Description

Inspiration for Active -Duty Military and Their Hometown HeroesThis encouraging book is more than just a helpful guide for families on active duty. Ellie offers today's generation of families the encouragement they need as they encounter the challenges military families face, whether they're Reserves, National Guard, or full-time active duty. As the wife of an Air Force pilot and the mom of five kids, Ellie has an inside perspective on how to cope with frequent moves, be ready for imminent deployment, and stay in touch over long distances. Her sage advice and witty humor give families some sense of comfort when military life seems chaotic. Ellie is "bent on ensuring our military members and families are thanked, loved, and know they are serving with support" (Command Chief Master Sergeant Vance M. Clarke, USAF).

This is certainly true for our nation’s military personnel at home and abroad, and it is equally true for those heroes who remain on the home front. W hen people ask me what I do, I tell them that being America’s Family Financial Expert® is my profession, but bringing Heroes at Home to military troops and their families is my passion. This book started with an idea to fill the gap in the marketplace for a resource that would help meet a military family’s unique needs. Bethany House Publishers had the vision to bring help and hope through this book, which has now become a vital resource for more than one hundred thousand military families around the world.
I want to thank the professional partners who have helped to provide copies of this book for these amazing families, and they include USAA, James Robison of the Life Today television show, my friends at Military Ministry, as well as Andy and Joan Horner of Premier Designs. These partners have purchased and distributed thousands of copies of Heroes at Home with one thought in mind: to help military families with a free gift and a timely resource.
My original editor at Bethany House was Steve Laube, who contracted the first edition of this book. Then he became a literary agent and is now an advocate for the book as well as my literary representative. I want to thank Steve for believing in my work for almost a decade and partnering with me to bring entertainment, encouragement, and education to people around the world. I also want to thank Julie Smith, at Bethany House, whom I’ve known for a decade and partnered with in many projects. I appreciate your professionalism, kindness, and the fact that you don’t require that I do formatting work (since I don’t understand all those styles and forms).
This book was made all the more authentic from the profiles and work submitted by various heroes at home. I want to thank Keri Powers Pye, Bobbie Kennedy, Jessica Culley, Kara Siert, Stephanie Theis, Michelle Cuthrell, Joann Patrick, Myra Hinote, Brenda Taylor, and Paquita Rawleigh for their writing and their profiles. The diversity among this group is remarkable and represents all military ranks, demographics, and branches of the service. I say, “Semper Fi, Hoo-ah, and Aim High” to all of you!
When I gave my very first Heroes at Home presentation to a handful of military families, I had a professional partner with me: Wendy Wendler. She was a friend as well as my personal assistant. We had no idea that this message would someday go on tour and eventually speak to eight thousand people in an auditorium, where they stood on their feet and cheered for our heroes. Wendy was my right hand and I thank her for nine years of service.
I want to thank my precious family for being such good sports with my crazy life as an author and speaker. They’ve given me permission to tell their stories and show their pictures. They’ve stepped up to the plate in taking over responsibilities at home while I travel, and they’ve prayed for our military members and their families. I am so proud of each one of you and wouldn’t trade you for anything. I am a wealth
