About the Author
PREFACE WAKE-UP CALL
October 29, 1996, 3:00 a.m. was my wake-up call.
“Honey, I think the house is on fire!” I shouted frantically, shaking my husband awake. We leapt out of bed, and I breathlessly called 911.
We were enveloped in thick smoke. Panic set in.
The fire chief said it was probably breaking glass or the smoke alarm in the kitchen that woke me, because “the smell of a smoke never awakens anyone.”
Firemen had pulled my husband, children, and me safely out of the house. On our ambulance ride to the hospital, I felt more grateful than ever for my life and my family, as I watched my daughter share her oxygen with Erda, our family cat.
The fire changed my life forever. I learned profound life lessons from this experience:
Stuff is just stuff. Stuff can be replaced.
People and relationships are important.
Family is important.
Life Matters. Each moment is important and precious.
Prior to the fire, I had been in a pattern of living in the past or worrying about the future, not being in the present moment. I missed many precious moments while stuck in worry or wondering what others thought of me.
I now reminded myself to be open to receiving. People wanted to help us, needed to help us. I learned to accept help with humility and gratitude rather than trying to go through it alone. I opened myself to receiving more in many ways including becoming aware of subtle energies and messages—and paying attention to what they were trying to tell me.
The greatest lesson? We are not victims in our lives.
I realized how many times I had acted like a victim and responded to life as a victim. I focused on lack and on all that was not working well in my life.
It took a major inferno to pull me out of victim mode.
Yes, that was a difficult time; and it took some time to recover and get on my feet. Fortunately, we were well insured, and our home could be repaired; yet what I learned shifted something within me and set me on a journey to discover more about myself and how I could be of service to others in more meaningful ways.
The fire was a gift in that it helped me to further shape my soul purpose. Since my life had become way out of balance, the journey to discover my true self required a continued integration, a balancing act between the visible and invisible, masculine and feminine energies, and the light and darkness within.
This book supports my soul purpose. The tools and information herein are offered to develop and enhance the integration of balance, wholeness, and self-interpretation so that others on a similar path can move forward more swiftly and easily and be inspired toward self-understanding, self-healing, and self-empowerment.
Each person is unique and beautiful; and beyond that, each physical body is an integral part of that person’s consciousness. We experience everything through our bodies via our senses. Our bodies help us to interpret the world and are an expression of our consciousness. Our body’s “symptoms” of illness or disease are our messengers for uncovering the magic and mystery within each of us.
We are all connected in magical ways we may not always totally understand, recognizing simple archetypal patterns associated with planets can help to illuminate common human patterns and common human experiences. Recognition of such patterns makes it possible to perceive certain life and health situations in a new light. The “messages” of these symptoms are like light switches that, when turned on, illuminate the path to self-understanding that lead to empowerment and healing. Uncovering these pathways of self-perception can enhance our vitality and even our longevity. We become aware of what needs to change and how life can be better.
Exploring some of the most frequent expressions of illness and disease in our society and in my own chiropractic practice has allowed me to identify common patterns. This helped me to better understand myself and others and to notice and recognize the imbalance of masculine and feminine energies in our society.
Exploring astrological planetary archetypes and the qualities associated with the elements: earth, air, fire, and water is a profound way to explore what the body is saying around this imbalance. In astrology, earth and water are associated with feminine energies; air and fire are associated with masculine energies. The integration of these elements and archetypes occurs deep within and is important for healing and remaining healthy.
Planetary archetypes are metaphors for the universal blueprints that affect all of us. Astrological signs—the patterns, personalities, and attributes associated with various planets of the zodiac illustrate universal archetypal patterns. The expression of archetypal patterns varies, depending on the individual’s life experience and their unique genetic expression.
I use the twelve signs of the zodiac and the planets associated with those signs to describe archetypes. Physical symptoms associated with each of these astrological planets are explored later in the book. Each of the characteristics and patterns related to the planetary archetypes are represented in every person, so it doesn’t matter which “sign of the zodiac” a person is born under.
The planets are used as a framework for explanation and as a template for exploration and understanding—and are not intended in any way to be used for astrological readings or to explore planetary motion. I leave that to astrology experts.
Humans have identified with the ancient wisdom of the zodiac for centuries, suggesting these archetypal patterns are uni
