ABOUT THIS BOOK
Pain is an unpleasant feeling or an emotion that is associated with potential or actual tissue damage. The three main categories of pain include acute, cancer, and chronic pain. Pain management or treatment includes therapies, medications, and mind-body techniques. According to the 2019 statistics provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 20.4 percent of U.S. adults have chronic pain and about 7.4 percent of adults have high-impact chronic pain. The prevalences of chronic pain and high-impact chronic pain were higher among adults 65 years of age and over. Statistics also stated that 21.7 percent of women have chronic pain and 8.5 percent have high-impact chronic pain whereas chronic and high-impact chronic pain affects only 19 percent and 6.3 percent of men respectively.
Pain Sourcebook, Sixth Edition provides detailed information on encountering and avoiding pain such as pain perception, mind and body approaches, physical activity, and ergonomics to avoid pain. This book also discusses other pain-related injuries and disorders, such as dental pain, gastrointestinal pain, neuropathies, urological pain along with medical management of pain which includes restorative therapy, interventional procedures, complementary and integrative health and a glossary of related terms and directory of organizations that provide information about pain management.
