Synopsis
This novel, Rose Beanie and the Best Summer Adventure Ever! is about four enthusiastic children that work on a summer project together. They call it ‘The Best Summer Adventure Ever’.
Rose Beanie is the main character. She lives with her mum and her cat, Spunk. Her three friends are Molly, Albert and Archer. They all go to fifth grade together at the same school. They work their way through the novel through many delicious meals and funny conversation. The novel is a comedy with a mystery in it.
This unique and fascinating novel starts off with the last week of fifth grade. Rose and her three friends come up with the idea to create a movie at a camp at Archer’s farm, called Camp Farm it UP! At the camp, they learn how to care for the animals: a chicken, goat, miniature donkey and cow. They also learn how to grow crops of corn, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and lemon cucumbers. And they have fun in the bunkhouse. The friends all support each other with love and humour.
Together the four friends plan, create and edit the movie during summer vacation. Rose’s mum films the movie, and Molly’s mum plays the Camp Counsellor. They edit the movie at the local library with the librarian. They play characters in the movie: a southern belle, a rodeo girl, a rodeo boy and a hip-hop city boy. There is a mystery that takes place at the camp when Rose’s ring and Archer’s watch suddenly go missing. They solve the mystery together.
The movie is a comedy with a mystery in it. They show the movie to a part of the town toward the end of summer, and become local celebrities. Everywhere they go, they are asked for their autographs and are given positive feedback about their movie. The novel ends with a sleepover at the bunkhouse at Archer’s farm. The four friends can’t wait to start 6th grade together.
Chapter 1

The Surprise Dessert
Rose went to the store to buy a jar of spaghetti sauce for her mum. She skipped the whole way. She thought about all the ways she and her friends could have fun this summer. It was so exciting!
Adventure galore! she thought. They live by a gorgeous creek, a forest and a giant meadow. Town is close by too . Hmmm . The ideas were abounding!
Rose skipped into the corner grocery store and saw Franny right away. “Heyyy!” she waved real big like!
“Heyyy!” Franny waved back!
She slowed her skip a bit to round the corner down the spaghetti aisle, yummmyy! She LOVED spaghetti! The veggie kind, of course!
“Gettin’ some sauce?” Franny asked.
“Yep!” Rose replied with a smile.
“The usual?” Franny asked.
“Yep!” Rose replied. They both laughed.
“Roll it on up here,” Franny giggled.
“Okey-dokey!” Rose carefully picked out her usual tomato and fresh basil sauce with parmesan cheese, yummm! She skipped up to the counter. “Here ya go!” she said to Franny.
“Okey-dokey!” Franny laughed. “Same as usual, $2.18.”
“Yep!” Rose laughed as she dropped the exact change on the counter, all coins, of course! She was only 10 after all.
“ Perrrfecto !” Franny said with a smile.
“Okey-dokey!” Rose laughed. She took her jar and rolled on out of the store, “Later!”
“Later!” Franny hollered back. They both laughed and Rose continued her skip two blocks to home.
“That’s it! We’ll film a funny movie! Maybe a mystery or something! That would be sooooo much FUN! Oh YEAH!” she said aloud. Her cat Spunk was right there listening. He was a shorthaired, orange and white striped kitty. He loved to follow Rose to the store and pretty much anywhere.
“What ’a ya think, Spunk? You like it?” Spunk put his tail up and he smiled from ear to ear. Rose knew that was a good sign. “Yep! Spunk likes it, ladies and gentlemen!” Rose said in a funny announcer’s voice.
Spunk gave a funny meow, “Mowrow!” and he smiled some more.
Rose laughed. She skipped all the way home. “I can’t wait to tell the rest of the gang!”
Spunk followed closely next to her, still smiling.
Rose walked through the front door of their two-bedroom, craftsman-styled home on Lilac Street. Lilac, lilac, her bedroom was bright lilac. The living room was a light shade of lilac. They loved lilacs. “They smell good!” she and her mum always said. Rose lived there with her mum and her cat, Spunk.
“Wassup, Mummy?” Rose laughed to her mum.
Her mum laughed. “Not much, Rose Pie! You got the stuff?” she asked.
“Yeah, baby!” Rose answered.
They both laughed. “Bring it on over! It’s almost ready to go in. The veggies are just about done, nice ‘n’ crisp, just how you like ’em!” Rose’s mum said.
“Here it iiisss, the most delectable sauce in the whole wide world, ladies and gentlemen! It’s the BEST ever! That’s for REAL!” Rose said in her funny announcer’s voice.
“Pour it in, my sweet darlin’!” her mum said in a southern accent.
“Okay, Mama,” Rose replied in a southern accent as well. Rose poured the pasta sauce in the pan with the freshly grilled veggies. “Are the noodles a-cookin’?” she asked continuing her funny southern talk.
“Oh YEAH! They’re about six minutes away. Check it!” Her mum laughed as she pulled the lid off the noodle pot.
“Okay, they look delicious!” Rose replied. She was hungry! “I’m settin’ the table.” She grabbed two large plates and one small plate from the open cupboard, lilac-style plates, super pretty! She set them on the table. She got two forks and two spoons from the silverware drawer and placed them all on the table in their proper places. “Napkins on the left, juice on the right, forks on the left, spoons on the right, small plate for Spunk, we’re all set!”
“Perfect timing!” her mum smiled as the noodle timer went off.
Rose sat down at her seat at the table to wait for the giant bowl of pasta and salad to be delivered. Her mum really liked doing that part.
The food finally arrived, two minutes seemed like forever! Rose grabbed the tongs and served herself a ton of salad with yummy dressing. “Thank you, Mum; this looks super-duper!” she said with a giant grin.
“I’m eatin’ PASTA tonight!” her mum said as she filled almost her entire plate with spaghetti, “And the best sauce ever.”
Rose laughed and waited patiently to serve herself a huge portion of spaghetti too! “And some for my super-cool cat-friend, Spunk!” She served her kitty a small plate of pasta with a few pieces of lettuce on the side for decoration. “C’mon, Spunk! Come sit on your chair, it’s time for dinny-din-din!” she patted her hand on Spunk’s chair, and Spunk jumped up friskily and sat very politely to eat his delicious dinner.
They both laughed. “We must have the funniest cat in the world,” Rose’s mum said.
“I’m pretty sure we do!” Rose exclaimed.
“Well, dig in, my sweet darlin’!” her mum said in that southern style.
“Yep! Yep! Can’t wait!” Rose said, fork in hand, in anticipation.
Spunk went first. He ate the spaghetti like it was no one’s business.
Rose giggled while she watched him eat. She dug her fork into her mound of pasta and swirled it around with the spoon in the other hand until she had a giant bite to eat.
Her mum looked at her and laughed, “You gonna eat that whole thing?”
“I’m gonna try!” she said, eyes wide open and a giant grin.
“Go for iitttt!” her mum said, watching the pasta-eating event.
Rose stuck the fork with the mound of pasta into her mouth. Her mouth was so full she could barely chew,
