This book is further dedicated to Jessie Lilley, my friend and business partner, who accepted the challenge to help me complete my book. Throughout the years, she relentlessly read and corrected every single word and phrase with much encouragement. This book happened because Jessie accepted the challenge to help me. Thank you so much, Jessie!

This Book is finally dedicated to my lover, friend, mentor and husband, Phil Wright. With Phil, the journey to write began with total support and encouragement. I thank you so much darling, for your backup.

FOREWORDS

Sir Roger Moore KBE:
I cannot believe that over thirty four years have passed since working on Live and Let Die with Gloria and I certainly can’t when I look at pictures of her today.

I well remember our first meeting in New Orleans; she was very bright and bubbly and obviously would be a great asset to our production despite the question of James Bond being romantically linked with, as it was called in those days, a lady of colour . Today, thank the Lord, we have moved on and that is one of the reasons I am sure that the readers of her autobiography will be intrigued and puzzled by the attitudes of 1973’s bigotry.

Live and Let Die was a very important film to me, being my first as 007, and I thank Gloria for helping to make it such an enjoyable and happy shoot.

Greg Berman:
My friend Gloria is one-of-a-kind. She has boundless energy and a true passion for everything she does.

Lynn Holly:
It is a joy to spend time with this lovely lady, Gloria. She exudes equal amounts of warmth, sincerity and gumption. Now that’s truly an odd combination. But with Gloria you get a life that takes no shortcuts. And spending time reading Gloria’s book is the next best thing to spending time with this vivacious gal. I am honored to be a pal to Gloria Hendry.

Elaine Horn-Tyler:
I believe in my soul that “friends”, true girl friends, are either meant to be forever .  . . or not at all.

Gloria is my “true friend” . . . and I say that because we were “unlikely friends” in the manner in which our friendship took root, blossomed and endured over 40 years.

My mother, Pauline Horn, was the owner of a modeling school and agency in Detroit, Michigan . She was the head of “Creative Artist Development” for Holland, Dozier & Holland aka Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Edward Holland. It was her job to groom, polish and be the “glorified den mother” for the new recording artists being signed by H-D-H . . . and to deal with any personal issues that may interfere with their job. Our business, Pauline Horn Enterprises & Elaine’s School of Dance, had featured models and dancers for many record events that Berry Gordy gave during the “early days” of Motown, i.e., Hitsville USA like the “Motown Fox Theatre Revue”.
