Description

Alex lives in a world that had changed dramatically. Humans have evolved and have gained animalistic abilities and features such as an advanced sense of smell and sharper teeth. While half of everyone's mind was still human, the other half was more primal. Humanity was split into three different types. Alphas as the highest, and then the Betas and Omegas. Alphas were highly favoured and were easily accepted into society, by setting their own rules for everyone beneath them to follow, so were Betas to some extent, but Omegas weren't so lucky, they were mostly outcasts and unwanted among society. Alex is a strong-willed seventeen-year-old female, an Omega, who detests following the rules, especially when Alphas are involved. However, when she moves to a new school, she meets an arrogant and prideful Alpha named Wraith who is used to getting his own way. The two of them clash but are undoubtedly attracted to one another. Both are stubborn and will each have their work cut out for them as their attraction deepens, but where will their true instincts lead them?

Chapter One

Home
A 17-year-old female Omega was strolling down the street to the local park, which was located just a few houses down from hers. She walked past a couple of female ‘alphas’ and ‘betas’, who were eying her suspiciously.
She passed them with her head held high. As she continued her journey, she couldn’t help but feel the stares that were piercing into her back. But she was used to this, she had to be. She was an Omega, after all. Although her appearance didn’t help much; with short, brown, spiky hair and ear piercings. This Omega didn’t want a mate, so she created a tough exterior to ward off any unwanted suitors.
She glanced at her watch and decided to quicken her pace. Nearing the entrance gate to the park, she squinted her eyes to see two figures looking around and scratching their heads in confusion. The two figures were the same height – a boy and a girl. Both were Omegas, from what she smelt. She smirked and stood a bit behind them.
“Did you miss me?” the short-haired Omega voiced out from behind, her smirk growing.
The two turned around and ran towards her, engulfing her in a tight bear hug.
“Alex!!!”
Yes. Alex was the name of this short-haired Omega, and she had one big attitude.
The boy was named Quill, but Q for short. He had curly hair, which was dyed an indigo colour. The other female Omega named Belle had long brown hair, which was dyed a wine colour at the ends.
After they shared a comforting hug between them, Q and Belle led her over to a rusty old bench covered in moss, not realising that they were carrying Alex with excitement in their arms. Alex, Q and Belle were friends since they met early on in high school.
As soon as they sat themselves on the creaky, old bench, Q and Belle immediately started asking her questions.
“So, how was California?” Belle asked, happy to have her best friend back at last.
Alex was sent to live in California for a year by her parents, well, her father really, for not obeying as she should, which got her into a lot of trouble at school. Although she did like it over there, there was no place like home. So, when her parents gave her the green light to return, she did.
“Warm,” she replied simply and with a chuckle. Q smirked and sat on the back of the bench.
“What was it like? Did you find any suitable mates?” he teased while wiggling his eyebrows.
Belle smiled, trying not to laugh, while Alex let out a scoff.
“You know as well as I do, that that will never happen. Ever ,” she spat out in a mild temper, but Q continued to tease.
“Aww, but I thought you would’ve been stolen away by some,” Q smirked, but didn’t get to finish his sentence.
“Don’t say it. Don’t say that horrible word,” she cut him off, pointing her finger at him.
Q just grinned. “What word?” he teased innocently.
“Alpha.” She turned her head away in disgust. Belle couldn’t hold her laughter any longer and began to tear up, because of Alex’s expression. Q joined her.
Alex loathed that word. It was the most hated word in all of her vocabulary. Alpha. Ugh!
“You never change,” Q said, while clinging onto Alex’s arm.
He had hoped, after a year of not seeing her that she had not grown soft towards Alphas and even Betas, although most Betas were very docile.
“Good God, no! Do you not know me at all?” Alex said, ruffling his hair.
“Oh!” Belle piped up all of a sudden. “I almost forgot to give you this.”
She whipped out a bag, which was hidden under her coat, and handed it to Alex.
Curious, Alex took a look inside. She found a grey pair of jeans, a matching jacket with golden buttons, a white shirt and black converse. Alex looked at her friends with confusion written all over her face.
“A uniform?” she asked.
Belle nodded with a smile. “Yeah, as long as you’re wearing grey with the school badge, it’s pretty lenient. I got it for you myself so…”
“WE got it. I paid half!” Q raged, glaring at her.
Belle shrugged it off. “Anyway, WE know your style, so it should be fine. You are transferring to our school, right?” she asked.
“Yeah, Arcan High?” Alex said, a little unsure of the name.
Belle and Q nodded frantically. They were glad that they were now united as three again, after being apart for so long.
Alex pulled her two closest friends into another hug. “Thanks guys,” she whispered.
Pulling away, she bid her two fellow Omegas goodbye, promising Belle that she’d walk with her tomorrow and meet her at the corner at which they always met. After departing, she looked up at the sky. Seeing at how dark it was getting, she hurried home, not wanting to make her parents angry, especially her father.
Thoughts about school occupied her head. It was in one week! How awful. Coming up the pathway to her house, she paused and gave a small sigh before entering the household.
She crept into the house as quietly as possible, not wanting to alert her parents of her presence. Sneaking past the hall and wanting to make a run for the stairs, she was greeted by her mother and father in the living room.
This was a rare sight, because her father was never at home. He was always too busy to even notice her. He was an Alpha and she was an Omega, like her mother. It wasn’t unusual for male Alphas to treat Omegas as their inferior, regardless if they were family.
Alex didn’t like her father. He was an extremely fake man, from the top of his silver haired head to the tip of his toes. He ushered his way into the sitting room and sat down without a word. Once sat, he beckoned his daughter to do the same. She inwardly groaned as she saw her mother proceed to sit down beside her husband. They were probably going to give her ‘the talk’ again.
This was a daily occurrence for Alex, as she had a little trouble with respecting higher authority. That was the main reason why her parents sent her away to America to, let’s say, gain a bit of guidance, but Alex, being her stubborn self, didn’t help matters.
Letting out a deep sigh, she began to drag her feet towards the sitting room and took the seat facing her father.
She slumped into her chair with a look of boredom on her face, while her father clasped both his hands together on the wooden table. He breathed out an irritated sigh before he spoke, obviously hating these talks just as much as his daughter hated hearing them.
“We have to go over the rules one more time,” he cut straight to the chase, not wanting to waste his time or breath. “What are the rules?” he said, closing his eyes with frustration as Alex stayed quiet.
“Alex,” her father spoke in a stern tone, laced with warning.
“To shut up and obey…” she mumbled under her breath, but hadn’t quite finished her sentence.
Her father relaxed, finally able to get his point across to his daughter. “Good.”
“…is what you expect me to say.”
Spoke too soon.
The corner of her lips began to twitch upwards, until she caught sight of her mother patting her father’s arm, trying to calm him.
It wasn’t really working as his hands were now balled into fists. He was about to stand up in fury when her mother stepped in and intervened. She rubbed his shoulders and eyed Alex as if to say, Go to your bedroom, quickly!
Although she was married to such an angry and unpleasant man, she had her ways in calming him in situations like this. After all, this was Alex they were talking about. Her disobedience brought nothing but trouble.
Quickly dashing up the stairs, she retreated to the warmth and safety of her bedroom. After closing the d
