it is definitely without a doubt foul play, the estimated time of death is between 2pm and 4pm Thursday two weeks ago. The neighbour Jason Black is the one who called this morning about a nasty smell transmitting from here. Heads up it’s kind of brutal in there, also you need to watch your step when you approach the deceased.
Thanks Lil.
Detectives Monro and Joans follow the horrid stench to the body, the first thing they see is the victim’s skull completely bashed in.
Jeez. Lillie wasn’t kidding about it being a gruesome one. Groaned Monro.
I’ll start getting the statement from Jason black , flatly commented Elliot. he only volunteered so that he could get away from the body and smell. Once he was outside he took a large breath of fresh air, exhaled and walked over to the man, Jason black looks 39, 45 at most shaggy brown and grey hair down past his neck, hazel brown eyes and a greying beard.
Jason black I need to ask you a few questions if that’s ok with you?
I already spoke to the cops…?
Detective Elliot Joans. I have to go over your statement. Mr black do you know the victim?
Not personally, I’ve seen her around town from time to time, exchanging pleasantries when we’ve crossed paths.
Why did you call this early?
I have been camping with my mate the past week.
Why did you come back at 3am?
I had to work in a couple of hours and needed to shower because I reeked of fish guts and beer.
Can you please give me the name of who was with you this past week so that I can confirm your whereabouts?
Yeah sure, my buddy’s name is Sean James.
What’s your buddy’s number?
Where were you between 2pm and 4pm on Thursday the 19 th of May?
I was at work until 3pm and visited my family from 4pm until about 7pm. I can give you the names.
That would be good, thank you. Did you see anyone suspicious around here two weeks ago?
No I didn’t, I’m sorry.
Ok thank you for your time, if I have any other questions I’ll be in contact.
Before going back inside, the detective called the mother of Jason Black and Sean James and confirmed the alibis. Joans rolls his eyes and looks for Monro. How’d the questioning go?
The neighbour was camping the past week, came back early this morning to shower then go to work, that’s when he reported the bad smell. And both his alibis pan out.
Well I suppose we should start questioning everyone residing in this town now . Replied Monro flatly with a sigh.
At 9:30 detectives Monro and Joans finally arrived at the 20 th and last house to question the last 2 people, Rebecca and Brenden Finn. Rebecca and Brenden are an elderly couple, Rebecca owns the old bookstore, and Brenden owns the local butcher. Knock, knock, knock. Joans tapped out on the door of the old house in desperate need of a paint job. Hello. The fragile old lady said just higher than a whisper.
Good morning ma’am we are detectives Eliot Joans and John Monro, we are here today to ask you a couple of questions about a case.
Oh please come in.
Honey, who was at the door? Brenden enquired in a curious tone.
Just some detectives want to ask us questions about a case they are working on. With that, Brenden waltzes in and plumps down next to his wife.
So what is this about detectives?
Do either of you know Jane Rodes?
Yes we know Jane, she’s a lovely girl. She always comes into my bookstore to see if I have anything new. Whenever she comes in she always makes an effort to greet me with a smile, is Jane in some kind of trouble?
Unfortunately Jane Rodes was murdered on Thursday two weeks ago.
Oh my, that’s awful she was so young, do you know who did it? Rebecca gently sobs.
Not yet. Gently replied Monro.
When was the last time you saw Miss Rodes?
Thursday around 10am.
Did she have anyone with her?
No, she was alone.
Did she have a boyfriend?
Not in the time she has lived here. Miss Finn whispers in between sobs.
My wife is clearly upset, I think it is time for you both to leave. Brenden barks.
With that Monro shoots Eliot a look, they both get up. Monro hands Mr. Finn a card.
If either of you happen to remember anything else please give us a call.
Once Monro and Joans were outside, they looked at one another,
Wanna get breakfast? John questioned.

The 2nd body
Liza Grayson invites the man she believes to be interested in fornicating a relationship with into the apartment that she had lived in since her mother passed away only two years before, completely unaware of his horrendous intentions, she strolls into the kitchen and begins reaching for the scotch, as she turns her back on the faceless murderer, he silently approaches her from behind with the golden brass hammer already raised and continuously strikes her in the back of the head with mighty force until she collided with the floor with a loud thud, exactly the same way he did with Jane just three weeks prior. After ensuring that she indeed was dead, he walked out the door and erased the last twenty
