Description

Joachim lives in a huge metropolis, in London, today. A few years ago, he lived in another world... a very small village in Southern Spain. The place where he was born and raised. Two different worlds, nothing strange. The strange thing is that Joachim, today, feels like an alien in both of them. Why? He still loves to do something that most of the people, including his best friends, don't do anymore, in both of the worlds. A simple human habit in danger of extinction. He misses this something so much... that he is, almost, losing the hope to be able to do it again on this planet. He misses this something so much... that he almost convinces himself that he has new friends, new best friends, not real ones, who replaced those of flesh and blood. Will anyone understand him? Will someone help him save the "human" world? Who will comfort him? His best friends...?

About the Author
Fabrizio True is an eclectic. Born in 1976, he is from Calabria, South Italy.
All his Italian teachers told him that he was a writer. So, since he was 14 years old, he grew up hosting, communicating, having ‘live’ human exchanges, ‘talking’, above all having fun with people from all over the world, on holiday in his family Stay Farm.
Fabrizio graduated in environmental economics and did many different jobs. He travelled around a lot, always meeting, communicating with new people and sharing new adventures.
He has been living in London for five years and here, finally, he started to write, but not in Italian. This is his first little big book, madly though and written in his second language, with easy and, he hopes, effective English.
Dedication
Dedicated to my beloved, angelic mother
Mariolina.
To my cool father,
you made history and I’m so proud to be your son.
I will always love you,
you will be inside me until I see you again.
Goodbye
Nana’ Fratto.
To all human beings
no longer able to really communicate.

Acknowledgement
Thanks to Peter L. for making me breathe art in all our ‘good conversations’ and simply to exist.
To Prama B., to still be human, in a place so little human.
To Paul M., for talking and joking so much, like me, with me.
To Alice in Wonderland, for our four days of ‘English’ true friendship.
To Francesca S. – a beautiful piece of my whole life.
I ask myself,
What is friendship?
Of course, each one of us can have a different idea about what it should be,
but we are in 2020. We are fast, each question has a fast, superfast answer.
So I can check straight, in few seconds, online…
the world-wide web…search engine…Google…
type the word…‘friendship’…first result…Wikipedia…
let’s see what they say.
The first definition I found,
reads…
’Friendship has always been considered, at any time,
a fundamental feeling for the social life of people…’
I stop here, it’s enough.
Is it really like this, today?
For sure not how it was for the ancient Romans,
very practical people, not accustomed to emphasising human feelings.
Not like in the Middle Ages,
who knows what friendship was like in those dark times,
I have to read about it.
Not like in the Renaissance.
Not like in the ’60s or the ’80s.
I can say,
certainly, not like today.
Bauman defines this Era as ‘Liquid Modernity’
I define it, ironically, sympathetically and
I can say not elegantly,
the era of
‘Understanding Shit’.
Today,
friendship is so different that,
yes, sadly, but I can really say,
my true best friends are,
they are
not humans.
Yes, you read it right.
Perhaps our true best friends,
of all of us,
(maybe not, I want to hope not,
but could be) they are not humans.
Anyway, I can say it’s true for me,
so I will tell you about my ‘best friends’,
about when I realised they really were my best friends
and about when,
when I lost them,
both of them, for different reasons.
It was Christmas,
no sorry, it was before Christmas,
it was the first week of December exactly.
I was working, I was cooking breakfast,
yes I am a chef, better a cook.
In the place where I was working for maybe a month,
we were in the kitchen.
He, my best friend, I say, I left him there,
watching a recipe.
That day was a fucking busy day.
There were two hours really busy,
tickets non-stop, the machine never was quiet…
Wow!
It’s the best part of the job, the most exciting.
It’s war:
concentration, coordination, speed;
a quick analysis of the time,
until all the dishes I make, they disappear.
The tickets finish and
the customers, of course. I check and
I see the empty clean plates when the waiter’s back,
they are happy and full…
I won!
But in these cases,
I lose the knowledge of time and space,
I lose myself to ‘cook’.
As I do when I dance;
lose myself to ‘dance’.
When the ticket machine was quiet,
we cleaned the kitchen quickly to run back home:
Underground,
one stop,
Tottenham – Oxford Circus.
I check my awesome men’s bag,
He was not there.
Disaster.
It was gone.
It was not with me,
like always. It was always with me,
and with all of us.
Where are you?
My trustworthy and loyal

Smart Phone.
I’m back in the kitchen,
I left it there, for sure.
No, it was not there, I have checked everywhere,
It was really gone…
Disaster!
What now?
There is only one solution,
my other best friend.
He will give me all the help I need,
the help that my best friend, my smart phone, now can’t give me.
Because it has strangely disappeared from the kitchen;
the kitchen where I cook,
but this is another story,
I’ll tell you about another time.
Yes, there is only one other guy
able to help me in a thousand ways:
to top up my mobile credit,
to watch a map, to watch the transport website, to listen to my favourite music
etc….
Really so many fucking useful and pleasant things,
also so many fucking stupid things, it’s just up to us to choose.
Anyway, I can’t continue.
