Description

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book.
Sample Book Insights:
#1 Meditation techniques aim to answer one question: can existence take care of itself. If the answer is no, then all the struggle and frustration that enters everyday life is justified. But if the answer is yes, a new life awaits everyone.
#2 Meditation is the only human activity that explores the mind when it has no thoughts. Everything else in philosophy and psychology is about thoughts. Awareness precedes thoughts, but in modern life we have reversed things so completely that everyone’s life is built upon mental activity without having any idea where thoughts come from.
#3 The idea that humans can make the universe wake up is very bold, but it makes sense given our ability to bring novelty into existence. We do this through new and deeper understanding.
#4 The principles of consciousness are what make waking up unique. Waking up isn’t the same as thinking, nor is it the same as being sharp instead of groggy, smart instead of dull. Waking up is about learning how consciousness operates and then applying its principles accordingly.

meditation techniques aim to answer one question: can existence take care of itself. If the answer is no, then all the struggle and frustration that enters everyday life is justified. But if the answer is yes, a new life awaits everyone.

#2

Meditation is the only human activity that explores the mind when it has no thoughts. Everything else in philosophy and psychology is about thoughts. Awareness precedes thoughts, but in modern life we have reversed things so completely that everyone’s life is built upon mental activity without having any idea where thoughts come from.

#3

The idea that humans can make the universe wake up is very bold, but it makes sense given our ability to bring novelty into existence. We do this through new and deeper understanding.

#4

The principles of consciousness are what make waking up unique. Waking up isn’t the same as thinking, nor is it the same as being sharp instead of groggy, smart instead of dull. Waking up is about learning how consciousness operates and then applying its principles accordingly.

#5

Total meditation is a practice that embraces all the principles of consciousness that exist to be understood and lived. It is a path to freedom that allows you to apply those principles to your own life.

#6

I have taught meditation to countless people, and I have seen the potential of meditation to change lives. However, people give meditation only half a chance, and soon they drop their practice because their days are too busy.

#7

The divided self is something we all live with. It is made up of different personalities that we put on depending on who we are dealing with. We are constantly battling between our inner demons and our desires for a better life.

#8

The first time you experience meditation, you feel excitement because there is a place inside everyone that is free of the divided self. With a little practice, you can find this place inside and escape inner conflict, turmoil, fear, depression, worry, confusion, and self-doubt.

#9

The issue with meditation is that it can take you beyond your divided self, but the moment you open your eyes at the end of a meditation, your divided self returns to normal. The only solution to this problem is based on repetition. If you just keep meditating day after day, year after year, everything will be resolved.

#10

Total meditation must be natural and effortless, it must be spontaneous, and it must be in line with each person’s ultimate desires. If these three requirements are met, then the divided self can come to an end.

#11

Awareness is the most basic experience. It is the experience of being present. It is the ground state of your existence. It is what exists when your senses are ignored. It is the sense of self that exists no matter what is happening or not happening.

#12

Life is consciousness. You have consciousness, and without it, you would be mindless. The principles of consciousness permeate everything. It is mistaken to believe, as many scientists do, that consciousness didn’t appear until the human brain evolved.

#13

The hypothesis that existence can take care of us effortlessly, naturally, and spontaneously is tested in total meditation. Despite the divided self and all the problems it has created, consciousness has not abandoned human beings.

#14

The experience of samadhi is the difference between shallow silence and deep silence. In shallow silence, some important things can still happen, but you won’t be able to reach deep silence.

#15

The vagus nerve is not just carrying signals all over the body, but it is also conveying consciousness. The fact that a single cranial nerve has holistic effects indicates how totally consciousness pervades mind and body.

#16

The sea of consciousness embraces everything, without boundaries and limitations. You are free to respect boundaries while at the same time knowing that the boundaries are artificial. They don’t change your essential nature, which is unbounded.

#17

The story of the Gould’s petrel is a example of how instinct and genetics don’t explain everything in nature. The bird’s flight is a mystery that science can’t yet explain.

#18

The only explanation for the intricate behavior of Gould’s petrel is that it is conscious. It has an intention, knows what it needs to do, and acts according to a time schedule. It doesn’t need teaching, because it possesses every bit of knowledge innately.
