Description

Sample Book Insights:
#1 I was completely unknown before I was famous. It was much more fun. I did open-mic comedy in a Las Vegas casino, and when a local stripper wanted me to beat her senseless while I fucked her poorly, I considered myself to have been discovered.
#2 I did a show for nobody. The loudspeakers in the casino were announcing free comedy at eight p. m. every five minutes or so in the hour leading up to showtime, but there was still not a soul in the house. The Wig, in a panic, demanded that the show go on as planned. I got good enough that I was able to play to a few people more than nobody and for a little bit of money.

#1

I was completely unknown before I was famous. It was much more fun. I did open-mic comedy in a Las Vegas casino, and when a local stripper wanted me to beat her senseless while I fucked her poorly, I considered myself to have been discovered.

#2

I did a show for nobody.
Insights from Chapter 2

#1

I was in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on a tour of obscure western towns. I don’t recall the show, but I know that the next day my car wouldn’t start and we couldn’t find a shop open on a Sunday to fix it. I went back to the bar we’d played and found the same bartender. I spun my tale of being shipwrecked and stranded over free beers until she offered me a bed for the night.

#2

I wanted to call Wiley to see if he had any more details about the pig incident, but Wiley was one of those old friends who only had one good story to share. I was exhausted from living on the road for three years, and I didn’t have any advice for new comedians.

#3

There are no set rules for you as an individual, much less across the board for comedians. The more you learn, the more it tears your ass out when you still aren’t perfect. Eat before you drink and make the stage as fun for yourself as possible.
Insights from Chapter 3

#1

Do not open for or do breaks during a live band. The audience that is there to hear live music do not want to hear you talk, no matter how much your drummer friend tries to convince them that they will love you.

#2

The author and his friend booked a show at a private party in the Hollywood Hills, where they were greeted by children’s parties.
