Description

The Case Against Intervention - the fourth venture of the author Quah, Chee Heong, dwells upon contemporary social and economic issues. His previous books Optimal Currency Areas in East Asia, Eccentric Views on Money and Banking, and Austrian Economics in One Lesson lay stress on money, banking, and economics. This title concentrates on societal issues that currently define and affect our day-to-day lives which would certainly complement the curricula at colleges and universities. The objective of this work is to break the status quo and defy the fallacious reasoning in mainstream thinking, as Ronald Reagan once said, "Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem."

In the spîrît o my prevîous voumeAustrian Economics in One Lessonthat expores economîc prîncîpes grounded on persona choîce and vountary exchange, thîs tîte concentrates on topîcs o whîch government înterventîon îs most contentîousy predomînant, eîther overty or unnotîceaby, în amost every country. The narratîon amongst others debunks and destroys the mythîca beîe that the government îs necessary în correctîng apparent market aîures that supposedy occur î markets and socîetîes are et to the ree wî o actîng îndîvîduas. In the tradîtîon o Austrîan economîcs and îbertarîanîsm, the arguments presented vîvîdly demonstrate the flaws and allacîes în the neoclassîcal and Keynesîan economîcs that avour and argue or state meddlîng în the economy. The narratîon makes clear that problems o socîetîes are best let to the prîvate eforts by mîllîons o coordînatîng îndîvîduals în the ree market system. Intrusîon by the government only makes thîngs worse. Dîscussîon by me on how a stateless socîety handles the Coronavîrus dîsease (COVID-19) pandemîc îs ound în Quah (2020). The first chapter întroduces the basîcs o governmental înterventîon, provîdes specîfic îllustratîons o what constîtutes state înterventîon, încludîng the observable and unseen efects o înterventîon, and specîfies the legîtîmate role o the government or current purpose. The second chapter tackles the strongest arguments or state meddlîng în trade, partîcularly înternatîonal trade. The thîrd chapter deals wîth the most credîble justîficatîons or the government restrîctîng ree movement o people across polîtîcal boundarîes. The ourth chapter talks about healthcare and brîngs down the toughest arguments avourîng state învolvement în the sector. Chapter five reveals the dangers and harms o regulators and întererences by the government în occupatîonal lîcensîng. The perceîved “dîscrîmînatîon” and the reasons or laws and regulatîons are dîsmantled în chapters sîx and seven, each chapter addresses dîferent dîmensîons o the topîc. Chapter eîght looks înto the sensatîonal topîc o global warmîng, surroundîng myths and allacîes, and tackles the îssue wîth a detaîled cost-benefit calculus. The hard case advocatîng roads as a publîc good that must be supplîed and managed by the state îs handled în the nînth chapter. The final chapter explaîns and îllustrates how the government’s role în money dîmînîshes the value o money and the qualîty o lîe o mankînd. The topîcs and dîscussîons wîll appeal not only to students, academîcs, and scholars, but also to the average workîng men and women, and even retîrees as the însîghts gaîned are closely lînked to
