Robert has never had an easy relationship with his dad and that isn’t about to change on his father’s deathbed. CHAPTER 1

Sarah
He left in such a rush. I wasn’t even sure what was happening until he was already halfway through the door. That had been three weeks ago and I hadn’t seen him since. He’d called a few times, but he’d barely been able to stay on the phone for more than a few minutes and I was starting to wonder whether I was wasting my time. I mean, I liked Rob. I really liked Rob, but I barely knew him and it felt as though I’d been waiting for us to get started longer than I had even really know him.
“Are you okay?” James asked me when my mind had been taken over by the dilemma.
“No, not really,” I answered him honestly.
James had really made an effort to be with me since Rob had left. I kind of suspected that Rob had put him up to it, but I didn’t want to ask outright. I didn’t want to offend him. He was quickly turning into a friend and I didn’t want to lose that.
“Anything I can do?” He sat down beside me at the library table.
“I don’t think so,” I said. “I mean it’s selfish of me really anyway. I was just kind of hoping that Rob would have been back by now.”
James didn’t say anything for a moment, which struck me as odd because James was always the first one with something to say. I glanced over at him and noticed a strange look on his face. It was almost boarding on hurt, but that didn’t make any sense. “I guess you’re missing him, huh?” he asked, when he noticed me looking at him.
