INTRODUCTION
Sleeping Man
The vast majority of people sleep through their waking lives unaware of the powers within them. Capable of attaining spiritual heights, they seem to prefer the great dream of life instead of awakening to the true reality of themselves as a spark of the divine. We are lost in a dream, some would call us the sleeping man. One has to exercise the force of will in order to wake oneself up in this lifetime. Other wise one drifts through life more or less in a sleep state missing most of the good stuff. When we say a sleep state, we mean not being in control, by allowing the body, the emotions, and the mind to be in control of our lives. Have you ever driven some place and when you arrived there, you realize you didn’t remember the actual drive, or did you do something and then not realize that you did it. These are examples of operating in a sleep state. A great many of us are running on automatic. We do things and don’t even know why we do these things. For most of us life is just one big habit or routine, we wake up in the morning, wash ourselves, eat breakfast, drive to work, do our daily work functions, drive home after work, make dinner, eat dinner, watch the television for several hours, and then finally we go to sleep. And we repeat this process at least five days a week. Of course weekends may be slightly different, but once again we most likely repeat the same activities, like shopping or watching sports on the television. So, at the end of our lives we realize we have done the same thing over and over without realizing why. It is sad to say that most of us are so busy in our daily routines that we are not even aware of our spirit. It is the goal of this book to put us back in touch with our spirit and back in control of our lives.
We are Spiritual Beings
We are spiritual beings. Most of us think we are human beings having a spiritual experience. However, it’s actually the other way, we are spiritual beings having human experiences, not human beings having spiritual experiences. Many of us don’t believe it and if we do, we don’t really understand the obviousness of it. We don’t believe it because we have been taught since birth that we are the human beings (the body, the emotions, and the mind), and that the spirit is some strange unknown. In fact most of us are never taught anything about the spirit. Even our educational system focuses on training the body and the mind, not the spirit. So it’s no wonder that most of us know nothing about our spiritual side. Our nature as pure consciousness, as a spiritual being is right in front of us. Here is a brief exercise that wil
