An introduction from the editor Roger Andrews.
It was seemingly no different to any other day of the week. Another beautiful Western Australian summer’s day beckoned and the sun was shining merrily away in a pure blue sky. And yet there was something profoundly different when I took a moment to peep through the shutters of our bedroom window. On the other side of the road, a large white truck (the GBT) with black letters on the side suddenly pulled up and parked on the kerb. The front doors opened as if by magic and a trio of fluoro uniformed tradies leapt out like paratroopers from a Blackhawk helicopter and started to assemble their tools and everything required for the day ahead. Not only was this team well presented and efficient, they appeared to have a coordinated, almost fully briefed military purpose in their work. Everyone knew their task, where to start and what was expected of them. As the morning wore on, the walls started to take shape on the markings carefully etched onto the concrete slab and our new neighbor’s house was starting to look good. I did not know at the time, but this was my first contact with ‘The Gorilla’ and his skilled team. The house walls went up to plate height and then the GBT and personnel disappeared as unexpectedly as they had arrived and that, I thought, was that. And it probably would have been but for meeting and striking up a friendship with the hard working project supervisor – Doolan, who was already aware that Barbara and I had authored books, and one day, on one of his inspection visits over the road, he let me know that John Karelis would be working on the house next door to us and that he had already mentioned us to ‘JK’ who was in the process of writing his own novel. His first foray into being a published author. Would I be interested in an introduction to The Gorilla himself to see if there could be some common ground? Of course the answer was ‘Yes’ and ‘The rest’, as a historian first noted in 1839, ‘is history’.
As the house next door took form, we put our hands up for some light editorial and book mentoring duties. That said, John always knew where he wanted to go and chose his own path. At his own behest, the book took on a slightly different shape to the initial draft and evolved into the manuscript you hold in your hands today. The Gorilla was, and always will be we’re sure, a man on a mission … an honourable Mission. John is one of the most passionate, determined and dedicated writers we have ever come across. This book is more than just black marks on white pieces of paper. It has a direction, purpose and soul of its own. At times, you will find prose of exceptional and profoundly moving poetic quality. At others, expect to be confronted and find your emotions shredded. Our role has been to guide with the lightest of touches, a novel that was already as well directed and as surely on its way as the GBT itself on a West Australian highway.
In closing this brief Introduction, it remains to leave you with a couple of little clues which we hope will let you navigate through the book, understand how to interact with it and feel at one with it. John’s cancer survival journey left him with severely impaired hearing … and as you will discover, those hearing difficulties played their own profound part in the turn of events covered in the story. The beginning is the end, but the ending is merely just the start. So, expect a rollercoaster of a read and enjoy the journey as much as we have!

Note from the author:
When I first began writing this novel it was meant solely as a journal for keepsake, but the more I thought about it the more I realized I could turn it into something extraordinary. Some lessons which everyone could benefit from. A good message inside a hairy tale.
I wish I could find a cure for the tinnitus ringing in my head, and pay off my debts, but more importantly find my soul mate. My best friend, or as I like to think of her, ‘The Prime Mate.’ My heroine.
I wish to be loved.

The Final Continuum.
They paused there, and he looked out to the Sydney CBD.
“How’s this for a story?” he yelled out waving the journal in the air. “Twelve years in purgatory!”
The skies rumbled and he looked up.
“Jackman, Hugh!” he called out. “Our gameplan is long overdue! ”
People walking their dogs turned and stared, continuing their stroll along the footpath.
He turned around facing Kirribilli House and he knew the Prime Minister could feel him. “You want my toll? You’re gonna hafta dive in to my soul! I shalt bring out The Gorilla if’t be true or not you want to roll!”
Thunder throbbed in the background as a shadow soared across the water, and he looked around. The Australian Federal Police car was still parked next to the GBT, they certainly weren’t laughing anymore.
Clouds were rolling in again getting darker, and walkers began to jog as winds started to whirl.
He was facing the whole of Sydney and the whole City could see him, The GBT and Mack as lightning struck to the east, illuminating the sky and The Gorilla shadowed across the water.
Mack howled into the wind, “ Awoo … ” and the lit candle wick sputtered in the ground.
He faced the Sydney Opera House and cried out, “Behold the shell shaped sails and blowing gails. Ghosts of the east allied with this wiz-like beast, thy giant blowhorn shalt sing to sayeth the least!”
A gust of wind passed through as the lights in the CBD twinkled and a loud crack like a whip came from his right while rain started to patter down from the heavens, and The Gorilla flashed inside him.
Picnickers ran away shrieking to their loved ones, “Let’s get out of here!” as he turned to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and yelled, “Look at that steel through arch, perfect for an otherworldly march. A masqueraded coat hanger, ready for the closing banger. The Gorilla from the west uniting the spirits of the rest, we willst be second best!”
The lights flickered from the buildings in front as lightning discharged again from the mountainous clouds beyond the City, and every dog was going crazy from the inside of vehicles as was the flame in the Earth while Gorilla electrified throughout.
Everyone had disappeared and he was stretching his arms out into the wind and opening his chest in The Warrior pose; energies intensified as Mack continued to howl, “ Wooo... ”
The skies were black with the City lights only visible; it was breathtaking and the fresh aroma was out of this world. His heart beat as one with the celestial sphere above as the sky roared loudly, and he voiced,
