Chapter 1
The Zodiac Empire woke up to another bright and sunny day. Accompanied with the melodies of birds and the soft wind breezing from the sea, the young man with brunette hair and middle height was called Ethan Harper, and he was riding his bicycle through a tunnel-like road surrounded by poplar trees. The sharp winding road strayed him from the coast and led him to a pathway filled with stones. After climbing up on the steep hill, he stopped on the hillside, and with amazement, he looked at the splendid view lying before his eyes. He first noticed a gorgeous castle that had four domes and walls built with sunstones; the castle was surrounded with fences made with wrought iron. The castle was The Zodiac Empire’s college building. Before the castle, there lay 200-year-old, gigantic beech trees rising from the middle of a thick mist and a forest full of thorny plants. The forest was hosting wild animals, raptors, snakes, and poisonous insects living in the mossy swamps. None of them were friendly creatures. Deep down in the mysterious forest, there were hundreds of pathways entwining one another like a spider web. People believed that the forest was changing the routes of those paths as if it intended to entrap humans. That’s why they called it The Labyrinth Wood. The lake winding around the castle was filled with rafts that were rotating the lake in a charming manner. The students coming to the castle were jumping into an available raft and then getting off from it when they reached one of the four piers; each one of them was with a different color and located in front of each dome. After stepping out of the raft, the students were walking into the building, passing through the tall gates.
Ethan checked his watch and rode his bicycle down the hill with high speed in order to catch the class. The gentle touches of the wind on his face made him high in spirits. He went to the parking place by wandering around the fountain that was just behind the tall and the belted entrance door. Some of the students were running to and fro by joking around with each other. Another group of students, holding books in their hands, were walking before him, trotting their steps toward the lake while rubbing their eyes, and they seemed as if they didn’t even get a wink of sleep since they spent the whole night studying. Some students were playing the guitar and singing songs. The girls, sitting under the shadow of a plane tree, were whispering to each other, and they were laughing heartily. When Ethan looked at them, he felt reassured that he was living in quite an incredible world. As Ethan came closer to the lake, a handwritten note on the noticeboard drew his attention. It read as follows:
THE MINISTRY OF FIRE red pier Aries,
Leo, Sagittarius
THE MINISTRY OF AIR white pier Gemini,
Libra, Aquarius
THE MINISTRY OF AQUA blue pier Cancer,
Scorpio, Pisces
THE MINISTRY OF EARTH brown pier Taurus,
Virgo, Capricorn
The Zodiac Empire was ruled by The Selected Families living in a glamorous place called Starry Pyramid, which was outside of the city, and these families were also under the custody of The Council of Elders.
People were divided into 12 signs according to their date of birth. These 12 signs were grouped into three, and they were placed under the four ministries, which were called Earth, Aqua, Air, and Fire. The ones gathered under a specific group had the same abilities. The Selected Families were controlling these four ministries, and they were correspondingly being controlled by The Council of Elders. According to their starring abilities, every person, till the age of 18, was getting educated in the class affiliated to the relevant ministry. The ones who graduated started to work in the sector fixed by the ministry, and on leaving their family homes, people began to stay in the houses arranged again by the ministry itself.
Only the branches of arts and sports were open to everyone. People desiring to be artists or sportspersons, whatever sign they belonged to, deserved to work in the field if they passed the Zodiac Ability Test. The children of The Selected Families were getting educated for years in order to exert their prevailing abilities granted to them by the magical and mysterious world of Starry Pyramid, and at the same time, they were trying to learn how to lead the sector by working in the ministries.
Which ministry each sign was affiliated with and at which pier the students would get off from the boat were clearly recognizable on the noticeboard. It was something really practical for the students who recently started college. A group of students was discussing something loudly and fervently by waving their hands and arms. It was quite obvious that they were a group whose signs were Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, the ones belonging to The Ministry of Air. The trilogy, representing affairs, were the kind of people who were smart, intellectual, energetic, strongly sensible, and highly talkative. After graduating from The Stars College, they began to work in the fields of communication, media, education and training, social justice, and security. This group of students got off from the raft when they arrived at the pier at which the tall, white-colored gate stood. Ethan also belonged to The Ministry of Air, but now and then, he saw himself as somebody quite different from the others. He felt as if he was granted more abilities than the ones given to him by Air.
He fastened his bicycle to the metal pipes in the park, and right at that moment, some of the books fell from his unzipped bag. He jammed them back into his bag, grunting. While Ethan was walking toward the lake, a young man came to the parking lot, skidding the wheels of his sports car, decorated with skull pictures all over it. The young man was called Roy Derrick, a senior student. Roy, who was blond and tall with a bony face, always wore tight-fitting T-shirts to show his muscled body he managed to develop by practicing at the gym. It was just his style, anyhow.
Roy was getting educated at The Ministry of Fire that controlled Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The trilogy, representing life itself, was affiliated with The Ministry of Fire, and they had the spirit of leadership and also a strong ego, and they were powerful, brave, and ostentatious. After graduation, they began to work in the fields related to the state and law, public relations, the enhancement of staff, or they started to work for the centers doing research about the teachings of spirituality and philosophy. Surely the case was different for Roy, who was the son of The Selected Family. He was going to be recruited at The Starry Pyramid, which encapsulated the mysterious powers and also functioned as a kind of a store for the energy of The Zodiac Empire.
Roy’s father, Brenton Derrick, who owned the abilities that The Ministry of Fire was concerned with, was a successful and remarkable person in The Starry Pyramid. Brenton Derrick was the Minister of State and Law. Roy snatched a priority thanks to his father’s success. Though he had a kind of a snobbish character and was not a successful student, he was quite a popular young man at school, especially among the girls. Since he was one of the members of The Selected Families, Roy thought that he was superior to the others, and he also believed
