FOREWARD

“I’m on a Yoga 30-Day Challenge!” I remember the first time I heard someone say that to me. I thought, “Ewww! Why?” My second thought was, “No way will I ever be able to do that.”

The very idea of doing a 30-day challenge is exciting and daunting. How does one go about committing to oneself each day (for 30 days!!) to practice? How does one avoid “life” getting in the way? How does one plan?

Picking the time is actually easy. Once we’ve committed we then realize: how do we keep ourselves motivated? Support from family, friends and fellow yogis is a plus. However at the end of the day the responsibility end with you. After all if I can not keep a commitment to myself, how can I expect to keep commitments to others.

Writing or journaling helps get me through a 30-day challenge. Day 1, always filled with promise and new hope. By day 15-16-17, I wanted to break that promise supported by the original thought, “Ewww! Why?” Day 30, I am filled with pride and an incredible sense of accomplishment!! I am acknowledged by my supporters. Then it all fades over night. The next day, I am just a regular person again. Dale introduced me to the 31 st day as additional proof that I can give more than 100 percent to myself. Basically we are conditioned around 30 day challenges, followed by a some immediate celebration, and then let down. The extra day really cements the meaning and purpose of the challenge. It is truly a mental success anchor to have in life.

Dale has created an incredible tool to accompany you on the journey. That’s where your Life on the Yoga Mat: A 30 + 1 Day Personal Yoga Journal comes in. It is your companion, your guide, your motivator, shoulder you cry on, and a friend to share a laugh. If you are honest and you really listen, it will tell you what you need to hear. Use it to write down the helpful asana (posture) tips you receive during your session. Write down your reasons for doing this challenge. Maybe you’re rehabilitating an old injury…write it down. I feel differently on day 18 verses day 4… write it down. Your well-being is feeling overhauled… write it down. You have lost weight…write it down. Your diet is changing… write it down. The possibilities are endless using Life on the Yoga Mat: A 30 + 1 Day Personal Yoga Journal . It is also your gift to yourself for completing and accomplishing such an amazing practice challenge.

When you have completed your Life on the Yoga Mat: A 30 + 1 Day Personal Yoga Journal you’ll want to do another one! You’ll realize it’s now all mind over matter: if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. What did you learn about yourself? How have you changed? Review it. Inspire yourself.

You will feel something very magical on the 31 st day.

Enjoy your journey.

Namaste

INTRODUCTION

My life has been filled with many great adventures and challenges. I have found the most grounding, healthy challenges involve my yoga practice. My yoga practice is my own personal dedicated time to take care of my mind, body, and soul.

I have done many 30-day yoga challenges. I have even done over 180 consecutive days of my yoga practice.

I created the Life on the Yoga Mat: A 30 + 1 Day Personal Yoga Journal as a complement or companion to your yoga practice and challenge. I believe that one’s yoga practice is a unique and individual experience. However sometimes it helps to have a companion, a little help, and some place to put those extra thoughts, ideas and results. Life on the Yoga Mat: A 30 + 1 Day Personal Yoga Journal is designed as a place to document your journey, reflect deeper on the experience, and acknowledge the success of completing such a challenge.

The Life on the Yoga Mat: A 30 + 1 Day Personal Yoga Journal is independent of the type or style of yoga practice. It can be used with any yoga.

30 + 1 Day Journey Types

You will notice that this is a 30 + 1 day, or a total of 31 days. The plus one day is simply an anchor or symbol to yourself that you are capable of giving more than one hundred percent towards your goals. It is like frosting on the cake.

30 +1 Day Challenge: This is for those who can practice for 31 consecutive days.

30 + 1 Any Day Any Session: This is doing practice of 31 sessions over a period of time that you decided. This is idea for someone whose practice is irregular. Maybe you can only practice 3 or 5 days a week. Maybe life has interrupted your life as it often does. However, you want to achieve 31 days of practice.

Get Ready:

Life on the Yoga Mat: A 30 + 1 Day Personal Yoga Journal is really about your experience. So lets get started.

First things first – REMOVE THE EXCUSES
• Schedule consistent time. Write it on your calendar or planner.
• Choose a consistent location for your practice.
• Be flexible to handle any changes
• Have your practice clothes ready in advance.
• Tell others you are doing this and need your support.
• Consult with you doctor or medical advisor before start with such a challenge.
• Plan healthy diet menus to feed your mind, body, and spirit.
• Show up! Sometimes that is 50%-90% percent of your internal battle.

Let the writing journey begin:

The purpose and design of Life on the Yoga Mat: A 30 + 1 Day Personal Yoga Journal is to accompany you through thirty-one days of your yoga practice challenge. Think of it like a travel journal. This could be 31 consecutive days or any regular routine 31 days of yoga. Treat this as a gift to yourself. Time that is yours (also known as you time). The pages on the journal are blank intentionally for your writing. Any space is fair writing and creative expression space. This will allow for more flexible thinking with no judgments. Enjoy your creative space. Make this challenge as purposeful and fun as possible.

The goal is to write about the impact of your yoga practice and your relationship with yourself as you proceed through this 31days of yoga journey challenge.

You should set aside at least 15 minutes per day to write about your yoga practice for that day. I highly recommend writing right after your yoga session, or later in the day as a reflection on the practice’s impact on your day.
