Description

The Bermuda Triangle, The Devils Triangle Call it what you will but this area off the coast of the southeastern United States has stirred peoples imaginations for hundreds of years You wont find it on any official maps, which hasn't actually stopped would be cartographers from adding it in anyway. As far as the U S Board of Geographic Names is concerned, it doesn't even exist. They do not recognize it nor do they admit to maintaining any official file on it. However, as fans of the unexplained will insist, the Bermuda Triangle is very real It is so named because of its proximity to the island of Bermuda, which forms one of its apexes. The others are roughly located in Florida and Puerto Rico, and together they cover an area of approximately 500,000 square miles That's a lot of area for craft to get lost in.

The Mystery ofthe Bermuda Triangle

By:Damien Rollins
About The Author

DamienRollins has worked security for a number of hotels throughout the world andsomehow managed to land himself a job in the Bahamas (lucky bastard). He isnow, and has always been, an avid sun worshipper. Much to the embarrassment ofhis family, he thinks nothing of striping down to his skivvies and parading hisfifty year old body on a beach full of twenty-something's. Not many things havebeen known to ruffle Damian’s feathers in the past, except when people startedtalking about the Bermuda Triangle.

Damienhas been out to sea in the Bermuda Triangle, quite a few times actually. Heloves to fish and claims there’s nothing quite as relaxing as kicking back inthe middle of the ocean with nothing to do but wait for the next bite. He andhis trio of close friends even thought about entering a tournament in Bermudaat one time, but decided against it since none of them are very good. Damiensays that the strangest things he’s ever encountered in the Bermuda Triangleare the tourists, especially the newcomers who seem to have every bit of loreat their fingertips, despite never having visited before.

That’swhy he started looking into the stories in the first place. He got tired ofhearing them and decided to do something about it. He reasoned that the bestway to shut people up was to show them how wrong they were. It’s never workedbefore but hey, there’s always a first time. But something happened that Damienhadn’t been expecting. He anticipated laughter, some of it raucous, but thestories started drawing him in. The more he read, the more he began to thinkthat there might be something to a few of them after all.
Damienstill doesn’t believe in alien abductions and what he terms ‘other far out BS’,but he’s willing to admit that some of the cases are pretty strange. He’s happyto let others ferret out the mystery, but he has been keeping an extra eye onhis electronic equipment when he goes out fishing lately. And he’s a lot moretolerant of newbies and their stories, even providing additional details onoccasion. He’s finally decided to share some of his burgeoning expertise withthe rest of us, if only to get away from the constant urgings of his eldest son .

Introduction

The Bermuda Triangle. The Devil’s Triangle. Call it what youwill but this area off the coast of the southeastern United States has stirredpeoples’ imaginations for hundreds of years. You won’t find it on any officialmaps, which hasn’t actually stopped would-be cartographers from adding it inanyway. As far as the U. S. Board of Geographic Names is concerned, it doesn’t evenexist. They do not recognize it nor do they admit to maintaining any officialfile on it. However, as fans of the unexplained will insist, the BermudaTriangle is very real.
It is so named because of its proximity to the island ofBermuda, which forms one of its apexes. The others are roughly located inFlorida and Puerto Rico, and together they cover an area of approximately500,000 square miles. That’s a lot of area for craft to get lost in.

The ‘boundaries’ of the Bermuda Triangle

Bermuda is also behind the area’s nickname of The Devil’sTriangle since it was at one point known as the ‘Isle of Devils’. The demonicentities in this case were, and continue to be, the numerous reefs that dot theshores of Bermuda. These treacherous coral beds have claimed numerous ships, and lives, as evidenced by the hundreds of shipwrecks that continue to drawvisitors to this day.

Given the sheer size of the area, it makes no sense thatships and aircraft would go out of their way to avoid it and indeed they don’t.
