"Navvi!" Quavo gushed as he bounced Navvi.
I was feeling myself as I laid across the bed watching Navi smile at Quavo. She certainly was a daddy's girl. The way her little chocolate face lit up at the sound of his voice or his presence.
"Damn, I made a pretty baby." I expressed as I took in all of Navvi's beauty
"Nah, she looks like me that's why she is so pretty." Quavo joked.
"Since when? You ain't even the daddy. I hate to tell you, but I been smashing the mailman."
"That old eighty-year white man?" I tried to keep a straight face.
"Yes, he be putting it down."
"At eighty?" Quavo smirked at me, as he knew I was lying. "That's what Viagra is for."
"Yeah, ok." Quavo continued to bounce Navvi and she just giggled.
Life couldn't be better. Over a year ago, I lost my best friend, Quavo lost his best friend and lastly, Quavo had walked away from the dope game. I thought I was going to go into a depression, but it felt good that I didn't have to worry about Quavo's life every time he walked out of the door. He wasn't for putting both our freedom at risk. And more importantly, we were just Ace and Quavo, parents to the most beautiful girl in the world. To be honest, I didn't want my daughter to experience the hurt I felt from losing my parents. We were about to be Clif and Claire Huxtable around this muthafucka.
Me and Navvi get bored in this house while Quavo’s at work, running his chain of gas stations. I was looking to do something other than being in the house. I was a street girl, so this being in the house and being a mama, was a big change for me. While I loved my daughter, this sitting all day in the house was driving me crazy. I wasn't trying to do anything illegal but I needed to be in school or working. But at the same time, I didn't trust nobody with my baby. I had to figure out my life. Real talk.
"Close your eyes babe," Quavo told me as he sat Navvi on the bed. Ayeee! Baby was about to break me off some bread. I did as I was told and closed my eyes and Quavo put my money in it.
As soon as Quavo put the money in my hand, it felt light and I felt my smile turn into a frown. I know this nigga didn't give me no damn fifty dollars. I opened my eyes. It wasn't money at all but a ring box.
"What is this?" I looked confused.
"Will you marry me?"
"I couldn't get an elaborate proposal?"
"The fuck?"
I laughed as I tackled Quavo on to the bed. "Yes, babe!"
I smiled as Quavo took the box from my hand and put this really nice ring on my finger.
"Ace, I'm a thug. I don't know about all that shit," Quavo confessed.
"I was just playing. I love the proposal. I love the ring and I love you."
"I love you too." Quavo smiled as Navvi climbed on us. "I can't see my life without you, Ace. I wasn't on no R. Kelly when we first met, but you changed my life for the better. Get dressed, we turning up."
"With a baby?"
"No!"
"We don't have no one to watch Navvi, tho."
"I got somebody." Quavo had me all the way fucked up. This right here is why I wasn't working, because his sister and mama lived in Ohio, Tyresha in Texas, and everybody else I loved and trusted was dead.
"No stranger is watching my daughter."
"They ain't a stranger. Its Swiss' mom."
I looked down at Quavo side eyed. I didn't know about that. I was leery about everybody and Navvi was too young to tell if someone was doing something to her. What if she was going to be pinching my baby? Navvi was helpless. Plus, what if she found out that I was the reason her son was dead? If she couldn't get to me, the next best thing would be my child. I know I was being paranoid but give me a foil helmet because I didn't mind being paranoid behind my daughter.
"Nah. I'm good." I got up from Quavo, irritated.
"Ace, you can't live in fear like this. Tina ain't about to do nothing to Navvi."
"Do you understand what I witnessed as a child? My father was a fucking pimp. He never touched on me but that didn't stop him from turning out little ass girls. My mom was only twelve when she started trapping. My dad turned her out. Gigi? My dad's last bottom bitch? He was fucking on her when she was ten. Hell-"
"Ace, that is different. Tina ain't no pimp, fucking no little girls."
"What if she knows about how Swiss really died? And she wants to take revenge on my baby?"
"You met her. Tina don't be in the streets. She be at church. She’s missing her son. And while Swiss never had kids, Navvi is the closest thing she got to a grandchild. Don't get mad, but when I be having Navvi, she come and get her sometimes. Navvi loves her. She be crying and shit when Tina leave."
I didn't care if Quavo said Jesus was keeping my baby. He already knew this was a no-no. I was about to act a fucking fool.
"Nigga, you know I don't play that shit about my daughter!"
"She's my daughter too. The fuck?"
"Is she? Because we in this house all fucking day while you doing whatever!"
"Not whatever Ace! Providing for us! I walked away from the whole dope game for us! You the one acting like Norman Bates mama! Not letting no one watch Navvi. You don't want her in daycare, so you can leave the fucking house. I don't live in the fucking streets. I bring my black ass home every night to yo crazy ass. My nigga dead, yo! Why because I choose you and Navvi."
I didn't hear none of the shit Quavo was saying. I was mad that he couldn't see my point. So, I went super petty on his ass.
"You didn't call that stripper bitch crazy. She wasn't crazy when you were smashing that bitch. But the woman that loves you almost died giving birth to your firstborn. She crazy? She crazy because she wants to protect your fucking baby. Yup, ok." I folded my arms.
"Man here you go with that bullshit. I cheated one-time, Ace! Once! How long ago was that shit. You petty as fuck, bruh."
"How I know you ain't cheating now? I don't know. Running around in thot clothes. Who the fuck wears gray sweatpants outside the house?"
Quavo began to laugh. "You fucking crazy." Quavo grabbed me up and kissed me, but I was still mad.
"Don't touch me." I pushed back.
"Quit acting like that."
"No." My voice matched my actions, childish. Quavo kissed me anyway and I let him. "I hate you." I smiled.
"You love me."
"I love you."
"Get dressed, babe. We engaged. Tina going to watch the baby-"
I began to protest but Quavo put his foot down.
"Tina’s going to watch the baby," Quavo repeated. I rolled my eyes as Quavo kissed my cheek.
"I swear if something happens to my baby. I'ma kill you." I warned, pushing Quavo back. But he took it as a challenge as he reached for me.
Pow Pow
"Oh my God! Navvi!"
Ace

M y mind was trying to process the grisly sight in front of me. There was so much blood everywhere and on me. Navvi was covered in blood and crying. As a mother my attention went to her, but it was what was in my peripheral that had me ready to lose it.
"Quavo?" Quavo looked at me and smiled as he stood in front of me.
"I think I got shot."
That's when I notice the blood coming from his neck. Before he could say another word, Quavo began to cough up blood and dropped to the floor.
"Quavo?" I shook him as I tried to calm myself but the man I loved was on the floor dying and my baby was crying. There was blood on all three of us. I snatched up Navvi and rushed to Quavo. I found my cell phone and frantically called 911.
My tears blurred my vision. "Please, Quavo. Don't die. Navvi needs you. I need you." I cried as I tried to keep Quavo awake.
Next thing I know, the paramedics were at the door and working to save Quavo.
"Were you or the baby attacked?" The police officer asked as the paramedics raced out with Quavo on a stretcher. My mind was so foggy.
"No. I
