PREFACE
The ancient proverb says, “If you faint in times of adversity then your strength is small.” If you fall to pieces in the midst of a crisis then there wasn’t much to you in the first place .
I am calling all men, women, leaders, parents, husbands, wives, youth adults, and all survivors who have lived to witness another day. This is a call to action for you.
This call to action is to provoke you to raise the bar. This is a call to increase your level of toughness, boldness and tenacity so you can embrace the tough times that lie ahead. I am looking for TOUGH PEOPLE. Tough stands for:
T - tenacious
O - opimistic
U - unstoppable
G – Gutsy
H – ard-hitting
Tough times surround us. Adversity is on every hand. Trouble is evident & obvious. Ungrateful mindsets, rebellious children and discontent parents are on the headlines of the family agenda. Violence, murder, racial tension, and even political corruption add to the long list showing the signs of the times. Temptation is lurking like a bad habit waiting to devour the next prey. Turbulent winds blow and continue to wreak havoc over our countries as we prepare for storms, floods, hurricanes and even tornadoes. Pestilences, famines, droughts, and pandemics layer the landscape of our globe as we race to find a cure or even a vaccine to heal the persistent plagues. Thoughts of suicide run rampant as people try to shift to survival mode. Tough times call for people who will stand up and accept the challenge to win at any cost no matter what life throws their way.
Uncertainties are like statues that stand boldly and silently declaring, reaffirming and concurring that we are certainly in the midst of difficult times. From financial hardships and unstable relationships to hopelessness, grief, depression and fear, we conclude tough times still remain.
Yet during tough times “tough people” have this uncanny way of maintaining a relentless, courageous mindset that will be sustained under pressure, scrutiny, and criticism. Their mindset is “I will not give up” no matter what hand I am dealt, what trial or test that comes my way.
The purpose of this book is to challenge the reader to raise the bar and embrace the times which we live with a different attitude. It is important that we accelerate and transcend our thinking to embrace the turbulent hours. In each chapter we will unpack strategies & techniques to help the reader outlast, outlive, and advance during difficult times. Tough times call for tough people and only the tough people will survive.
Imagine your life challenges are like an airplane that has taken off and reached beginning 10,000-feet altitude. As the plane ascends, there are detections of rough weather ahead. Warning alerts have flashed and the flight attendant has instructed all passengers to keep their seatbelts fastened and prepare for the turbulence. Ladies and gentlemen tough times are in the air and the alarms are sounding. It may be a bumpy ride but you will reach your destination.
Let’s prepare for take-off…wheels up!

CHAPTER 1
Tough Times are Testing Times
Throughout the years of my life I have adopted a motto that really helps me to get through my tough times. I have chosen this phrase as an anthem for my life: “ Learn from your mistakes so you won’t repeat them. Learn the lesson or you will repeat the c lass.”
Life lessons are sometimes the hardest to learn and the hardest to master. Life is tough and the lessons we learn from life should empower us to become tougher and stronger. Life lessons are learned from the tests of life that come so perfectly packaged and tailor-made for each of our lives. These tests, trials, challenges, and circumstances are not pleasant and many times show up unannounced and ready to reveal our character flaws, weaknesses, and strengths. Tough times are testing times! As we presently face tough times it is imperative for us to realize that tough times and testing times go hand-in-hand like peanut butter & jelly. When we read the Bible it clearly says that we should count it all joy when we encounter various (diverse) tests and trials in our personal lives. (James 1:2)
Testing times are specific times in life when we are the most vulnerable and subject to temptation. It is not the testing and the temptation that is the problem. The problem is when we yield to temptation or we fail the test. The tests we took in school were based on academics and our knowledge of the material that was taught by our teachers. When we speak of life tests we are speaking of a series of challenges that make up a process that ultimately is designed to develop character, expose strength, dissolve weaknesses, and should result in more strength, stamina, knowledge, wisdom, and experience. The individual series of challenges, hurdles, and upheavals have been specifically hand-picked by God just for you based on your PERSONALITY. That’s right your personality is the perfect starting point for where God does his best work. “He who has begun a good work in you shall complete until the day of Jesus Christ.”(Philippians 1:6)
Each life test will target the character flaws in an individual. The goal is to bring out the best in the individual through strenuous, yet strategic and complex exercises and experiences. My greatest life challenge was my personal test of patience. By nature I was always impatient and hasty to move when I thought the timing was right. After years of living my life beyond my time I finally reached a pinnacle of awareness when I realized I had moved so fast that I was making poor choices even in my relationships and married too soon. As I looked back in hindsight I realized that it wasn’t necessarily the “wrong person” but the wrong timing. We were not ready and the timing was not right. The hardest lesson that I learned was that impatience produces hasty decisions.
