I am me. I am enough. I do enough. Every day. Not who I think others expect me to be, but the real, unedited, beauty-full, and perfectly flawed version.
Insights from Chapter 2

#1

Part I is about preparing for the journey. It covers the importance of grounding and listening to yourself in a world full of endless distractions, how to find your soul’s true passion, and why that’s step one to this awesome life you want.

#2

I was a sophomore in college, living in sunny Los Angeles, attending my dream school. I had everything the world told me to value, but I still hungered for something more. I heard other people talk about their lives and their passions with such conviction, and I didn’t have that thing that lit me up from within.

#3

I had to read a monologue for a play, and when I finished, the director asked me to do it again, this time imagining what it would be like if I were the father of an acid attack victim. I was cast the next week.

#4

You will only find your passion if you search and fight to discover it. It is often associated with an injustice that infuriates you, but not always. For many, discovering their passion is what brings them the most amount of bliss and serenity.

#5

To find your passion, you must be open to trying something new. Start by thinking about what makes you angry or blissful, and what you do that makes you lose track of time. Then start there.

#6

I started acting when I was nine. I was blessed with a strong foundation, but I had to admit to myself that I wasn’t model pretty. I was beyond grateful for the opportunities, but I was still a girl. I looked in the mirror and wondered why I looked like that and I looked like this.

#7

Passion is something that you must constantly strive to have. It is difficult to chase, but it will bring you great satisfaction when you finally reach it. It is the process of making things that brings you joy.

#8

Your life’s mission is not to achieve the appearance of success or whatever version of success your parents, friends, or teachers want for you. Your life’s mission is to discover what makes you tick and then spend a lifetime doing it.

#9

You must first turn off everything and spend five minutes in complete, intentional silence. Your passion lies within you, but you must first find the time to be quiet enough to let your truth speak up.

#10

Stop accepting the dreams of others as your own and start thinking about what you want out of life. You may discover that you’ve had the same dream since you were a little kid, but you may surprise yourself by discovering a new passion.

#11

When you don’t know what you want, all the options look good. You must ask yourself what you want, and then figure out what qualities and actions are important to you. Your manifesto is a reflection of your values, and it should help you figure out what you want.

#12

Take the time to examine your life from time to time. Ask yourself where you’ve been, where you are, and where you want to be. Write down these questions and answers them as honestly as possible.

#13

The American Dream is about pursuing your own path and figuring out how to travel on it. You’ll learn how to gather a great team of cheerleaders, get back on your feet after a disappointment, and believe in yourself even when others don’t.

#14

I have always been surrounded by love, and I have learned that it is the most valuable currency of all. Love helped me develop the confidence and bravery to take some crazy serious risks, and I have never forgotten how unoriginal my suffering is.

#15

If you want to be the best version of yourself, you must begin every day knowing who you are and try to be the best, brightest version of yourself. You are so much more valuable to everyone around you and to the world if you start every day with confidence.

#16

Destiny is synonymous with dreaming. When you discover your passion, the world suddenly makes sense, colors become brighter, and a part of you awakens. You'll never be the same again.

#17

You must be willing to fight for the things that are important to you, and that discussion with your mom was the first time I stood my ground and she respected me for it.

#18

You can have a job, but are you being a kind and compassionate lawyer. Or are you picking up garbage with a sense of pride and commitment. When your days are over, you will not be taking your fancy car or job title with you. What you will leave behind is a legacy.

#19

It is important to tune out what everyone else thinks. It is easy to get lost in the game of living for everyone else but you. It is important to ask yourself what is worthy of waking up for every day.
