Arizona Ghost Stories
“Gives a hauntingly accurate overview of the many reports of haunted sites all over the state. It not only lists the places from north to south, but also quotes the interviews of eyewitnesses, giving a remarkable feeling of being there with them as they encounter the unknown. Such sites as the Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee to the Jerome Inn come to life in Mr. Garcez’s investigations. His chapter on the reports of ghosts at Tombstone is perhaps one of the best accounts I have seen on this subject.”
—Richard Senate, “Hollywood’s Ghosts”
“Arizona could not have asked for a better chronicler of its supernatural landscape that Antonio R. Garcez. From Arivaca to Yuma, Arizona’s most haunted places are all here! These stories will send shivers up your spine, and rightly so—they all really took place! If you have ever wanted to experience something paranormal, let this book be your guide.”
—Dennis William Hauck, “Haunted Places—The National Directory”
Ghost Stories of California’s Gold Rush Country and Yosemite National Park

“If you’re a lover of the supernatural, get cozy in an easy chair and prepare your self for the inevitable. Eyewitness accounts told in a straightforward manner!”
—Tim Palmieri, Western Outlaw-Lawman History Association
“As a subject where many of the books written simply regurgitate previously produced material, Author Antonio R. Garcez does an excellent job of locating and interviewing primary resources to provide fresh stories of ghost folklore. Each chapter contains a brief introduction that supplies some of the background of the town and sites in question, followed by transcriptions of the witnesses' stories. Garcez's style is simple and easy to follow; the stories he has found are quickly engrossing. The fact that he put the time into his field research is impressive. Garcez can always be relied on to provide fresh stories of the supernatural and this book is no exception. He does his field research to find first-hand accounts from the people who witnessed them. When so many other writers concentrate more on information other paranormal researchers produce, Garcez deserves a great deal of credit.”

Introduction

The book you hold represents six years of travel conducting personal interviews with individuals who have had their lives changed forever by an encounter with a spiritual entity. This time around, I’ve chosen to focus entirely on the topic of paranormal encounters by members of the medical profession. I’ve undertaken this unique reality after having numerous healthcare workers from all fields of their professions contact me by e-mail, at lectures, or by phone who willingly came forward to describe their own experiences.
It has become clear to me that hospitals and other health care facilities were often places of intense emotional trauma and not surprisingly, even death. Who better to have experienced the paranormal in such conditions than these skilled and dedicated medical professionals. These individuals span the medical field from physicians to x-ray technicians, nurses to chaplains and many others.
Not one specific profession experiences more hauntings than others nor was one physical location within a hospital more prone to paranormal activity. Patient rooms, operating rooms, and morgues are all equally haunted. I can conclude that there are no boundaries that a spirit obeys or follows, however, ghosts appear in whatever area of a hospital they choose. Keep in mind that a particular medical facility may be the last place a soul remembers and very well could be the place where their final conscious mind existed prior to passing. Medical facilities are often places where psychotropic drugs are administered to patients or where patients physical and emotional suffering remain evident within a property location. Is it possible that these spirit energies could still be asking or pleading for help from the living staff?
Numerous medical staff report that patients who experience overwhelming pain and suffering sometimes cry out for staff to permit them to “cross over.” In other instances, patients in the process of dying also describe to staff that they see departed loved ones present in the room, waiting to assist them with their transition. Within seconds these patients often seem to experience an unexplainable sense of serenity. Some empathetic caregivers have shared with me that they have even observed the patient’s soul energy leaving the body at their moment of death.
It has become customary for caregivers witnessing the final moments of a patient’s life, to respectfully offer a prayer of release of the spirit from the body, forever releasing the deceased from the pain and illness that confined them in this life. By offering this personal prayer, it is believed that the soul gains guidance, direction, and understanding to move on to the next dimension.
In this book you will not read about “abandoned” or now-defunct haunted hospitals. I chose instead to report about current, active facilities that are presently very much operating at full service capacity.
In conclusion, almost every health care facility and hospital has some type of ghost story attached to it. Some stories are positive and some are not. And now I present to you the first ever, notable collection of actual ghost sightings and paranormal experiences by members of the medical profession!
—Antonio
