Foreword

I have always been fascinated with space travel ever since my childhood when I would listen to space programs on the radio or watch on TV.
Children have such vivid imaginations. I am sure that many of the characters and situations throughout this book, were born all those years ago when I would dream about life on Mars.
I hope you will share my dream and enjoy your journey to Mars in this adventure story.

Glossary
Prologue

2009
Zelmut’s reputation had been tarnished and he didn’t like it. In fact, he was seething. Taneka had almost succeeded in bringing him the little red wishing book but had been terminated by his fellow Martians who had mistaken him for the enemy.
Then the Almighty had ridiculed him by defeating one of his prized champions – the Blattidae and had rescued the young humans by transporting them back to Planet Earth. This time it would be different. He had a lot to live down and he was determined that he would prevail. The power would be his.

While on Planet Mars, the warriors used their reliable Troganbugs to transport them over the planet. However, for a long trip, such as to Planet Earth and return, the Leoxostone, Zelmut’s volcanic gemstone with many powers, was able to beam them instantly.
At times, Zelmut would use the Zupers – special space carriers crudely called spaceships or flying saucers by the humans. These however, were only used for observation purposes over Planet Earth because the negative side to these was that they could be easily spotted by the humans and had been in the past. Beaming was much safer and more secretive.

Zelmut strolled around his headquarters with his trusty servant Yermin, their heels clicking in time on the stone tiles. Together they had selected and trained two warriors who were the greatest of champions. They had passed every test that they had been faced with and they were ready.
Zelmut and Yermin stood before their champions, Tawnoosia and Gorbarg and Zelmut addressed them.
“You two are my greatest warriors, handpicked for a truly wonderful mission. Gorbarg, you are to go to Tenerife and capture the human, Pedro Armaz and the little red wishing book.
Tawnoosia, you are to go to England; Dorset in fact, and find the young humans, John and Penny Carter, Jimmy Swift and Aaron Walker. When you have them in your power, you are to transport them to Tenerife and meet up with Gorbarg and the Armaz character. Then bring them all together to me. I will receive the book and gain my long awaited power. You will both be honoured with the highest of honours and will rule with myself and Yermin on Planet Mars.”
“What shall we do with the humans once they’re here, Your Highness?” asked Tawnoosia.
“We shall feed them to the young Blattidae,” replied Zelmut.” They are almost fully grown now and will show no mercy at all.”
“Your wish is our command, Your Highness,” said Tawnoosia and Gorbarg, bowing as they left the headquarters to prepare for their transporting to Planet Earth.
“When would you like Tawnoosia and Gorbarg to go Your Highness?” asked Yermin.
“Beam them to Planet Earth tonight,” commanded Zelmut. “I have waited too long for my power to begin here in the Solar system. I will wait no longer.”
The Novel
One
Life had changed drastically since the children’s return from their unforgettable and awesome trip to Planet Mars. In fact, it was sweet.
When they had returned the little red wishing book to Pedro Armaz in Tenerife, he had promised them that they and their families would receive great prosperity. They had indeed. John and Penny’s parents had won a million pounds on the Lottery. Jimmy’s father had been fortunate in having a book published for which he received a fortune and Aaron’s parents had reunited with his dad being promoted to a wonderful job.
Each family had moved into lovely homes in the village, all within easy reach of each other. Life had really been wonderful to each of them.
Most of the children’s time was spent together, whether it was at school or in their free time. The trip to Mars had drawn them all closer together. In the few months since their return, they had been inseparable.

“I love this house,” said Penny, “and my bedroom’s awesome.”
“Yea, mine too,” replied John, “I can see Jimmy’s bedroom from mine and we can look at each other as we’re talking on our mobiles.”
“Aaron seems happier as well,” continued Penny, “I’ve never seen such a change in a person. He was so aggressive before, but it has all gone now.”
“Yes well, he’s got his parents back hasn’t he?” said John.
Just then, their father came into John’s bedroom where they both chatting excitedly.
“Hey kids,” he said, “do you fancy a holiday in Tenerife?”
John and Penny exchanged glances. They had not long returned from the Canary Islands and hadn’t expected to return there so quickly, if at all. It wasn’t a problem though as it had pleasant memories for them.
“When are you planning to go dad?” John asked.
“Well it’s the beginning of October next week and we’re looking at the last couple of weeks of the month. It’ll be great. October’s a little unpredictable here in England but over there, it should be still quite warm. What do you think?”
“It sounds great,” said Penny. “What part of Tenerife are you planning on?”
“Your mum and I thought it would be good in Playa de las Americas,” their dad replied. “It’s just up from Los Christianos and it’s beautiful.”
“Yes we know,” said John without thinking.
“How do you know?” asked their dad surprised at their knowledge. “You’ve never been there.”
“Oh someone at school has just come back from there,” said Penny, getting in quickly before John blew it all.
“Oh right,” said their dad. “Well there you go. It’s all arranged then. We’ll go on the 17 th . That’s only a few weeks time. Exciting hey? If you like, why not ask Jimmy and Aaron if they’d like to come with us. We’re getting a villa and there is loads of room. I’ll square it with their parents if they want to come.”
With that, their dad ran back down the stairs to answer the telephone, probably one of the many calls he was now getting in his new satellite business.
“Flipping heck,” said John, “we’ve only just come back from there.”
“I know, but this will be different,” Penny said, “our first ever holiday.”
“We could go and see Pedro Armaz,” said John, “that’d be good. We could tell him about how his wish for prosperity for us came true.”
“Hmm, we could do,” said Penny cautiously, “but if mum and dad found out, it might take a bit of explaining.”
“Yes, that’s true,” said John. “Let’s go and ask Jimmy and Aaron and see if they would like to come with us. It’ll be great if they do.”

Pedro Armaz sat in his wonderful garden overlooking the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. For late September, it was quite sunny and warm – 22C. A gentle breeze blew through the tops of the high palm trees as he sipped on a cool glass of orange.
Life had been wonderful since he had regained ownership of the little red wishing book. He had decided to put it in a very safe place this time in order to avoid any further mishaps like last time, when Zezmatas, the Martian warrior had broken into his villa and stolen it. Only his son Julio knew the location of the book.
He sat and watched as his new gardener, Alfonso, worked among the shrubs, preparing them for the winter. The season itself, was not as bad as England, where cold frosts and perhaps snow made it virtually impossible to preserve valuable plants and shrubs. However, preparation still needed to take place in his Tenerifian garden and he felt that Alfonso had everything perfectly in hand.
Alfonso had replaced his gardener of 25 years. He had retired and was now relaxing on another part of the island. Alfonso had come from Spain where he had been highly recommended and had been able to provide excellent references. Pedro had taken him on not knowing anything about his family, or indeed his former employers, except for the paperwork that had been provided. He felt though, that he would be an ideal replacement. He had wanted the best gardener for the money he provided and Alfonso was the only one that had been able to meet this requirement.
“He’ll be okay,” he said as he came to the end of his cool drink. “He certainly looks like he knows how to handle this garden.”

Pedro Armaz could hear his wife Rosa in the kitchen preparing their lunch before they had their well-earned siesta. The place had been a little quiet for the past few weeks because their son, Julio, and Grandson, Miguel, were away on business. Since Pedro’s daughter in law had died in a car crash 2 years ago, Julio had thrown himself into his work and using the villa as
