Description

The stars are in alignment. Her dramatists and scholars have spoken on the tapestry of these pages as a testament to the powers that be and the knowledge of the ancients. The language and the expertise involved will speak to your heart in praise of Africa. These word artists, these scholars and dramatists bring their life experience to the book, a noble kind of variety, an energy, their particular aura, the juxtaposition of the effervescent flux of ideas, ideals, innovation and ideology. The narrative in the essays and plays is based on reality and non-reality, the substance of dream killers in some very captivating and enticing lines, it is Africa’s time to shine. This volume is anchored to a dream, and tethered to a goal. Since ancient times there have been generational curses in the bloodline and strongholds that are determined not to let us go. Terrain that in a nutshell has been deposited in our genetic code, but now it is time for the divine awakening of our ancestors and for divine wisdom and new insights to prevail. We owe our ancestors that much. There is truth that speaks to power on these pages.

Introduction Could this be the golden age of the African Renaissance? Again Nigeria, the land of milk and honey when it comes to educationalists, universities, intellectualism and quantitative thinkers takes the lead. The palimpsest and tapestry of dramatists and scholars in this volume is energetic, filled with purity of thought, the vessel of intention and opportune vision. The Nigerians are a powerhouse, pioneers invested in storytelling and research within the symbiosis of a genuine reality. The signs and symbols are there on the page of self-transformational agency, access, interchangeable objectivity that quantifies and solidifies the standing of scribes, seers, prophets, and so we contemplated about this novel generation of seekers coming out of Nigeria, coming from the deepest, darkest continent of Africa in chapters and parts, characters oozing influence and meaning, a metaphysical inquiry into the lasting effects of the vestiges of the “historical landmarks” that has touched the blueprint of social justice and inequality, enlightenment and consciousness of dramatists and scholars appearing in the no holds barred landscape of Nigeria. This body of work, this creation boldly searches for the intersection between political scenario and bureaucracy, familial bonds, structures and hierarchies. Each of these cultural practitioners and social anthropologists dive deep into the recesses of the mind. Over the years, since ancient times there has been ancestral knowledge systems that have defined who we are as scholars and dramatists at the heart of who we are. We were defined by the courage of our warriors on the battlefield, the peaks and troughs in

the energetic field. These knowledge systems have helped us transition from an Occidental mode of thinking, to maintain our ministerial norms, values and principles as seekers, scribes, and age old prophets in this novel era. This mindset alongside the African methodology, existentialism and phenomenology has stood the test of time. As far as we are concerned our belief systems and psychological framework has not changed on the African continent when it comes to fable and folklore steeped in history, the tradition and heritage of oral storytelling and mythology. Both dramatist and scholar take sands of time, the mysterious hands of the clock, illustrious knowledge, and the nuclear family into their stride. With each thread complementing memory and gut symmetry, the phantasmagorical forecast of primordial soup in melting pot, the juxtapositioning of ideologies following the natural efficiency and exponential consistency of what is trending, the hallucinogenic and psychedelic symbolism, signs and symbolism this continent has to offer. Personal ethics, infinite intelligence and self-improvement also have a hand in turning these texts and flow of ideas from African soil into a narrative on the Promised Land. Discontent, "kingdom", the science of the family in Africa, there is the interplay of social issues, principled justice, societal norms, what we consider commodity and atomic value since ancient times, the search for meaning, spirit in these pages. We grasp Bunmi Adedina’s play "Alone" through fables, folklore and parables. It is a representation as are the other works of Nigeria "in continual flux". The writing is fluid and complex, the scale is visionary and dense, sparse morsel and yet food for thought that nurtures and provides sustenance, attention is paid in microscopic detail to place, location, location, location, space

whether it is creative or justified. The spotlight falls on the question of gender based violence, gender inequality, cultural favour and influence. You strike a woman, you strike a rock. Eziwho Emenike Azunwo, the curiously inventive title “Broken Snail”by Chika Onyashiyiwa Ose-Agbo, "The Mirage, or The Vast Misenlightenment of Andy Ntia" by Itunuoluwa Williams, "Domestic Violence in Contemporary Nigerian Drama: A Discourse of Julie Okoh’s In Our Own Voices" by Eziwho Emenike Azunwo starts us off in this volume. Writing for writers. The writers in this volume are trailblazers, setting an impactful and sequential course in action and with their expertise they are not only advocates or rather setting up literal “force-shields” and predetermined advocacy bodies, they are history in the making on the face of this continent marking time in the global arena. This is the golden age for dramatists coming out of Africa. Essayists, researchers and scholars have been establishing their opinions since ancient times, interpreting contemporary society. We adapt. Africa has always adapted. Europe is the museum of the world filled with empty palaces, and if America is the Prozac Nation of the world, filled with poverty, scarcity, self-help and personal development gurus, despair, discontent at all levels in society, dis-ease, economic recession, the powerful celebrity of Trump and the spotlight firmly centered on a reality television driven era, a population that finds life meaningless and without purpose if they are not driven by materialism, material worth, then they are driven by a poor mindset and a non-substantive paradigm of their psychic and intuitive beliefs and systems. Whereas Africa has the upper hand when it comes to the modus operandi of the signs and symbolism of spirit and spirituality and ancestral
