Description

The progressive left believe that the capitalists are the root cause for the inability to have an equal distribution of wealth! They refuse to debate on the facts that capitalism has had the most impact on changing poverty and servitude into freedom and the best living conditions in the world.

As we began the first chapters we profiled the small to medium businesses that represent approximately sixty percent of all employees in the United States! So, who are the so called rich? The entrepreneur who has risked everything, driving themselves to inhuman heights, lived with anxieties that few have experienced and who have a heart for every single person that they employ. Yes, that is who the rich are; that is who the left is targeting along with anyone that has assets more than their chosen standard amount.

After that same entrepreneur has suffered and endured all of those agonies of ownership, he is asked to forfeit to those that have endured none of those pains. The last question you must ask the progressive left…take away the incentive of success, give away those earned assets to the underserving and what do you think will happen to our economy, our stability as a nation and our ability to drag the under privileged up to the privileged?

The people of this country are the biggest “givers” in the world. Across this country every catastrophe is followed by massive giving. Our Elmbrook Church has a world-wide mission with more than seventy-two missionaries in the field with a budget of two and half million dollars. This is happening all over the country, church after church and charity after charity. Elmbrook church had a targeted forty thousand dollars for a Ukrainian relief fund and received over one hundred and thirty thousand dollars! Ask yourself where did that giving come from? Who were the givers? Yes, not just the entrepreneur, but all the employee/partners that are instrumental in the business success! Remember the conservative’s core beliefs…they desire to give to those that cannot but refuse to give to those that can but… will not!

To:
All of the entrepreneurs I have worked with and learned from over the last sixty years! I have been so blessed to have had great mentors, friends, and family who have supported and encouraged me, not only in writing this book, but for the many times on the journey when our dreams seemed to have ended.
To my wife, Marsha, who read, corrected, and gave opinions and ideas on every line in every chapter. To Fred Anderson, Dr. Brian Stark, and Tom Belong for their review and encouragement to finish the book after they had viewed the objectives and theme.
And especially to this great and awesome Jesus Christ, who one day touched me and now…I am no longer the same!

F OREWORD
This is our third book, and the objective of all three have been the same. As you read the pages that follow, our intent is to pass on ideas, values, and beliefs to those who have the interest to learn and to those who want to grow as a person. So, to you who brave these pages, we hope you will find one word, sentence, or chapter that will enhance your life here and beyond.
The substance of the writing is born out of sixty years of life working with people in athletics, business, and non-profits as a coach, manager, president, consultant, and entrepreneur. The journey has been like most of us, a drill in how to survive and thrive on the blows, terrible decisions, and bad luck that befall us on this journey. Many times, fear and survival were the propellant to the next opportunity versus passion and intelligence! Regardless, each of life’s setbacks resulted in a unique experience filled with new challenges and another chapter in our knowledge library.
The result of all of these years found itself on the pages that follow as real, pragmatic, and truthful versus an academic pursuit in ideology and self-serving philosophies. As you walk through the pages, you may find yourself agreeing or disagreeing; however, peer deeply into the facts that support each hypothesis and agree or disagree with your facts rather than unsupported emotion or long-held opinions.
And lastly, the effort extended in putting on paper the real-life experiences of hundreds of men and women working in a free and capitalistic country is so critical to the unfiltered rhetoric of the uninformed progressive left. Our neighbor, Tom, who has worked in countries all over the world, made an interesting statement about people in all socioeconomic levels. "Most people are very happy and productive regardless of their place or country." Take away the curse of control and unshackle humankind to live in a sphere of freedom and with limited assets, and they will be productive, happy, and successful within their environment.
My hope is that you will enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it!
CHAPTER ONE
W HO A RE T HESE P EOPLE
Far progressive left liberals, the media, socialists, elite intellectuals, college professors, and some of our misguided young preach that capitalism is represented by greedy white owners who are non-caring, users of people, racist, and who become rich on the backs of the poor employees. Thus, we need to change that profile from capitalism to socialism. In this book we are going to dispel that premise with facts, personal experience, and truth. If you are in one of the above categories and if you are capable of learning the truth, this will be a great study for you. If you are not in the above categories but need the facts that lead to the truth to discuss and debate intelligently, this will represent a significant initiator of that process.
We will discuss in depth the experiences I have had over the last sixty years of working in, for, and with more than 130 companies. I’m writing about my personal experience not for egotism, but to lend real, pragmatic life involvement in the small business world. I have seen the stories that we will tell and explore. I have been intimately involved and lived with the owners of companies that have existed through some of the most harrowing and stressful journeys in attempting to not only be successful, but sometimes just to survive through to the next month or next year.
Some of the real truth questions you can ask one who is prophesying about the business condition are as follows: Where did you learn your facts? Where did you get that story? Have you ever worked in the entrepreneurial world? Have you ever been a leader or an owner of a for-profit company? Have you been in more than one company? While I have been an employee of two publicly traded companies, I have focused the substance of this book on small businesses from $1 million to $100 million that represent more than 65 percent of the US GDP and more than 60 percent of all employment. The statistics seem to vary depending on what source is used, but it is safe to conclude that the above information is well within reasonable boundaries.
The following are some of those sources and statistics. How much of US GDP comes from small businesses :
There are more than twenty-seven million small businesses in this country, and they generate about 50 percent of our gross domestic product (GDP) (Office of Advocacy). The millions of individuals who have started businesses in the United States have shaped the business world as we know it today. What percentage of the US population owns a small business?
Over 99 percent of America’s 28.7 million firms are small businesses. (Small Business Administration) What are the number of employees of small businesses?
In the chart below, it indicates that 61 million employees are in these same small businesses. (SBA)

While we are focused on small and mid-size businesses, large, privately owned companies have the very same guiding principles and beliefs!
There is an incredibly sound hypothesis that there is harmony between Entrepreneurship and Christianity . The common denominator for both entities is one word… people! When we use the words company or church , we are saying the same thing…people make business and people are the church! In subsequent charters this premise will be explored in depth.
Oh dear, he is going to write about capitalism and Christianity, the two most out-of-favor entities in the current political, educational, and intellectual communities. One of the most historically vibrant and truthful messages is that America was founded on these two entities. America has grown great, not only as the most powerful country in the world, but the most Jesus Christ-loving country in the world. Is there a connection between the two? Has the United States been successful because of those same belief systems? I would argue that the answer is yes, and unless we return to that premise, the future for our children and the children to come will be far less exciting. And yes, we will profile the reason for those past successes and how it is still a thriving theme in countless businesses and in the hearts and minds of so many in this country.
So far, if you have gotten to this point, you may be saying…it appears that he is telling me that all small and mid-size businesses have owners who are saints and abide by a Christian ethic, are not greedy, are not people users, hypocritical, and/or dictatorial.
The answer, of course…this is not true; those leaders and owners are real, and we will spend some time talking about them. Just as 10 percent of the employees are rotten eggs, the same formula applies to business leaders and owners. However, those persons listed in the first paragraph concentrate on the 10 percent and have little knowledge or desire to talk about the 90 percent. Bad is exciting and good is boring! We will concentrate on the 90 percent who are good and, if not in an exciting mode, at least in an entertaining , enjoyable and enlightening fashion!
Not only is the progressive left attempting to drive a wedge between the American people and capitalism, but they have a bigger vision. They desire to control every aspect of our American lives.
We will spend considerable time submitting facts, stories, a little humor, and numerous professionals and sch
