IT’S GREAT TO BE A GUY!
rom the second you were born, your body has been in wonFder what on earth is happening to you. transition to become a man. It all seems to be so barely noticeable, but pretty soon puberty strikes and you The word “awkward” comes to mind. But don’t worry. Tens of millions of guys are going through the same things you’re about to go through:
Your body may be thickening.
You’re growing taller by the second.
At some point your voice might squeak like a mouse— and you can be sure it’ll happen at the most embarrassing moment possible.
The hair on your head may be getting thicker and more oily.
And hair is appearing in the most surprising places.
One thing is for sure: you’ll stink! [] Wecome to puberty!
These next few years are going to be an incredible adventure for you. I want you to know I’m honored to be your guide as you work through this book. I’ve based these pages on God’s Word and, since 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching us the correct way to live, I’m 100 percent positive I’m using the right source.

Look at this book as if it was an instruction manual attached to your ankle when you were born. It gives instructions on how you operate, how you’re powered, and what to do if you’re not working like you should. Years ago, when I was where you are now, a lot of good happened—as well as some bad stuff. Looking back, it would have been great to have this book then, since I was so unprepared. Through these pages, you’ll be able to see the future—to know what’s coming and to anticipate it rather than to be constantly surprised and confused by the crazy changes in your body and mind. I hope you’ll begin to understand that God designed your body and mind to be most fulfilled as you glorify and enjoy Him. He has a perfect plan for your exact design even if you can’t understand it all yet. You’ll quickly see that the Bible has alotto say about your body and its purpose, and that’s the main reason I’m writing this to you. After looking at Scripture and God’s plan, you’re going to know without a doubt thatit’sgreat to be aguy! I’m also going to get practical. Because you don’t have to go through life smelling like your armpits. There’s this thing called deodorant. (More on that in chapter 3.) And there’ll be answers to questions about what’s going on below the belt in chapter 7. It’s time to discover what the Bible tells us about taking care of this amazing vessel He has created…your body! ] [You’ve got thîs, dude!

In this book I’m going to remind you to use one of the most powerful organs you have. It’s not a muscle, but scientists say it’s like a muscle in that it gets stronger with use. What organ do you think we’re talking about? The brain!
Your brain is made up of about 75 percent water. 1No wonder ît’s so împortant to drînk penty o water durîng the day. Make sure to keep your braîn hydrated by drînkîng 1.5-2 îters o water every sînge day (that’s about the sîze o a bîg no, soda doesn’t count). soda botte…and
Your brain thinks at a speed of 150-200 miles per hour. 2 That’s about the same speed as a NASCAR race car! To keep your thînkîng speed up, make sure to eat heathy ood and get penty o exercîse.

The skill I’ll teach you to muscle up your brain with God’s Word ismeditation. So, before you get into the great subject of your body, I’d like to take a little time to introduce you to meditation. This practice session even offers meditation verses to get you kickstarted on this biblical journey through puberty.
What Is Meditation?
Well, you might think it’s some crazy, weird thing only girls do while sitting crosslegged in a yoga position and humming. That’s not true at all. That kind of meditation is just a sad fake for God’s original. Let’s see if I can help you get an idea of what God thinks meditation should look like. To begin with, some Christians are so rigid about praying all the time, they never study. And some Christians are so consumed study ing, studying, studying the Bible that they don’t take time to pray.
Some Chrîstîans are reay rîgîd about studyîng, studyîng, studyîng the Bîbe!
STUDIER
Some Chrîstîans are so consumed wîth prayîng a the tîme, they never study!
PRAY-ER
The risk for thestudîeris that his faith gets stuck in his head. He never has theheartto follow God because he’s always arguing or defending what hethinksabout God.

IT’S GREAT TO BE A GUY!
The risk forthepray-eris that his faith is all about his heart. He makes decisions to follow God based on how hefeelsand forgets to think about what Godhas already told himin His written Word. (God will neverask you to do something that disagrees with the Bible.) But then there’s a third type ofMEDITATOR person. Ameditatorstudies the Bibleand then asks God to help him understand it while he prays. A wise pastor once said that meditation is what happens when studying and praying crash into each other! I’m going tokeep this simple. Most of the Bible verses you’ll need are printedrightinthisbook.Theonlythingyou’llneedaresome different colored highlighters, markers, or pencils These are your meditation tools. Got ’em? Okay. Let’s just get them warmed up by practicing meditation.
DIG I Nby StudyingPsalm 139:13-16 Throughout this book, you’ll see this symbol inviting you to “dig in.” This means you’re about tostudyGod’s Word, kind of like an archaeologist studies the ground to uncover mysteries, secrets, and stories. So plop on your hard hat and get ready to dig. Let’s give it a try, okay?
