CHAPTER ONE THE RETURN OF THE LOTTERY TICKET INCIDENT
The story continues from the book, “The West Side Kids in A Pocket Full of Wishes.”
“Wait! Don’t go yet!” insisted Kelly. “Isn’t that both Chris and Michael in the store? Hannibal, I want you to come in the store to talk to my brothers about our one million tax free deal. I want them to know you gave me the fifty million dollar winning lottery ticket when you didn’t have to and about the evil people chasing us to Burlington.”
“Come on girls, let’s go into the store so I can feel that I finished my job,” instructed Hannibal.
“Hey brothers, I brought some company,” beamed Kelly. “Hannibal is alright because he brought Betty and me here with the winning lottery ticket.”
Hannibal, I want you to meet my brothers. This is Christopher Seven Murphy and this is one of my other brothers, Michael Eight Murphy.
“It’s nice to meet you Chris,” acknowledged Hannibal. I already know your brother, Michael who goes by the name, Dr. Zodiac.”
“It seems like everybody has a nickname but me,” reckoned Chris. I’m told that everybody at your detective agency has a nickname, but not me. Why not me? Just what are the names of your men at your agency?”
“Well, I started out the nickname as Hannibal that my dad gave me,” beamed Hannibal. “Scooter was given his nickname by his parents. Then, when we formed a baseball team in second grade and all the kids on the team wanted nicknames, they heard ours. Let’s see. There is I’m Not Sure, Because, Who, What, I Don’t Know, Smiley, You Don’t Say and Whatever.”
“Well, I want a nickname, like them,” insisted Chris. “But what do you think it should be?”
“That’s a good nickname,” laughed Hannibal.
“What’s a good nickname?” asked a confused Chris.
“What you just said,” chuckled Hannibal. “What Do You Think?”
“What do I think? Just what are you talking about?” challenged Chris.
“Your nickname,” declared Hannibal.
“I think that’s a good nickname,” laughed Kelly.
“What nickname? That’s what I’m trying to find out,” reckoned Chris. “What should my nickname be?”
“Older brother, read my lips,” jested Michael. “Hannibal says your nickname should be, What Do You Think?”
“Oh, now I get it,” replied Chris as he kept hitting his head with his right hand.
“You did it Kelly. Isn’t this a wonderful day? You made this the happiest day of my life,” praised Michael. “You know how long I waited for this? I didn’t expect you back until tomorrow.”
“It sounds like you were having your usual good times. Michael and I thought you were crazy to go to Davenport. If you can understand this, when you told me that you were going to go to Davenport to get the lottery ticket, it just made me ill,” growled Chris. “When you have a problem, you confront it. You knew what you had to do and you did it. In the case of the winning lottery ticket, you and Betty did everything the best. Michael and I did everything the worst.”
“I know we have a relationship that we don’t tell each other what to do,” reassured Kelly.
“Is that what you’re telling us?” asked Michael. “Chris and myself thought that you should give up before you left for Davenport. There is one thing about progress. You never can tell what is going to happen.”
“I thought you were right, but I had an idea and decided to go with it anyway. Because you failed, you didn’t have to blame me. You’re only a failure if you believe it. You have to believe in yourself. It was just mind over matter. I had a
