About the Author
For everyone who ever believed in me, I am forever grateful and your energy is truly appreciated.
And for all the Believers, the Dreamers, and the Doers in the Universe. Keep living the life you’ve imagined.
Introduction
“No matter what you believe in, always believe in yourself.”
Everything has purpose. That is my life motto. I’ve lived by that motto since as long as I can remember, since I was a little girl. You may think, “That’s a pretty big life motto for a little girl.” Your right! But having this motto and believing that everything in life happens for a reason was the only way I was able to motivate myself to keep going, to keep believing that things will get better, and to keep believing in myself.
In the very first meeting I had with Sabine Giger, my publisher, she asked me, “Why? Why write a book now?” Yes, those are very good questions. Why wait all these years? I could have written this book while I was Miss Switzerland and it might have sold out in a few days. I could have taken advantage of my popularity and all the media that was interested in every move that I made. But I didn’t. I did think about it a few times, but they were just thoughts and I left it at that. So you might ask, like Mrs. Giger did, “Why now?”
Here is my answer. Now I’m ready. It takes a pile of courage, inner strength, self-confidence, inner peace, acceptance, and trust to share your life story with the world. And now I’m ready to do that, and I feel a calling to do it. The purpose of this book is to share my story and to be a motivation to others that no matter what happens in life, you can stay positive, you can believe in yourself – always – and that you can create your future. No matter what has happened in the past, you, and only you, can create the life you want for yourself. When I say “create the life you want for yourself ”, it includes creating the kind of person you want to be. Experiencing a difficult past is no excuse for allowing yourself to have an ugly character, one of hatred, jealousy, or hostility. You can create for yourself a character of kindness, contentment, and serenity.
Everything in life has its right time, when the time is right and the universe makes it’s call, it will happen. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, sometimes when things get tough you might think, “Why is this happening to me?” I don’t have the answer to that. What I do have are my experiences and how I dealt with the difficult situations in my life. I can offer you insights into dealing with traumatic life experiences, staying positive through devastation, self-motivation, living in the moment, and creating the future you imagine. I’m not professing that everything I say is the right answer for you, I’m offering my experiences, my philosophy, what worked for me, and what might work for others. Take it or leave it, it’s up to you. Either way I hope that in reading this book, you may learn a little more about me, about overcoming obstacles, and about always believing in yourself.
With this I wish you a pleasant journey as you dive into my world as it once was, how it came to be as it is and how I came to be as I am.
A short but important note, all names have been changed for their privacy and protection. All situations are described from my own experience, my own point of view, and perspective. Second and third parties who may have been involved in the situations may have different opinions and points of view.
LIVING IN THE MOMENT PART I
“When the mind is quiet you can hear the soul. The soul is always speaking but often you can’t hear it because the mind is too loud.”

I live in the moment. I always have, and probably always will. I learned this at a very young age. It’s not something I learned in school, I didn’t have philosophical talks with my parents about living in the NOW. I learned this because this is how I lived for the most part of my life. Living, surviving from moment to moment was my everyday life. I never thought about where the next vacation would be, birthday or Christmas gifts, what outfit to wear for an outing, or what salads to make for the BBQ next weekend. The thoughts that consumed my mind were these; can we pay the rent at the end of the month?, is the water and electricity bill paid for?, no money for laundry – we’ll have to hand wash in the bathtub, is mom ok? We lived from hour to hour, sometimes not knowing if we would have electricity in the evening. So when people ask me today, “How do you live in the moment?” or “You always seem so calm, does nothing worry or bother you?”, I often smile and take a deep breath before I answer.
I’ll answer the second question first, it’s a bit easier. Yes, for the most part I am a calm person, and no, not very many things worry or bother me. Why? Well, the simple answer is this – because I know everything will work itself out. It doesn’t mean that it will work out the way you envisioned or the way you want, but it will work out in a way that you will live through it and survive. Because, the universe doesn’t give you anything that you cannot handle. And in the end the most important thing is that you survived, because everything that you survive makes you stronger in the long run. Or put another way, there is always a solution, and sometimes you have to be damn creative, and sometimes you have to swallow your pride, but like one of my favorite quotes says, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” I can personally attest to this, if you have the will to do something or to achieve something or to make the best of something, and you truly believe with all your heart, then you will always find a way. I’m not saying that it will be easy, there will most likely be bumps and curves along the way (unless your part of the 5 % of the population for which everything seems to go perfectly, but then they have problems of their own kind). It may be a long journey, longer than you wished, sometimes things may not happen when you want them to, you may have to wait a few months or even a few years, and the path may change throughout the journey, leading you to different paths, which in the end bring you to the place you wish to be.
One of the most important things that I’ve learned along my journey is to always be flexible, be open to the new and different. Being flexible allows us to see new opportunities, to see new paths, new directions, which may bring us to something even better than we imagined. So how does all this help to not worry about things and stay calm? Simply knowing the fact that everything happens for a reason is 50 % of the game. The next time you’re in a difficult situation repeat this to yourself a few times, “Everything happens for a reason”, over and over and over, until it sticks in your head like one of those songs that no matter how hard you try to forget, it just keeps coming back! Now, I know what you’re asking next. How can you just accept that everything happens for a reason? And how can you accept that when you don’t know the reason? Isn’t that just an easy way out? Ok, one question at a time! First question, How can you accept that everything happens for a reason? Well, because it does! There’s no other way to explain it. If something happens, then there is a reason. It can also be turned around. If something doesn’t happen, there’s a reason for it not happening. Reasons for things happening, or not happening, don’t have to be mountain moving, reasons can be as small as an ant.
Second question, How can you accept that everything has a reason when you don’t know the reason? I’m going to answer this question with a question. Do we always have to know everything?
