To God be the glory for the great things He has done in my life, my marriage, and my family. I want to use this medium to thank the Almighty God, the revealer of secrets and the inspiration behind the ideas and all issues discussed in this book.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
F IRST AND FOREMOST, I would like to thank the Almighty God who is the source and the inspiration of everything inside this book. I will also like to appreciate the “love of my life,” Pastor A. O. Akanni, who stood in the gap for me with his prayers.
I would also use this medium to thank the wonderful children God gave unto me. Your prayers are much appreciated. I thank you for loving me unconditionally.
Moreover, I would like to thank those who have lent a “helping hand” through typing this manuscript: Yuliya, Brian, Adenike, Ibukun and Isaac Oluwafunmi. I thank God for your sacrificial love by setting time to help me type.
I would like to use this medium to appreciate those who gave me useful hints and explanations on some biblical passages and truths. Pastor Michael Schnase of Rancho Cordova, Brother Anderful, Brother Loga, and Bro. Rick Scully, I thank God for your lives. Moreover, I would be an ungrateful brat if I fail to thank Apostle Martin Mwangi of Sacramento for his prayers and the motivation he provided in making this book a reality.
Last but not least, I would like to thank my “father-in-the-Lord,” the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye for his prayers.
PREFACE
I T IS OFTEN said “life is a battle.” Every man born of woman is fighting a spiritual battle that cannot be seen with physical eyes. As we all know, “man is a spirit,” “he possesses a soul” and “lives in a body.” Thus, man is a spiritual being fighting a spiritual battle that cannot be seen with the physical eyes. For man to be victorious in a spiritual battle, he has to become spiritual.
When a baby is born naturally into the world, he has inherited the sins of Adam, the Adamic nature. Such a boy will continue to exhibit the sinful Adamic nature: telling lies, stealing, adultery, etc. This sinful Adamic nature in man makes him natural, and a natural man cannot win a spiritual battle unless he becomes spiritual. Thus, it is necessary for a natural man to become spiritual by giving his heart to the Lord.
Therefore if any man be in Christ , he is a new creature : old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. —2 Corinthians 5:17
When a natural man gives his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ, he has given his soul to Him. At this juncture, he has become spiritual, and it is then our Lord Jesus Christ can help him fight and win the spiritual battles of life.
I was fighting an invisible enemy for a long time until I gave my heart to the Lord afresh. Then I asked Him to reveal to me the source of the problem I was going through. It was after then the veil covering my spiritual eyes was torn, and I could see clearly the invisible enemy—the sin no one talks about.
When the veil separating the Holy of Holies, the earthly dwelling place of God, from the rest of the temple was torn at the time of Jesus’s death on the cross, it was a significant event. When the veil was torn, the Almighty God moved out of that temple made by human hands with its religious system into the human heart, through the Holy Spirit, who now resides in man, God’s temple. The veil was a constant reminder that sin in the life of a man renders him unfit to win the spiritual battles of life. Despite the fact that numerous sin offerings and uncountable sacrifices were made daily, none could truly atone for our sins, except the blood of Jesus.
The veil represents Jesus Christ Himself, who is the superior high priest. Through the shedding of His blood, we can confidently enter into God’s presence. We no longer need to go through a priest.
When the sins in our lives, which have rendered us unfit to win our spiritual battles, are forgiven and flushed away through the blood of Jesus, it is at this juncture we can gain access into God’s presence, when His light shines upon us. We then come to realize the sins in our lives. The Holy Spirit impresses it on our hearts, and then He begins to help us overcome it.
There is a Chinese proverb that says, “Only he that has traveled on a road knows where the holes are deep.”
Such a person gained some experience on that particular road, and he will be able to tell others how to travel on such a road with caution.
Those who have traveled ignorantly on this “wide road” know its dangers. Hence, the Lord laid it upon my heart to write this book to let believers know the dangers and the misery they would encounter while traveling on this wide road. A lot of people, especially believers, are traveling on this wide road because they feel they are free to do whatever they like with their bodies. They have probably forgotten their bodies are the temples of God.
My advice is no one should travel on this road at all because it is the road that leads to destruction, but narrow is the road that leads to eternal life, and only a few people travel on this road. This is the right road to take—the road of salvation of our soul through Jesus Christ.
INTRODUCTION
T HE ALMIGHTY GOD is sovereign, meaning His throne is in heaven and He makes the whole earth His footstool.
Therefore, everything, including all the various types of people, animals, trees, vegetation, material wealth, the moon, sun, stars, and all the various seasons, were created by God for His pleasure.
All these things are inside His footstool, and so He controls them as He desires and according to His will. God has a will. His will is His plan for the whole world and for individuals, and He is always making sure His plan comes into reality.
Throughout the Bible, we can see the love of God being made manifest through His desires. God’s ultimate desire is to create something good out of something bad or out of something insignificant. This desire is borne out of great love for man. We see this throughout the Bible. In Genesis, we see at the beginning of creation the whole earth was without form and void meaning; it was shapeless, empty, and full of darkness.
God was not pleased with what He saw. To bring something beautiful and pleasing out of the earth, His Spirit hovered over it, giving it shape, filling it up, and causing His light to shine over it at His first pronouncement. His first pronouncement was “Let there be light,” and immediately, there was light.
His ultimate desire is to create man in His image and likeness, which is borne out of His love for him. After creating man, He wanted man to have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10) in the Garden of Eden. This is also why He sent His only begotten Son into the world. He performed various miracles: healing the sick, delivering those who are oppressed by the devil, and raising the dead back to life; so they can all live abundant lives here on earth first and later in heaven.
God’s ultimate desire to create something good out of something insignificant led Him to create man out of dust. Dust, mud, or sand is dirty. We trample upon it. We do all sorts of dirty things on it, e.g., we spit on it, and we defecate and urinate on it. Despite being dirty, God still used it to create something as beautiful as man.
After creating man, He breathed into man, and man became a living soul
