Description

On our journey to our God-ordained destiny, we often get tempted to drift away from our designated paths and then take highways and byways that we were not supposed to take. We then end up lost, hurt, disappointed, moving around in circles and getting further away from our destiny. When you feel lost and far away from your destiny or Creator, check your ways and the paths you have followed. No matter how far you have travelled, make a U-turn, your Creator is waiting expectantly with open arms to welcome you back. He will never question where you come from. He will never judge what you have done. Instead, He will offer you a resting place for your troubled and broken soul. All that He wants is for you to say "God, here are my broken pieces. Please help me to put them together again, for You are the One Who created me and therefore know which piece belongs where, and You also know where other pieces have fallen."

No matter where you are
No matter what happened to you
No matter when it happened
No matter how far you have travelled,
"Come and let us return to the Lord, for He has torn (that which is evil in and around us) so that He may heal us: He has stricken (the devil that leads us astray) so that He may bind us up." Hosea 6:1

“After all, the Kingdom of God is not a matter of (getting the) food and drink, but instead it is the righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Rom14:17

On the morning of 1 January 2010, New Year’s Day, I was alone at home. I did not feel like going out to join the festivities of ushering in the New Year. My boys were out with their friends and I just wanted to be all by myself. As I was trying to write down my New Year’s resolutions, I heard the DJ on the radio say that this year is 20-Turn, a turning point for our country, South Africa. A country that was tarnished by racial prejudice, was now its turn to showcase its diversity, abilities, and potential to the whole world. It was our country’s turn to prove to the whole world that it could deliver world-class facilities and hospitality for the Soccer World Cup Tournament. It was time for South Africa to rid itself of the negative effects caused by the apartheid system and take on a new identity as a world-class country.
The DJ’s comments knocked the air out of my already flat tyres, and my car came to a screeching halt. All of a sudden I felt a sadness come over me and my inner self moan over me. I felt as though the DJ was referring not only to our country, but to me and my life, urging me to rid myself of my old persona which was overwhelmed by challenges, wrong decisions, and disappointments, and take on a new identity. I looked at my life at that point in time and the picture that I saw was not so good. Poor decisions and choices had landed me on a path full of thorns which were now piercing through my flesh. A little voice inside of me asked me if I were satisfied with who I have become, where I was, what I was doing, and where my life was going, and tears welled in my eyes because I felt like I was spinning on a hamster wheel and never making any progress . I felt it in my heart and soul that I was created for more and my life could be much better than I was demonstrating emotionally, spiritually, financially, vocationally and otherwise.
So, I decided right then to inquire from my Creator what His purpose was when He created me. I confessed that some of the choices and decisions I made in the past brought me nothing but pain, strife, worry and lack in all areas of my life. I cried out to Him and I told Him that I felt like I was lost and that He was too far away from me. His answer was in Matthew 11:28–30:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is wholesome and My burden is light and easy to be borne”.
My resolution then was to make a U-turn to my inner self where my Creator dwells, for I was the one who moved away from Him and His word.
For a long time, I put myself in situations which were unfulfilling and actually beneath me and my potential. I did not affirm myself enough and that affected my opinion of myself. I settled for less and did not challenge myself enough or tap into the potential and power which God had placed inside of me. I invested in unhealthy relationships and poor career and business choices, and I found myself always having to start over again. Like the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well in John 4:7-26, I kept drinking regular water which did not quench my thirst. I did not know that there is a place inside of me which flows with rivers of living water, a place that really knows who I am and how valuable I am. This behavior of mediocrity used to bother my younger brother, Teboho, who looked up to me and felt it in his heart that I could do better than what I was settling for vocationally, socially, and otherwise. I used to even avoid him sometimes because when we met he only had three words for me -“Hai wena maar!” My younger brother was simply echoing the words of Solomon in Proverbs 1:22; “How long, O simple one, will you love being simple.”
Genesis 8:22 states, “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest shall not cease.” The law of cause and effect means that there are consequences for every action, either good or bad. What we put in is what we will get out. What we sow, we will definitely reap! It is therefore not only good but also Biblical to be cautious about how we invest our time, effort, and resources because vanity leads to poverty, lack, pain, and sorrow in every area of our lives. We must always inquire of our Creator and ask Him to endorse everything that we do because whatever is not endorsed by God is doomed to fail.
The message in Hebrews 8:10 states, “God will imprint His laws upon our minds and upon our innermost thoughts and understanding and engrave them upon our hearts.” If we make God the center of our lives, He will help us to write new resolutions that are in line with His purpose for us, and then He will give us the wisdom, understanding, and strength to stick to our resolutions.
One thing I realized is that God hears our cry for help and He becomes concerned, just like He became concerned when the Israelites cried out to Him when they were in the wilderness. God also became concerned when He saw Mary at Jesus’ tomb, weeping. God’s angels asked Mary why she was weeping, and her answer was “Because they have taken away my Lord and I don’t know where they have laid Him” (John 20:13). As she said this, she turned around, and there was Jesus standing in front of her. God, who is the same yesterday, today and forever, became concerned about my crying too, He asked me the same question that was posed to Mary: Woman, why are you weeping (so)? For Whom are you looking? My answer was, I feel lost and alone, I do not have a helper, and God asked me to make a U-turn to my inner self where the Holy Spirit dwells for He is my Helper, Councilor, and Redeemer and I must stop looking for a perfect man, for He has given us the perfect man—Jesus Christ. God became concerned about my unhappiness. He assured me that when Jesus died, He took away my sins and weaknesses so that I could receive His blessings, and live the good life th
