CAUSE EFFECT
To gain maximum power, take responsibility for everything that happens in your universe.

Which side of the Cause Effect equation are you on? Are you At Cause in your life, or are you At Effect of things in your life?
How RESPONSIBLE are you being for ALL the results you get your life?
PERCEPTION IS PROJECTION
You can t perceive anything outside you that is not in some way an example of you. Ask how is that (behaviour) me/an example of my behaviour? Or as 5 year olds would say, It takes one to know one!
NLP COMMUNICATION MODEL
THE PRINCIPLES FOR SUCCESS Know your desired outcome/goal before you begin. If you can define your outcome appropriately, then the outcome will be more achievable. Don t start anything without knowing what you want in advance. Use your sensory acuity, gather relevant information, take feedback . This helps you notice whether you are on track to achieve your goal. Seek and take feedback. Be flexible . The more flexible you are, the more likely it is that you will succeed. Be willing to do whatever it takes (ecology!) to achieve success. Build and maintain good relationships. Create a climate of trust and co-operation. Use positive body language and have a positive mental attitude. Operate from a totally positive state. Take Action. Without action there are no results
Note: Principles 1, 2 and 3 are traditionally known as the Three Legs or Three Pillars of NLP . Principle 4 is included by some schools, referring to principles 1-4 as the Four Pillars of NLP .
PRESUPPOSITIONS OF NLP
1.
Respect for the other person s Model of the World.
2.
The meaning of a communication is the response you get.
3.
The mind and the body affect each other.
4.
The map is not the territory. The words we use are not the event or the item they represent.
5.
People are doing the best they can with the resources they (believe they) have available. Their present behaviour is the best choice available, and has a positive intent for them. Accept the person. Support/assist them to change their behaviour.
6.
Behaviour is geared toward adaptation. Behaviour is created specifically to the context and what is currently being experienced.
7.
Pay attention to behaviour . Actions speak louder than words.
8.
Behaviour and change are to be evaluated in terms of context and ecology. All meaning is context dependent.
9.
People have all the resources that they need to make the changes they want. There are no unresourceful people, just unresourceful states.
10.
If something is possible (for someone in a broadly similar situation) then it s probably possible for me. It s only a matter of how. There are few limits on people s ability to learn.
11.
The person with the most choices of behaviour will have the most influence of the system . (Law of Requisite Variety.)
12.
There is no failure, just feedback. If a person does not succeed in something, they have not succeeded YET.
13.
There are no resistant clients, only inflexible communicators. Build more rapport, be more flexible.
14.
All procedures should increase choice and develop greater personal flexibility. Choice is better than no choice.
15.
All procedures should increase wholeness. Fewer parts mean less conflict and more congruence.
16.
Change can be quick, easy and lasting. It s the build-up to change that may take a while or be difficult.
17.
We are in charge of our mind and therefore our results.
USING NLP ECOLOGICALLY
There are several ways to facilitate you to work in an ecological way. Here are some of the ways to do this:
Asking the ecology/secondary gain questions from Question 9 from Keys to Achievable Outcomes
Testing and future pacing your interventions
Considering the situation from all three perceptual positions
Considering the Logical Levels Model
Taking into account the NLP Presuppositions - does the intervention conflict with any of them?
How does the intervention fit with your own personal ecology?
Using your sensory acuity to notice any non-verbal signals suggesting that the client is not 100% congruent about making the changes.
PRE-INTERVENTION QUESTIONS
In addition, here are some useful questions to ask before doing any intervention: Where are you now (x/10)? Where would you like to be (y/10)? How would you know when you were there (in 10-20 minutes at the end of the intervention)? What are the consequences:
-negative? (if so, address them before doing the interventions)
-positive? (listen for some key benefits of making the change) Or, ask the four questions from point 9 of the Keys to an Achievable Outcome On a scale of zero to 100, how OK is it for you to do this
