The information contained in this book is based upon the research and personal and professional experiences of the author. It is not intended as a substitute for consulting with your physician or other health-care provider. Any attempt to diagnose and treat an illness should be done under the direction of a health-care professional.
If you are on medication for diabetes or heart disease, and are going low-carb for the first time, then an adjustment in medication may be needed. So it is important to discuss these changes in diet with your physician. If you are pregnant, nursing, or engaging in a competitive sport competition, this is not the best time to begin a very low-carb diet. If you have been low-carb before becoming pregnant or nursing or engaging in competition, then your body will already be adapted.
The publisher does not advocate the use of any particular health-care protocol but believes the information in this book should be available to the public. The publisher and author are not responsible for any adverse effects or consequences resulting from the use of the suggestions, preparations, or procedures discussed in this book. Should the reader have any questions concerning the appropriateness of any procedures or preparation mentioned, the author and the publisher strongly suggest consulting a professional health-care advisor.

Paleo for Candida Basics Review
T his cookbook serves as a companion to Healing Chronic Candida: A Holistic, Natural, and Comprehensive Approac h, my first book in this series. In Healing Chronic Candida , we learned that diet is the most critical element of the healing journey. It is the foundation on which everything else is built and will greatly influence each aspect of recovery. Without these changes in diet, you aren t likely to see significant or long-term improvements, regardless of what other steps are taken. Therefore, having an abundance of tasty recipes and meal plans at your fingertips is essential to support you in this process.
To review, it is vital to eat a diet that cuts off the food source for candida and other pathogenic microbes, and their ability to morph into hyphal form and construct biofilms. We also want to choose foods that promote the right pH level, as a gut that is too alkaline encourages overgrowth and morphogenesis of candida, as well as other pathogens; and a body that is too acidic can lead to a wide array of problems as well like osteoporosis, kidney disease, and more. Our diet needs to be rich in foods that will replenish nutrients that may be deficient, support the immune system, adrenal glands, and gut health, enhance neurotransmitter production and function, restore balance to brain chemistry and the endocrine system, reduce sympathetic nervous system activity, and be free of substances that impair immunity, disrupt brain chemistry and endocrine function, inhibit the parasympathetic nervous system, degrade the integrity of the gut, and deplete the adrenal glands and nutrient levels.
When we eat the proper diet, we inhibit candida s ability to grow, morph, communicate, form biofilms, and spread to other areas of the body, eliminate cravings for sugar and carbs, support gut health, reduce sympathetic dominance and enhance our body s ability to fight off candida and other microbes, all of which leads to a lower level of overgrowth, a reduction in symptoms and a more positive response to treatment. Not only that, you ll also provide yourself with protection from other more serious conditions like depression, anxiety disorders and other mental health issues, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer s and much more, which are all linked directly to the consumption of sugar and carbs.
We also learned that the diet that helps us achieve these goals most successfully is a low-carb version of the paleo diet, which in this case, we will call Paleo for Candida Diet, because the paleo diet is the diet that all human beings are genetically designed to eat. Foods that promote candida overgrowth or other pathogenic microbes, impair immunity, degrade the gut, deplete nutrients, create an imbalance in pH, and foster addiction to sugar and carbs are just naturally absent in a low-carb paleo diet. As suggested in Healing Chronic Candida , carb intake for the day should not be more than 60 to 70 grams of carbs per day at most or candida will proliferate and cravings for sugar and carbs will be abundant, but many people find they do best below 50 grams of carbs per day. Cravings for sugar and carbs are managed best by staying under 50 grams of carbs per day. People who have SIBO in addition to candida must be under 50 grams per day and may be down around 25 or lower. This means the diet is going to consist primarily of animal protein and fat. If you are just beginning to go low-carb, and are very active, have a physically demanding job, pregnant or nursing or a competitive athlete, then you may need to be on the higher end of this spectrum until your body gets better at running on fat for energy.
All meal plans and main course recipes in this cookbook will not exceed the 60 to 70 grams of carbs per day. Staying in the 60 to 70 grams of carbs per day typically allows for one smal
