Description

In this science fiction novel, the third in a series, following the destruction of Earth, human colonists work to establish themselves on a distant planet among alien beings.
In the middle of the twenty-first century, an exceptional group of men and women set out to colonize another planet, which would come to be known as the planet Gabriel. Meanwhile, those who were left behind create SLFs—synthetic life-forms designed to aid humanity. Then, in the twenty-fifth century, the earth is destroyed by a massive asteroid, with a small group of humans and SLFs just barely escaping. Now they and the colonists of Gabriel are all that remain of the human race.
The Gabriel Chronicles, the last volume of a trilogy, tells the story of the extraordinary lives and adventures of the men and women living in this new world. It tells of the birth of two infants who were extraordinary in appearance and abilities and who may represent the next step in human evolution. As humanity works to establish itself on Gabriel, the colonists experience miracles, natural disasters, and the new planet’s first murder. They also encounter an ancient race of alien beings whose intelligence and technology are far beyond those anything they could imagine. Now only time will reveal humankind’s new place among the races of the galaxy.

Author’s note
T his science-fiction novel is not based totally on conflict, as most are; rather, it’s based on the lives of human colonists as they progress on their new planet. Most of the science fiction in this and the previous novels in the trilogy is based on scientific fact or generally accepted theory.
The Gabriel Chronicles , the last of the trilogy, tells the story of the extraordinary lives and adventures of exceptional men and women. The following explanatory notes are for the benefit of those who have not read the first two novels.
SLF (pronounced “self”) stands for synthetic life-form. At the beginning of this novel, there are just three SLFs living on the planet Gabriel: Vance, Troy, and Gary.
The Norman and the Marian are starships built on Earth for the sole purpose of colonizing another planet. The Norman is a single sphere one hundred meters in diameter and contains twenty decks. The Marian is made up of five such spheres, each the size of the Norman and connected to the others by large corridors. The Marian looks similar to a giant jack in the children’s game jacks. The Norman , piloted by the SLF Vance, left Earth in the year 2030. The Marian , piloted by the SLFs Troy and Gary, left Earth 415 years later, in 2445.
Stasis is a state-of-the-art method of putting living beings in a frozen hyper-sleep. The colonists in both the Norman and the Marian were transported to Gabriel in stasis. Those in the Norman remained in stasis for four hundred years while Vance seeded the planet Gabriel. The colonists of the Marian remained in stasis for just forty years before arriving at Gabriel. When SLFs go into stasis, they simply turn themselves off for whatever period of time they wish.
Vance Youngblood is a retired SEAL captain. He is of average height and powerfully built, and he has an olive complexion, menacing dark eyes, and wavy black hair that starts low on his forehead. He is highly intelligent and clearly not a man to be on the wrong side of. Vance provided the planning and security for the WGC before becoming a SLF and captaining the Norman from Earth to Gabriel.
Troy and Gary, Earth’s last leaders, headed the World Guidance Council (WGC). They became SLFs in order to pilot the massive starship Marian in escaping Earth before a massive asteroid destroyed it.
Troy is medium height and slender, with short-cropped brown hair and brown eyes. He looks and acts like the CEO of a large corporation.
Gary is a tall dark man with curly salt-and-pepper hair and dark eyes, and he possesses an excellent scientific mind. He was second in command of the WGC in the years prior to Earth’s destruction.
Alexander Gabriel is tall, blond, and handsome, with striking blue eyes and an average build. Alex was the main protagonist in the first novel in the trilogy. He was the driving force in creating the WGC five hundred years before Troy and Gary were born.
Teddy is as warm and caring an individual as can be found. He is a born entertainer and a lifelong friend of Alexander Gabriel; he appears in all three novels.
Dale Isley is a small, tidy, good-looking man. He has brown hair and a manicured beard and is considered one of the greatest minds in history. Among his many accomplishments, Dale invented Isleium, the substance the SLFs are made of. He designed the weapon that allowed the WGC to take over all of Earth’s governments and enforce mankind’s conformity to the new laws imposed by the WGC. Among his hundreds of designs and inventions was the propulsion system for the Norman , which was also used more than four hundred years later on the Ma rian .
The planet Gabriel has six continents: the North Pole and South Pole, which are uninhabited; the Vast Continent, the largest; the North Dumbbell and South Dumbbell; and the Ring Continent, where the planet’s colonization began.
There are three other alien races in the novel Gabriel , the second in the series. The Vout are an advanced race. They are tall, thin, hairless, friendly, and somewhat boring. They were the first to befriend the humans. The Malic are short, hairy, ugly, and vicious. They attacked the humans of Gabriel, which resulted in a short war that killed two dozen humans and all but four of the Malic. The Yassi are short, cute, hairless, and delightful. They are more technically advanced than the humans and Vout and became fast friends and allies. Their starships are stunningly beautiful. The Yassi woo in lieu of clapping or whistling.
Aside from the two main human starships, the Norman and Marian , there are smaller ships called runabouts, both large and small. There is nothing fancy about these ships. They appear to be little more than stylized boxcars with pontoons. They are the workhorses and are used as transports of supplies and personnel. There is also a beautiful shuttle built by the Yassi and gifted to the humans of Gabriel.
Home-Bay is the original colony of Gabriel. It’s located on a beautiful bay on the west side of the Ring Continent.
It was decided early on that for those on Gabriel, the days, months, and years had to be adjusted to sync with the actual length of days, months, and years of their new planet. The time the planet Gabriel took for one revolution on its axis was divided into twenty parts, resulting in twenty hour days. Gabriel orbited its sun every two hundred of these days, so that became the length of their year. Those two hundred days were divided into ten parts, resulting in ten months containing twenty days each. The months were simply named Mo-One through Mo-Ten. A date of January 5, 2018, on Earth would read as Mo-One 5, 2018, on Gabriel.
The first book in the trilogy follows the life of Alexander Gabriel, a brilliant investment broker who is shot back in time to begin his life over starting at age eight. It tells of his accumulation of a vast fortune over the ensuing decades. He uses his massive wealth and the assistance of three other exceptional men, each with a unique area of expertise, to change the world.
The second in the trilogy, Gabriel , continues the story of three of these four men. Dr. Isley creates a substance that allows him to build natural-looking prosthetics, giving amputees around the world functional, lifelike limbs and paralyzed people new functional nerves. Years later, he takes this incredible technology to its ultimate conclusion. He builds a complete synthetic life-form, a SLF. The synthetic body and brain are designed to accept the complete intelligence, personality, and abilities of any human. Vance Youngblood became the first SLF.
With Alexander Gabriel’s money and Dale Isley’s brilliance, the WGC builds a colossal spaceship designed to take a small number of colonists to a distant planet. The SLF Vance Youngblood captains the ship. He alone, over the next fifty years, develops the planet Gabriel, making it suitable for human habitation.
Alexander Gabriel and Dale Isley appear as holograms in this and the novel Gabriel . Their intelligence, personalities, and appearance are stored in the starship Norman ’s computers.

V ance had a small smile on his face as he entered the beautiful shuttle, a gift to the humans of Gabriel from the Yassi. That’s the last stop , he thought. No
