Introduction
At Cosmopolitan we’ve always been dedicated to making your sex life the best it can possibly be, and, for the first time in our 40-year history, we’ve packed all that erotic info and advice - plus much, much more - into just one book. Over the next 346 pages, you’ll find enough tips, tricks and tantalising techniques to make you and your partner sigh, moan and gasp with pleasure.
From awesome arousal techniques to Zen-sational zip tricks, this sexy guide is guaranteed to expand your horizontal horizons. Packed with more than a thousand new and exciting sex techniques, all arranged in handy alphabetical order, this is the definitive raunchy reference book.
But wait, we hear you pant: so much info, so little time. Want to know the best way to use this book? Whether you’re sexily single or cosily coupled up, you have two simple choices. First you could look up the specific area of your sex life that needs a little lust injection: the entries should be pretty logical. If you don’t know where to start, try going back to basics: even the how-they-work sections such as penis, vagina, arousal and masturbation are packed with naughty tips and tricks ranging from the basic to the bed-shaking. Most entries are cross-referenced, too, so, once you get started, this book will take you and your sex life in all sorts of new and exciting directions.
If you’re feeling adventurous, the second approach is just to open this book at random and see what catches your eye. If you dare, close your eyes and point to the page, then act out whatever sex tip your finger lands next to (there should be something exciting to do pretty much on every page). Alternatively, try reading out that passage to your lover: just hearing those sexy suggestions can be arousing in itself and - bonus - you’ll both be learning something at the same time.
And, if you fancy reading this book from cover to cover, do so: we’re sure you’ll find something new to try. Great sex is about fun and confidence both in and out of the bedroom (see outdoor sex if you’re bored with your boudoir). We’re not promising to magic a liberal sprinkling of sexual confidence out of thin air but, with a few flirty facts, saucy sex secrets and those oh-so-intimate details of other people’s sex lives, you’ll be well on your way to sex goddess (or god) status. And, although this book is written with a female reader in mind (it is from Cosmo after all), there’s tons of info and tips for him too (just leave it hanging around and we’re sure he’ll pick it up).
From sex therapists and agony aunts to lap dancers and call girls, we’ve consulted sex experts the world over (not to mention those real-life couples - you know who you are!). They’ve been happy to share their intimate secrets just so you get to have better sex. How generous!
Sex is fun, free and can be fabulous, and the more you know about it, the better it’ll become. Keep this book by your bed and let it become your bedroom bible. Sex is never perfect but, with knowledge at your fingertips, it can be pretty damn hot. Read on and enjoy.
ABANDON
See also: body confidence, quickies
Dictionary definition: Desert, give up altogether, freedom from inhibitions.
Cosmo definition: To go utterly wild in the bedroom, fling your inhibitions out of the window (along with your clothes, prejudices, restrictions and all forms of conventional, uptight behaviour) and live in the moment, focusing purely on your pleasure and his.
Sex goddess status is all about wild abandon, so what are you waiting for?
Wild Abandons How To Get It
1) Stop thinking about how you look and start focusing on how you feel. The more you focus on outward sensations, the less inhibited you’ll become.
2) Think about each of your senses in turn. Start with sight: drink in the bits of your man’s body you love with your eyes; watch where he places his hands on your body. Next, focus on touch - the feel of his fingertips, the sensation of his mouth on yours. Listen to his breathing and yours (it gets faster and stronger near orgasm). Smell his body and hair. Each sense will intensify the more you focus on it.
3) A couple of glasses of alcohol can help you relax but a whole bottle (or two) will dull your senses and make it harder for you (and him) to climax. we’re talking wild abandon here not abandon-all-sense-of-shame-after-three-too-many.
4) Focus on different parts of your body in turn: your nipples, the muscles in your calves and thighs if you’re on top, the arching of your back, the feeling of him inside you. It makes you aware of the whole of your body, not just your obvious erogenous zones.
5) Be spontaneous. Don’t keep sex just for Saturday nights in the bedroom. Ambush your man for a quickie as soon as he walks through the door, get naughty in the car on the way to your mother-in-law’s or play footsie under the table at your best friend’s wedding. Anything goes so long as you keep surprising each other.
‘For me going wild in the bedroom is an emotional thing: you don’t have to scream, you just have to be so involved that you forget the outside world.’ Rachel, 27, call centre manager
ABSTINENCE
Reasons to Abstain from Sex
1) The longer you hold out, the sexier it’ll be when you do get together again.
2) Introducing a ‘no-penetration’ rule for a week or a month makes you more creative with your foreplay techniques.
3) For men, the longer he goes between ejaculations, the bigger the bang will be.
4) For women, the longer you delay your climax during each sex session, the bigger the bang will be.
Reasons Not to Abstain from Sex
1) The more sex you’re getting, the more you’ll want, so actually having regular sex (even if it’s in the form of masturbation) naturally ups your libido levels.
2) Over time, if you really have no sexual contact, your sexual responses learn to shut down. Like an athlete, you need to keep your sex muscles (both the physical and the mental ones) constantly in training.
3) Sex is cheaper than a massage and relieves more stress.
4) It’ll be painful to continue reading this book if you intend to do nothing with all this information. Go and buy a nice cosy Aga saga instead.
Cosmo’s Chastity Commandments
If you’re reading this book, chances are you’re not really the abstaining type but you can have fun playing with the idea of a self-imposed sex ‘ban’. Here’s how:
Commandment 1: Thou shalt take a vow off chastity
Pretend you’re a vestal virgin who has taken a lifelong vow of chastity. It’s your partner’s job to awaken your sexuality and teach you the pleasures of the flesh.
Commandment 2: Thou shalt confess thy sins
Pretend to confess your sex sins to your partner. Start each statement with ‘Forgive me for I have sinned. Today I thought about …’ Then describe any sexy thoughts you’ve had. Use this technique to reveal your fantasies. Take turns being the confessor so you get to hear his sexy secrets, too.
Commandment 3: Thou shalt not touch one another
You can touch yourself and he can touch himself but you’re not allowed to touch each other. Try commanding your partner where and how to touch himself. It creates sizzling tension.
ADRENALINE
See also: arousal, hormones
Adrenaline is released when you’re frightened, excited or under stress - it’s also released when you’re highly aroused. It primes your body for fight-or-flight by heightening your awareness of your environment, increasing your heart rate and making your nerve endings tingle. Upping your adrenaline levels by putting yourself in a stressful or slightly scary situation can be just the libido lifter you need.
SEX FACT:
Couples who watch a horror movie are more likely to spend the night together than couples who watch any other type of film. Get The Ring on video now.
Up your adrenaline levels by …
Going to a theme park on your first date - the buzz you get from the scary rides will make you feel sexier.
Having sex in a semi-public place - the fear of getting caught causes adrenaline to course round your veins.
If you trust your partner, getting him to tie you up or blindfold you. The ‘fear’ of what he’ll do next is all part of the fun.
Taking up a challenging new activity together that makes you face your fears, such as rock climbing or abseiling. You’ll be so pumped up by the sense of achievement that your body will be crying out for some more intimate physical attention.
SEX FACT:
People who go through traumatic events such as getting stuck in a lift together often have sexual feelings towards each other because of the raised adrenaline le
