The incident killed a woman and injured some fifty other people including the assistant commissioner who bravely saved Sir Trevaskis life himself dying of his wounds. Acknowledgments

I am indebted to Sarah Palmer who has been the perfect editor to me as a new and still learning author. She has taught me a lot, supported and encouraged me and kept me on the straight and narrow in all aspects of creating and writing this novel. I couldn’t have done it without her guidance. Thanks also go to my literary marketing professional and advisor, Anthony Keates for his expert help and guidance in getting this manuscript into shape and publication, together with his constructive input and comments, and finally to my family and friends for their continuing encouragement, support and reviews along this journey. You all have my sincere gratitude.
Introduction

A Military, Mission Critical Thriller of Reconnaissance and Action, Set in The Arabian Peninsula also in Thailand and Laos during both the state of emergencies in the Aden Radfan tegion and Thailand’s Golden Arrow Operation, as part of The Vietnam War of the mid to late 1960s .
An emergency began in the British Aden Protectorate on 14 December 1963 when the National Liberation Front (NLF) made a grenade attack against the British High Commissioner of Aden Sir Kennedy Trevaskis, as he arrived at Khormaksar Airport to catch a London-bound flight. The incident killed a woman and injured some fifty other people including the assistant commissioner who bravely saved Sir Trevaskis life himself dying of his wounds. From that day, a state of emergency was declared in Aden
The chronology and framework for this novel’s sequel come from official records and extrapolation of historical facts drawn from the confrontation between British Crown Forces and insurgents of rival organisations: firstly the Egyptian-supported National Liberation Front (NLF) and second the Front for the liberation of South Yemen (FLOSY), who continually attacked one another besides the UK Forces.
The Emergency was triggered by Arab Nationalism attributed to the Arabian Peninsula and originating from the socialist and pan-Arabic doctrines of Egyptian leader Gamel Abdel Nasser.
Author’s Note

In January 1963, with growing nationalist unrest in the Arab Peninsula region, the British persuaded the sheikhdoms of the Aden Protectorates to join together with the Colony of Aden and form a Federation of South Arabia (FSA). These surrounding territories had always been semi-independent. But the British were able to influence their external relations and establish local garrisons in return for military protection and support when needed.
This sequel, like the first novel, is based on many true facts, incidents and actual events of the UK’s Counter Insurgency activities and interrelated military actions.
At the time, one of the Royal Signals Global Wireless Teams was simultaneously seconded as a special forces section to the UK Foreign Office based in the British Aden Protectorate, with a mandate for covert surveillance operations to be known as The Radfan Campaign. It was at the beginning of a savage war that occurred in Yemen from 1963.
It should also be noted locally, on the ground, there had been a lot of changes to the military establishment in Aden, where the British were seeing a large influx of military build-ups, this being especially the case since the assassination by the NLF of the Deputy Head of Special Branch who was supporting the AIC (Aden Intelligence Centre).
He’d been a long term colony Deputy Superintendent of Police and ex veteran of the Palestine Emergency.
This outrageous event in one way actually provoked the Aden Establishment and the British Government to accept and acknowledge the emergency in Aden was not going to go away but was in fact escalating. This was then followed by the arrival of a number of “new brooms ready to make clean sweeps” in the Aden Emergency.
Things were actually starting to happen that indicated London was serious, about getting the organisation to sort out the local ineptness.
First to arrive was George Crick who had relevant and good Special Branch experience.
He was followed by Charles Whitehead an experienced Intelligence Corps Major and would be the liaison and go-between the AIC and the Aden Brigade, together with being liaison officer for the Special Branch and Army’s working relationship.
Then probably the most high profile individual to appear in Aden was James Vine, a very controversial and recent Director of Intelligence of various colonial theatres and was to be appointed as the new Deputy Head of Special Branch.
He was followed by Robert Entwistle who accepted the job as Head of Special Branch, both men in effect reported to the High Commissioner Sir Richard Turnbull.
Robert Entwistle was finally followed by Bill Taylor the very experienced Deputy Chief Inspector of the Kenya Police Special Branch based in Nairobi.
The author has used his personal knowledge of the emergency to write this novel and the narrative also ties-in a few actual historical figures, whilst many others are fictionalised to maintain essential anonymity and are the creation of the author alone. Whilst many of the place names and geography are factual, some government buildings and locations are not. Thus, the novel is completely fictitious, but is based upon a large amount of fact with the author using his research and creative ability to write the following sequel.

Chapter One

The flying time from RAF Eastleigh in Nairobi to RAF Khormaksar in the Aden Protectorate would take approximately 4 hours at a distance of 1,120 miles. Once on-board the aircraft the three Royal Signals reconnaissance personnel, were accompanied by four RAF aero engineers who were being seconded to 43 Squadron, Khormaksar, to provide maintenance support for the Hawker Hunter fighter aircraft squadron based at that location.
With all passengers seated comfortably and belted up, at exactly 1300 hours the 21 Squadron, Handley Page Hastings T5 aircraft went airborne climbing to its operating altitude of 20,000ft where it levelled off, flying on for what was to be a relatively short journey to Khormaksar Airport in the British Protectorate of Aden.
On arrival they could expect to be met by their new local Officer Commanding, a Captain John Phillips, Royal Signals. There would be no FO (Foreign Office) Global Wireless representative in attendance as the
