Description

A step-by-step guide to developing one’s innate mediumship abilities illustrated by stories of the author’s own experiences learning to communicate with her deceased father.
For far too long, we’ve been told that those who communicate with the deceased are ‘gifted’ with a special ability - you either have it, or you don’t. Rory Walkom breaks through this outdated belief by telling the story of how she learned to connect with her father after his passing, and teaching you how to develop this gift for yourself.
11 Lessons From My Dead Dad gives you a step-by-step process for opening up lines of communication with your passed loved ones. You’ll see for yourself that the dead are not gone, and that the ability to communicate with them has always been within you.
Through the 11 Lessons, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of death, the afterlife, and life itself. You’ll see what the world of mediumship really looks like, and as you open up your own innate intuitive abilities, you’ll discover the healing that comes with living a life guided by spirit.
This is not just the story of how Rory became a medium, but of how you become one, too. Get ready to feel the presence of your loved ones in spirit, see the signs that they’re still around, and experience a connection continued in ways you never believed possible!

For Dad, who taught me everything I know in life, and in death.
Introduction
This is the story of how I became a medium, but this isn’t just my story. This is the story of how you become a medium, too. This is the story of how we can all learn to communicate with our passed loved ones.
I’d never, ever thought of myself as a medium before my dad died, and I would have never expected all that unfolded after his death, either. The next few years brought ghostly bathroom apparitions in the dead of night, messages from the other side of this life, and the end of my ‘dream’ career. I never saw any of it coming. Then again, I didn’t expect my dad to die two months before my wedding day. But here we are.
Now, I teach others to communicate for and with the deceased. In an industry where many declare that you must be born ‘gifted’ to do it, I stand defiantly in the opposite corner: spirit communication can be learned! I learned it, and if I can learn how to speak with the dead, anyone can.
I’m often asked how I got into mediumship as a career, with an expectation that I knew I’d be doing this since I was a young child. The truth is, I’m a medium because my dad died. Because suddenly, I could no longer pick up the phone and ask for his advice. Suddenly, this daddy’s girl was left without her wisest advisor, steadiest supporter, and loudest cheerleader. I didn’t know how to live in a world without him. Thankfully, I didn’t have to.
Dad, although deceased, made it clear he hadn’t just disappeared. With his help, some time, and more motivation than I’d ever had before, I learned how to communicate with him. I could even feel his presence around me. I learned that he could hear me when I talked to him, and how to understand the messages he was sending. Once again, I could call on his sage advice and feel his support anytime I needed it. Although my dad was dead, he wasn’t gone.
Nothing has been more healing than knowing this. Knowing that we truly do live on after this life, that Dad is still with me through every step I take, and that I can always talk with him. I want everyone to feel this healing. While a mediumship reading can certainly provide this, there’s nothing quite like seeing it for yourself: experiencing your loved one’s presence again, knowing they’re with you, and feeling their loving guidance.
If you’re reading this, doubting your ability to communicate with your own passed loved ones, know that I’m standing strongly in your corner. I know you can do it. I believe in you and your ability to learn these skills.
My life fell apart after my dad’s death, but it was completely rebuilt and transformed once I learned to communicate with him again. I didn’t think it was possible, nor that I was capable of it. Regardless of what you may have been taught, connecting with spirit is innate and natural for all of us, and the healing that will come from this communication will change your life for the better, too.

About This Book
There are a few terms I will repeat throughout this book. While these are the terms I prefer to use, I urge you to continue using whatever words resonate best for you.
For example, I often use the phrase ‘spirit world’ to describe heaven, the afterlife, the non-physical world, etc. If the term heaven, or any other term, resonates with you more, please use that instead as you read through. I will also use Source Energy or Creator to refer to what most people call God. Again, if God, Creator, Divine Being, etc. feels more appropriate, feel free to substitute it in your mind. I will also use the terms passed loved ones, spirits, and souls interchangeably.
Throughout each chapter, I will share a story from my journey to mediumship. I’ll also teach the eleven pivotal lessons I had to learn in order to understand death, life and how to communicate with the other side.
At the end of each chapter, there is a Connection Exercise to help you open up your intuitive senses and establish lines of communication with your loved ones in spirit, step-by-step. No matter what doubts you have, I urge you to keep an open mind throughout this process. Whether or not you believe you can do it, be open to the idea that you may be able to. Be willing to give each of these exercises a try, because this willingness is the key to opening the door to spirit communication.
I certainly didn’t believe I could do any of this when my dad died, but with time, I saw proof that I could again and again. I want you to trust that if you enter this process with an open mind, an open heart, and an honest effort to open up communications on your end, you will see proof for yourself. You, too, will feel the presence of those you thought were gone, communicate with them once again, and feel the impact they still have on your life. I’m so excited for you to see this for yourself!
So to begin the process of opening up communication, let’s start with a quick Connection Exercise.
Introductory Connection Exercise
Intention is a very important tool for developing your intuition and the ability to communicate with those in the spirit world. Even if you aren’t positive you are capable of this yet, setting an intention to do so will move you toward this goal.
Select a passed loved one to connect with.
While you can use the exercises in this book to connect and communicate with any passed loved one, I highly suggest starting with just one person you had a close connection with in life. This might be your dad like it was for me, or perhaps your mom, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, child, or friend. It doesn’t matter how you are connected; what matters is that you w ant to communicate with them.
Whoever you choose, use this person for every exercise throughout this book. Then, once you get the hang of things, you can always go back and repeat the exercises with another spirit. No matter who you choose, know that they want to communicate with you just as much as you want to communicate with them.
Set an intention to open up communication.
Now that you’ve decided who you want to connect with first, let’s set an intention to begin the process. Again, you don’t need to fully trust that this will work yet. Just be open to the idea that it could, and then repeat this intention aloud or in your head:
“ I intend to open up communication with _____[your selected passed loved one]_____.
I ask that this communication be healing and helpful, for the highest and best good of myself and _____[your selected passed loved one]_____.
I ask that as I open myself up to communicating with you, I will begin to recognize all that you are communicating back to me - and that you are not really gone.
Thank you.”
Once you’ve completed this intention setting exercise, you’re ready to continue. With each exercise yet to come, keep your mind as open as possible: open to the idea that this could work, open to finding out how it works, and open to letting your passed loved ones prove it to you.
And one last quick reminder: feel free to take your time reading this book and completing the exercises. You may want to finish the entire book first before coming back to work through each exercise at your own pace. Grieving isn’t easy for anyone, so if your grief ever feels too heavy to concentrate on the exercises, come back to them whenever it gets a little lighter. Be gentle with yourself throughout this process, and the transformation and healing will come.
