Description

What do bikers, cowboys, Mafia hitmen, and ice giants have in common? Dragonwülf and the Destiny of Tyr” is a thrilling adventure challenging time and place storytelling with unexpected people and events. Vikings meet the multiverse in this delightful Norse-esque epic page-turner.
What would you do if everyone you held dear were taken from you instantly? Is there anything you would not do for your family?
“Dragonwülf and the Destiny of Tyr” answers that question with the story of an ancient civilization discovered by Sir Robert Winterfall (1850-1932) and translated from ancient writings. As barbarous beasts and soldiers attack the Under-Forest, Wolfclaw, an ancient warrior, will soon face his last deadly series of battles. A pirate Captain, an ice giant, a shoemaker, and an ancient council of beings will be the key to the salvation of the Kingdom and the defeat of an ancient evil.

PREFACE
DR. JAMES WINTERFALL LETTER
Date: Dimension of Loki 1954 AD
Earth
Dear Professor Wilberforce,
Please permit me to introduce myself. I am Dr. James Winterfall, the grandson of the late Sir Robert Winterfall. As you may know, my grandfather disappeared in 1932, and his body was never discovered, even after a lengthy search. Strangely, the only things found were several thick vines of fresh wet seaweed in his office. It baffled the authorities at Scotland Yard.
I am writing to appeal to your once loyal disposition concerning my grandfather.
After leading several disastrous expeditions to try to locate the hidden mountains of what he referred to as the Hrothgorn Passage. Deep in the forest range of Norway, my grandfather believed a realm would have been found called Arom. Therein lived a sect of people of Norse-like tradition but unique in other ways. The people worshipped a little-known god called Roth’l Orca as well as Odin. The writings describe a being known as Ingegärd who caused great fear among the ancient people. This being was called “Witch Queen,” but most likely she served the same purpose as Lucifer.
Sir Robert described these lands under the forests as “lands of perpetual winter.” These lands are under the forests in a remote region of land and water. Some described them as the gateway to Middle Earth, a part of which some have also denied their existence. He came to believe these things after interviewing some of the area’s indigenous people and discovering several antiquities, including a supposed lengthy narrative record on stone.
Sir Robert Winterfall had a supposed predisposition to chronic exaggeration and hyperbole. It was conjecture that the things he had written were either part of his imagination or at least opium-induced paranoia. He hoped to find a passage he claimed to have discovered in his early research as part of ancient stone carvings.
As you may be aware, he recorded that he could not locate the passage. I no longer believe that. I am sure that he encountered more there than he admitted after I discovered some odd artifacts in his mansion. He agonized over the ridicule he suffered at the hands of his colleagues. He was burdened with the nickname “The monster hunter” at the hands of nearly everyone he knew professionally. This name furthered his zeal to search for what may have existed and further damaged his scientific judgment.
Grandfather retreated into an odyssey of opium addiction and alcohol-induced insanity. His housekeeper reported she could hear him sobbing through the heavy doors of his study late into the evening. As an archaeologist and anthropologist, Sir Robert believed he had discovered another ancient civilization, which drove him mad that others ridiculed him
I have recently uncovered more of my grandfather’s research that I had previously not seen, in addition to the original manuscripts from his excursions to the region in 1890-1894. While preparing the decaying Winterfall Manor for demolition earlier this year, I discovered these manuscripts tucked away in a false wall behind my grandfather’s old study. He had hidden them sometime in the 1910s. I am fascinated by the intricate detail and accuracy of the records. Are these a flight of fancy? My feeling now is that my grandfather did locate this ancient civilization. I believe he may have entered the realm he sought. I know this is a bold statement on my part; however, the records are so detailed that it would have been nearly impossible to counterfeit such a thing. I include all I can find that he translated. Unfortunately, he went to his grave not having been taken seriously by his colleagues, but I have chosen you, Sir William, because of the trust he placed in you in your earlier days. Enclosed is a map of the realm and the history of the people of the hidden forest.
My grandfather described a civilization only accessible by a network of caverns and some entrances found at the base of some gigantic fir trees. He said there was a place called “The Portal of the Pines,” which he claimed to have read about in his translations. He launched several sad attempts to navigate the confusing web of spider-like tunnels, including the last expedition where most of his party was lost in the caverns. He was sure of his belief that there was a way to locate archeological artifacts of the people, and due to his inability to find the realm, he was never able to publish his findings as accurate. I believe that his failure to prove the location of what he thought to be genuine is what caused his descent into madness and death.
In the writings are the histories of the forest people of Arom and their pact with a supposed evil King Drak’North, the son of Hrothgorn the Ruthless. According to legend, King Hrothgorn created soldiers from captured enslaved people, patterned their likenesses, and named them after himself. The people of the region collectively knew them as Hrothgorn. They were terrifying creatures that stood nearly four meters tall and had faces of evil that terrified even Kings.
Grandfather was not without his significant detractors. I remember an archeological summit where world-renowned Drs. Booth and Smithey ridiculed his work as “fantastical and ridiculous.” The researchers mentioned above had a wager as to whether or not Sir Robert would attend a particular archeological summit that same year. When he arrived with his signature handlebar mustache and derby, they burst into laughter at such a sight. Ultimately, I suppose their mission was to embarrass my grandfather rather than examine his research.
I implore you, Sir William, as one of my Grandfathers’ final students, that you might give this historical narrative another study. I include the travel notes of Sir Robert’s expedition guide, Mr. J.W. Smithson, who did not return from the expedition and whose later recovered artifacts. His narrative sheds some light on what happened during the last journey. The authorities never found his ship log.
