Description

The Seventh Eternal is a science fiction/ fantasy tale that begins nearly 7000 years following the first two novels. 7000 years earlier evil nearly destroyed all life on Earth and was working to do so on other worlds in the universe. It would have succeeded had it not been for Etana and the guardians. Now Etana and Ethaniel, Earth's guardian and their four children have returned to Earth in an effort to avert another such disaster. One element is missing however. Their youngest child, a son who is reborn from an evil past and raised in the ways of good. His birth marks him as the seventh member of their family and the seventh Eternal. His choice for either good or evil will determine the fate of Earth and its inhabitants.

PROLOGUE

Good and evil have always been. They existed before the universe was ever formed. They are constant opposing forces throughout all time and space.

* * *

Seven thousand years ago the nearly omnipotent woman child, Etana was brought forth from the past to aid Earth in its battle against evil. This fight also included six other known good worlds on which evil needed to be defeated. Etana was required to find the guardian on each of these six worlds and bestow upon them the power to free their worlds from evil. This had to be done before Earth could be saved. As a result, evil nearly destroyed all life on the planet before Etana returned to find Earth’s guardian and restore life to Earth.

* * *

The old ways and memories are gone. They were taken from mankind to allow them to begin again. To allow them to have one last chance to make the choice for all concerned. What man decides, be it for good or for evil, will determine the final fate of mankind, the Earth and the universe itself.
It is a new age. A new Earth, reborn from the dust of the past. A new race of humans, taught from an early age to respect and care for their neighbors. Taught by the ones who came from the heavens. Six seemingly ageless beings that man has come to call the Eternals....

* * *

They have been called by many names over the thousands of years since their arrival. The Sky People, the Aesir, the Avatars, the Ancients, the Watchers, and finally the Eternals. Many tales have been told of the old ones, making them into beings other than who they are. They have been called angels and demons, fairies and sprites. To others they are the unknown forces that govern the lives of men.

The legend says they came to Earth from the heavens, nearly seven thousand years ago. It was only fifteen short years after this world was reborn, the time when the people were still very young and learning how to survive. It is said that they arrived in a shining vessel along with many others of different races to help mankind to grow and learn. The stories say that soon after their arrival, they made the Eternal mountain rise out of the grasslands in the center of what was known to them as North America. From that time, the Eternal mountain became and remains to be the tallest in all the world.
The legend tells us that within the rocks of the mountain, there is a magical chamber. The Eternals are said to have created this place to teach mankind about their past. Once every thousand years, for only seven days, the chamber is opened. Any who wish to learn may enter the mountain and view the wondrous and sometimes frightening images on the walls. Though random in nature, the images are said to show both the good and the bad of the previous ages of man. It is these images that have allowed this age of man to make many significant advances, including space travel, far earlier than in the past.
The legend also speaks of a wondrous city within the mountain, separate from the magical chamber. This city is said to be the chosen home of the descendants of those who arrived in the shining vessel with the Eternals, though many have ventured out into this world over the many years. It is also said that the Rega were among those who accompanied the Eternals to Earth. They live in harmony among those who dwell in the city, however some have chosen to live among the people of this world. They are a humanoid, reptilian race, most of whom choose to keep to themselves and their peaceful ways. It is told that those of their pure bloodlines, living in the mountain, are known to show themselves sometimes, but only a short time before and during the time that the magical chamber is open.
The legend tells us that a storyteller will emerge from the city in the mountain, a few days before the chamber is to be opened. It is said that he will be the descendant of all of the earlier storytellers. Those who have been entrusted with the tale of the Eternals, having been passed down from father to son through the years. It is the storyteller’s obligation to prepare those who are about to enter the chamber in what they might be privileged to view. However, even the storyteller cannot be absolutely certain as to what the Eternals will have chosen to share with mankind.

CHAPTER I

The Eternal mountain loomed high above, towering over the expertly manicured gardens at it’s eastern base. Normally the peak was silent, laying dormant, a lonely sentinel in the center of a vast prairie. Peaceful until the time neared for the storyteller to emerge from within the city and tell the tales of the Eternals and what they had done for mankind.
When the mountain rumbled, it was felt all over the Earth and people began gathering in the main garden, which was a natural amphitheater, waiting for the storyteller to arrive and for the stories to begin. They were a series of historic tales told over many days time, with the final one being told on the day the magical chamber would be opened to any who wished to enter. This year, eight thousand, nine hundred and ninety, it would take a full seven days to tell the stories of the past.
Hundreds of people were already gathered, with more arriving on transports every few hours. Though most had been told or had read the stories as children, they still came to listen to the words of the storyteller and the mystical way he was supposed to tell the tales. As such, those people carefully watched the trees and bushes at the base of the mountain, hoping to catch the first glimpse of his coming out to speak to them. History had told them that the storyteller would reward that person with the place of honor to listen to him.
A flash of white in the bushes, seen only by a young girl and her announcement of it, brought cheers from all around her. Then silence as they watched a feeble-looking old man walk out from the trees in the direction of the gardens. He stopped momentarily, leaning on the staff he used to steady himself, and surveyed the large group already there. The sunlight seemed to glisten off his white robes, long hair and beard as he smiled and bowed slightly to them before resuming his slow walk towards the garden.
As he entered, another cheer went up from the crowd, making him smile to himself while walking to the stone bench on the terrace above the main garden. He was the storyteller and he was real, not just a person made up to draw people to the Eternal mountain. He was the one who would tell the tales of the Eternal’s, passed down in their pure form, through the generations, so that all would know about them and what they had done for mankind. Unknown to all of them was the truth that he was the one and only storyteller that had ever existed.
The old man’s crystal blue eyes sparkled with excitement as he stopped in front of the bench and looked briefly at the tall stone monolith behind it, then faced the large crowd of men, women and children gathered there. The column and the message it contained inside, would continue to wait until it was needed.
The people once again fell silent, waiting anxiously for him to begin the day’s tale. Among them, he saw familiar faces. Six of them, also waiting for him to start. He recognized them immediately and nodded to each in acknowledgment of their presence. Three young men and three young women, though only young in appearance, known to him for so long that he had almost lost track of the exact time. His blue eyes softened as he tried to remember them as children, before they had become the Eternals so long ago.
The mountain rumbled softly behind him, bringing his attention back to the present and his current task. He sighed, knowing that the entrance into the mountain chamber and the wonders held there, would soon show itself. It was his duty to tell the stories and prepare the visitors for that thousand year event.
You are wasting time, Old man. A familiar man’s voice said in his mind.
I know. He replied mentally, looking directly at the one who had spoken to him. It helps to build the suspense, boy. His gaze moved to the young woman clinging to the man’s arm. There was a tired sadness hiding behind the content look in her lavender eyes. She quickly closed those eyes and leaned her head on the man’s shoulder to hide her feelings from him.
“Very well,” the old man said aloud. “Let me say welcome friends. It is my honor to be here before you.” He bowed slightly, then continued. “Who among you was the first to see me coming?” His eyes fell on the smiling face of the young girl who had seen his robes through the bushes. “Come up here, little one. You have earned the place of honor today.” He gestured with his bony hand at a bench at the front of the crowd, just below his own seat. She proudly walked up and took her place, while the storyteller smiled at her, gathered his robes and sat down on his own bench.
“Now I shall begin at the beginning,” he said, looking at the crowd
