About the Authors
WENDY VOLHARD
Wendy Volhard developed the Natural Diet in 1973 after her first Landseer Newfoundland, Heidi, was given only a few months to live at the age of 6. Once on the Natural Diet, Heidi lived to the ripe old age of 12. Since then, countless dog owners have followed Wendy s Natural Diet to enhance the health, longevity and quality of life of their dogs.

Wendy Volhard
Wendy specializes in the influence of health and nutrition on behavior and complementary sources of health care, such as acupuncture, chiropractic and homeopathy. A respected consultant to breeders, dog owners and veterinarians, she is also an internationally recognized lecturer. For the past 30 years, through her training classes, lectures, weekend seminars, five-day Holistic and Training Camps, Wendy Volhard has taught more than 20,000 dog owners how to achieve a mutually rewarding relationship with their pets. Wendy gives seminars in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom on behavior, instructing, training, health and nutrition and its effects on behavior, and conducts an annual five-day Holistic Camp together with Kerry Brown, D.V.M. and Sue Ann Lesser, D.V.M., as well as two five-day Training Camps. Time permitting, Wendy does a limited number of private consultations.
Wendy Volhard is a true practitioner, who has bred, raised and trained Landseer Newfoundlands for over 25 years, as well as a Briard, a German Shepherd Dog, a Labrador Retriever, Standard Wirehaired Dachshunds and Yorkshire Terriers. Wendy shares her home in upstate New York with her husband of 35 years, six dogs and three cats. Together with her husband, Jack, Wendy has earned over 50 conformation, obedience and working titles with her dogs.
Wendy has developed the most widely used system for evaluating puppies for the right home and task, and a Personality Profile for dogs to help owners understand why their pets do what they do.
She is the co-author of four books including The Complete Idiots Guide to a Well-Trained Dog (Alpha Books, 1999), and co-producer of four video tapes. She is the recipient of four awards from the Dog Writers Association of America.
Wendy Volhard has served different dog organizations in a variety of capacities; is an honorary member of the United Kingdom Registry of Behaviour Consultants, a member of the Newfoundland Club of America, the Dachshund Club of America and other dog organizations, and a regular contributor to the AKC Gazette .
KERRY L. BROWN
Dr. Kerry Brown was graduated from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in 1973. He spent four years in a large and small animal practice before opening his own hospital, Village Veterinary Hospital, in 1977.
Dr. Brown s hospital has grown from a one-man practice to a facility with nine veterinarians, all with special interests in both large and small animals. It is one of the most highly regarded veterinary hospitals in central New York and offers clientele and patients the most up-to-date diagnostics and therapies in veterinary medicine in different fields.

Kerry L. Brown, D.V.M .
Dr. Brown has developed areas of expertise in surgery (both soft tissue injuries and orthopedics) and internal medicine, as well as in acupuncture, nutrition and reproduction. He is a certified acupuncturist, accredited by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.
Kerry Brown shares his home with his wife, Nickie, their two children, Eric and Alicia, and many family pets. He loves fishing, especially on Lake Ontario, for salmon and steelhead.
Kerry has a long-standing devotion of 22 years to the Lions Club of New York State and Bermuda, working with the visually and hearing impaired, drug and alcohol abuse programs, and self-esteem youth programs.
Because of the workload at his veterinary hospital, appointments with Dr. Brown (the only holistic veterinarian on staff) have to be made several months ahead of time.
Kerry and Wendy began working together on the clinical trials of the Natural Diet in 1974. Since then, they have joined forces to investigate and search for ways to improve the health of companion animals through the use of complementary therapies. Together they conduct the Holistic Camps, which bring together experts in various fields of complementary medicine to educate veterinarians, veterinary technicians, breeders and laymen alike, in raising, training and working with dogs.
