Description

Alice has been given the chance of a lifetime. She’s been sent back in time to live out the last week of her life. She’s relieved to find that her questions about her past are finally being answered, but as the days pass, she starts to realize that finding out the truth hasn't brought her any peace. When the day of her death arrives she’s relieved to think that she will soon be returning to heaven, but when her death passes and she’s still on earth, she realizes that things aren't going to be as straightforward as she had thought.

INSPIRING WORDS
“I was dying but suddenly had a second chance at living.”
- Shelley Fabares
CHAPTER 1

I was alive. I was alive, but I knew that I wasn’t.
I knew that heaven hadn’t been a dream. I felt wrong being back in my body. It felt like I was an imposter in my own shell.
I shouldn’t have been there. I shouldn’t have taken the fall. I should have stayed in heaven. Who jumps from heaven? An idiot jumps from heaven. Peter was right. I was an idiot.
“You know, if you’re having nightmares again, you can tell me,” Milly said supportively. “I was up anyway.”
Was I having nightmares before I died? The information felt right. “I wasn’t having a nightmare,” I told her, because that wasn’t what had woken me up. If that was even what I could consider what was happened to me.
“It’s nothing to be ashamed of,” she smiled and I wondered how long it was going to take her to drop it. “I know that what’s happening to Peter is scaring you.”
“Peter?” I could feel my eyes growing wide as I looked over to her. What had Peter got to do with the nightmares? Why was I dreaming about him?
She looked confused by my reaction. “You really are out of it tonight, aren’t you?”
“I guess so.” I didn’t take my eyes from her. I was hoping that she would tell me what Peter had to do with anything without me having to ask.
“He’s going to get better, you know,” she said finally. “I know it seems bad right now, but he’s going to get better and you’re both going to have a future together.”
“Together?” I said, before I could stop myself.
She nodded. “You know that I’m right. Peter is a fighter; everything is going to be fine.”
“Yeah, I know,” I agreed with her, because I knew she wasn’t going to shut up until I did.
She looked satisfied with my answer and her eyes turned back to her book, which she’d put over her knee when I’d woken up.
I looked around my portion of the room. There were posters from the horror film Chucky on my walls and a soft, black blanket across my bed. I had a body length mirror propped up against the wall with red lipstick marks kissed across the reflective surface.
