INTRODUCTION
I have always found Mahatma Gandhi’s accomplishments fascinating, and felt compelled to read some of his writings. After doing so I felt obligated to share some of his words with people who have never heard of Mahatma Ghandi, never read his writings or are simply looking for motivation and ideas to improve their lives.

Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in the state of Gujarat, in the country of India. He studied law in London and was admitted to the British bar, but chose to return to India. Unable to establish a feasible law practice in India, he ended up in South Africa, where he spent 20 years. In South Africa he started his passive resistance struggle for Indian rights and in 1914 the government of South Africa made several concessions to his demands.

Feeling his work in South Africa was done, he returned to India and became involved in a long drawn out and complex struggle for India’s independence from British rule. This was eventually achieved in 1947. A year later in 1948, Gandhi was assassinated by one of his countrymen.

His teachings went on to inspire people in their day to day lives as well as several nonviolent movements around the world. Amongst them the civil rights movements under Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.

We can follow in his footsteps by learning from him and becoming an agent of change in whatever capacity we can. Changing ourselves, refocusing our family, improving our neighbourhoods, rebuilding our city or even getting our countries back on track. By doing so, we make our piece of the world a better place.

I hope you benefit from 101 Selected Sayings of Mahatma Gandhi as much as I have in putting it together.

The moment the slave resolves that he will no longer be a slave, his fetters fall. He frees himself and shows the way to others. Freedom and slavery are mental states.
Mahatma Gandhi
4
A 'No' uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a 'Yes' merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble.
Mahatma Gandhi
5
I call him religious who understands the suffering of others.
Mahatma Gandhi
6
Truth resides in every human heart, and one has to search for it there, and to be guided by truth as one sees it. But no one has a right to coerce others to act according to his own view of truth.
