Description

The thrilling tale of a young woman’s dark journey to claim her destiny and retrieve what was taken from her as a child.
When she is born to a manipulative mother and alcoholic father, Keira unwittingly becomes part of her parents’ abusive relationship. After numerous attempts to escape, Keira becomes deeply depressed. But what she does not know is that she has a unique destiny.
After her mother murders her abusive husband and becomes involved with a self-professed sorcerer, Keira is assaulted in the middle of the night by a man who, while attempting to escape through a window, allegedly falls to his death. Unfortunately, her traumatic experiences continue as her younger brother is hit and killed by a drunk driver. But when she learns she may be in some way responsible for the horrific events, Keira becomes receptive to deception and uses her anger as the fuel to endure her challenges. As she practices her own brand of justice not based on the courts, she transforms into the judge, jury, executioner, and incubus’s daughter who must battle her own darkness, all while searching for a soul mate.
Whom Shall I Serve? is the thrilling tale of a young woman’s dark journey to claim her destiny and retrieve what was taken from her as a child.

CHAPTER ONE
CHAOS
Matilda and George came home from church to find their house engulfed in flames. Andria screamed as she ran out of the house, her hands severely burned.
Andria took off her denim vest, and a box of wooden matches fell from her pocket.
“Where did you get those matches?” asked George.
“Near the fire pit,” Andria replied sarcastically. The candles set the living room curtains on fire.”
It was difficult for the Clays to adjust to their daughter’s growing need for attention. Andria was aware of her ominous side. At night, Matilda and George are frightened by Andria, standing in a trance at the foot of their bed.
Andria’s parents were so concerned about the behavior that they sent her to a private boarding school until she was twenty-one years old. Shortly after her twenty seconds birthday, Andria married Francis Cozbi. He was a handsome man with deep brown eyes, a slim build, and an alcoholic. Andria drove him insane with her almond-shaped eyes and thick black hair. She had mastered the art of manipulating her husband to the point where she could get whatever she desired. However, there was a cost. She had to put up with his rage.
Andria had a successful nursing career, but she yearned for more. Francis and Andria welcomed their first child, a daughter, and named her Keira.
The baby had a fever. Her delicate ears were red, and she cried uncontrollably. Francis could not stand the baby’s cry anymore, so he slammed the crib against the wall, causing Keira to scream. Andria ran and picked up the baby.
“Shut that kid up. I cannot take it anymore!” He shouted.
“Francis, you son of a bitch! Are you trying to kill her; she’s only five days old. The baby needs a doctor,” hollered Andria.
Francis left the house and walked to the nearest pub. That night he came home and brutally beat Andria.
Five years later.
Keira’s parents argued more often over the years, and the violence escalated. Keira could not take the violence anymore, crept out of the house, and ran to a nearby church. The lights dimmed as she entered the vestibule, creating strange shadows on the old stone walls. Keira shivered as she stood in front of the candlelit tabernacle, praying for an end to the violence. In the morning, all is quiet, as though that horrible night had never happened. Andria remained silent, expecting a repeat of last night’s beatings. She pressed against Keira, kissing the top of her head, and Francis sat at the breakfast table without a care in the world.
Another night of fighting between her parents has begun, and Keira seeks refuge at The Nativity Church. Officer Longhouse, patrolling Water Street at two a.m., discovered Keira sitting on the church steps.
“Why are you here in the dead of night?” The officer asked.
Keira shrugged, “I am waiting for the church to open.”
“What is your name?”
“Keira,” she whispered.
“Is there something you are not telling me?”
“No, sir,” she replied.
Keira was frightened of her parents. As she watched her father beat her mother day after day, she feared the same thing. Her mother had fallen into a depression and became easily irritated with Keira.
Keira pleaded with the officer.
“Please, let me go home. I will never do this again.”
Keira never returned to the church. By the age of twelve, she had tried suicide. In her twenties, she planned another suicide attempt. As Keira lay in her bed, contemplating her death, a supernatural force surrounded her. It lifted her out of a deep depression.
CHAPTER TWO
DEATH AND DECEPTION
Francis came home drunk and passed out on the couch. Then later that evening, Andria tried to wake him.
“Francis, please wake up, and come to bed.”
Andria stared at his sweaty face with disgust.
“I have taken all I can from you, Francis. Your beatings and insults stop now. Die, you drunken psychopath.”
Andria grabbed a cushion from under his head and smothered him until he was dead . The level of intoxication was a stage five stupor; therefore, there was little resistance. Witnessing her husband’s death gave her an ultimate high.
Andria couldn’t sleep after what she had done. She thought about wrapping his body in a sheet and burying him in the backyard. Dismemberment would make it easier to bury him in the basement. Even so, his decaying body parts would stink up the house. Andria lived in a community of nosy neighbors, and she was terrified of being caught. Andria had mentally rehearsed all the possible question-and-answer the police would throw at her and mournful facial expressions. Then, at eight o’clock in the morning, she decided to call the police and play the part of the innocent wife who woke up to find her husband dead.
“Mam, what time did your husband come home?” Asked Detective Miller.
“I have no idea. It was around eleven o’clock last night. Francis entered the house, his legs trembling, and flopped on the couch.”
“Why didn’t you call an ambulance?
“Francis is an alcoholic who often sleeps for days after a drunken binge.
“Andria, you appear indifferent to your husband’s death.”
Having the ability to cry at will, Andria continued.
“He was an evil man. Karma has a way of making things right.”
Dr. Hajji entered the room, bowed his head, and avoided making eye contact. He never speaks unless necessary.
“Francis has been here for a while, suffering from alcohol poisoning. So there is no need for an autopsy.”
Before leaving, he stared into Andria’s eyes, sending chills down her spine.
“He must have been in a hurry. Dr. Hajji usually checks the corpse’s core temperature; sorry; I mean the body before he leaves.” Said detective Miller.
CHAPTER THREE
THE LIES BEGIN
Andria was chopping vegetables when she noticed a woman peering through the screen door. She cut her finger on the cleaver, surprised by the unexpected visitor.
“Sorry, Andria, I did not mean to scare you. Are you preparing dinner?” Asked Marion.
“BBQ ribs and granny’s caramel apple pie for dessert.” She said proudly.
“Marion, come in. Would you like a cup of tea?”
“No thanks. Devon is waiting for me. I’m throwing a party tomorrow night, and you’re invited.”
“What is the occasion?” Asked Andria.
“Devon’s final divorce papers arrived yesterday, and I hoped we could help him celebrate his newfound freedom.”
“Excellent, I will call the sitter.”
“He is looking forward to reuniting with old friends. Sorry for leaving so soon, but I have some baking to do.”
Devon is a successful corporate lawyer, and he is Andria’s ticket to a life of luxury.
It’s eight o’clock at night, and the babysitter hasn’t arrived yet—a black Charger squeals around the corner and grinds to a halt in front of the house. Andria stood on the veranda patiently.
“I’m sorry for being late,” Veronica said. “I just got off work.”
