[1][2] Joey Lauren Adamsis an American actress who has appeared in more than thirty films.(born January 9, 1968) She is known for her distinctive, raspy voice and for her roles in View Askewniverse films, particularlyMallratsand Chasing Amy, with the latter giving her a Golden Globe for Best Actress nomination.
Career She began her film career in 1977 with a small part inExorcist II: The Heretic. In 1991, she appeared in the 100th episode ofMarried... with ChildrencalledTop of the Heapand subsequently starred in its short lived spinoff. In 1993, Adams landed her first major film role as Simone in Richard Linklater'sDazed and Confused. The same year, she appeared in theSaturday Night Livespinoff filmConeheadsas one of Connie Conehead's friends. Two years later, Adams appeared inMallrats, written and directed by Kevin Smith. The two started dating during the film's post-production, and their relationship provided the inspiration for Smith's next movie. Meanwhile, in 1996, while Smith was finalizing the script forChasing Amy, she was cast for a role in the slapstick comedyBio-Dome, which was directed by Jason Bloom. Adams played the role of Monique, girlfriend to Bud Macintosh (Pauly Shore). In 1997'sChasing Amy, Smith cast Adams in the lead role of Alyssa Jones, a lesbian who falls in love with a man, played by Ben Affleck. Later, Smith would describeChasing Amyas a "sort of penance/valentine" and a "thank-you [3] homage" to Adams. In addition to her acting work on the film, Adams wrote and performed the song "Alive" for the movie's soundtrack. Adams' performance inChasing Amyearned her both the 1997 Chicago Film Critics Award and Las Vegas Film Critics Society Award for Most Promising Actress, and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress-Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. From there, Adams was originally slated to play the female lead in Smith's next film, 1999's [4] DogmaHowever, she would later make brief appearances in two, but Linda Fiorentino ultimately got the part. other Smith projects: the 2001 filmJay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and the 2004 animated shortClerks: The Lost Scene, featured on theClerks XDVD. In both of these appearances, Adams reprised the role of Alyssa Jones. Her post-Smith projects included playing a spunky veterinarian's assistant who falls in love with a single father (Vince Vaughn) in 1998'sA Cool, Dry Place. The following year, Adams appeared in her first big-budget Hollywood release, playing Adam Sandler's love interest in the successful comedyBig Daddy. She then went on to appear in many smaller films, includingBeautifulandIn the Shadows. In 2005, she had a guest role in an episode of the TV showVeronica Mars. Also in 2006, Adams released her directorial debut,Come Early Morning, starring Ashley Judd, Jeffrey Donovan, Diane Ladd, Tim Blake Nelson and Laura Prepon. Adams returned to TV in March 2010, on the Showtime seriesThe United States of Tara. She appeared in six episodes as Pammy, a barmaid who falls for Buck, one of the title character's alternate personalities. Some speculation has been made that her high-pitched speaking voice has hampered her chances of Hollywood stardom, to which she has commented: "It's not a normal voice. It doesn't fit into people's preconceptions about what a woman's voice should sound like. My mom doesn't think I have an unusual voice, though. I'm sure it's helped me get some roles. ButChasing AmyI almost didn't get. There was concern the voice would grate on some people, [6] [7] which some critics said it did." One film critic referred to her voice as a "sex-kitten-on-helium". Another said [8] that whether viewers loved it or hated it, her voice had "the potential to hypnotize."
Personal life [1] Adams was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Her father was a lumber yard owner. Adams grew up the youngest of three children in the Overbrook neighborhood in North Little Rock. She graduated from Ole Main High [8] School in 1986. She announced her intention to pursue acting after an exchange-student year in Australia. She moved to Hollywood in 1988, but currently lives in Oxford, Mississippi.

Big Daddyis a 1999 American comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan and starring Adam Sandler and the Sprouse brothers. The film was produced by Robert Simonds and released on June 25, 1999, by Columbia Pictures where it [1] [2] opened #1 at the box office with a $41,536,370 first weekend as well as a score of 41% on Metacritic.
Plot Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler) is an unreliable, unmotivated 32-year-old bachelor who lives in New York City and has declined to take on adult responsibility. He has a degree in law but has chosen not to take the bar exam since he was awarded $200,000 in a vehicle accident compensation years prior, and lives off his restitution. He is employed, on a part-time basis only, as a toll booth attendant, and more or less does this job just to get out of the apartment once in a while.

Big Daddy (1999 film)
Meanwhile, Sonny's friends, all former schoolmates, are "moving ahead" in their lives. His roommate, Kevin Gerrity (Jon Stewart), decides to ask his podiatrist girlfriend Corinne (Leslie Mann) to marry him, which irritates Sonny, since he and Corinne dislike each other. Kevin decides to pop the question the day before he is leaving for China for his law firm. Two of Sonny's friends, Phil (Allen Covert) and Tommy (Peter Dante) are now revealed to be homosexual and in a committed domestic partnership, which surprised Mike (Jonathan Loughran), another friend of Sonny. Sonny's girlfriend, Vanessa (Kristy Swanson), disgusted and perplexed at Sonny's inconsistent conduct, decides to end her relationship with himand also find a new much older man, Sid (Geoffrey Horne) with more reliability. Kevin reveals to having fathered an illegitimate son, Julian McGrath (Dylan and Cole Sprouse). Sonny awakes to find Julian abandoned at his and Kevin's apartment, with a written explanation that Julian's mother is now declining to care further for Julian. It is later revealed at the Social Services Office that the boy's mother died of cancer. Kevin, at the airport ready to go to China, gets a call from Sonny, informing him of the letter and the boy. Sonny decides to handle the situation himself, and, in the process, decides Julian will solve his problem with his ex-girlfriend. His plan backfires when Vanessa rejects him, and Sonny ends up at Child Services, trying to give Julian back. Rather than give Julian to a group home, he decides to hang out with the 5-year-old boy until a new family is ready for him. In caring for him, Sonny discovers a new purpose in his life and a deep connection with Julian as a father figure. But Social Services rep Arthur Brooks (Josh Mostel) discovers that Sonny is posing as Kevin, and insists that he give up Julian. Brooks takes Julian and decides to press charges against Sonny. The case is brought to court, where Sonny has his friends as counsel, including Layla (Joey Lauren Adams), Corinne's sister and Sonny's new girlfriend, and Kevin. Despite positive testimony from his friends and Corinne, a homeless man (Steve Buscemi) and his own father Lenny, also a prominent attorney, the judge is ready to sentence him to jail for kidnapping Julian and defrauding the state. At this point, Kevin steps forward as Julian's father and insists that no charges be filed, having remembered a drunken fling with a Hooters girl in Toronto during the 1993 World Series, and connecting that with Julian's earlier testimony of originally coming from Toronto and being born in July. The judge grants custody to Kevin to the dismay of Julian, who wants Sonny as his father. Sonny tells Julian that can never happen because his real father is present, but they can be friends. One year, three months, and six days later, Sonny, now a lawyer and married to Layla with a child of their own, is surprised with a birthday party at Hooters attended by all his colleagues and friends, including Julian, but is more surprised to find Vanessa working as a Hooters girl, and her boyfriend Sid, working the grill, apparently not as rich as Vanessa had thought him out to be.
