Sample Book Insights:
#1 I met Marco at the restaurant where we both worked. I was a waitress to make the money that did not seem to be materializing from my acting and modeling careers. Two years out of college, I had quit my job as an analyst at a hedge fund and decided to become a full-time actor.
#2 At the end of the training, we went to a local dive bar two blocks away. I sat next to Marco, and we began talking about our relationships. I thought, I am going to marry that man. It was a quick, involuntary thought, and I recoiled as soon as it had passed through my mind.
#3 I met a man named Marco at a bar, and we ended up talking for hours. I felt like I was speaking only for him, and I was aware of his intense eyes on me the entire time. I told him about my parents, who were the parents that my friends wished they had.
#4 I met a man named Marco, who was from Argentina, and we began to talk. He was very open about his past, and I found it fascinating. I wanted to know everything about him, but in the next moment, he cleared his throat and smiled. I think they’re closing up. You better go inside right now.

Insights from Chapter 2

#1

I am sitting on the couch, holding my newborn daughter, Louisa, when I receive an e-mail from my husband, Marco. It is dated almost two weeks ago, January 9. Two weeks ago, I was in Maine with Lulu and my parents in my childhood home. Marco’s boss was taking vacation the first couple of weeks of January, and Marco was going to be working nonstop at Angel’s Wing, the trendy downtown restaurant he manages.

#2

I had three auditions that day, and they all went fine. But I left each one with a sinking feeling. The chipper Thank you’s from the casting directors seemed to say, I won’t remember you five seconds from now, but thanks for wasting everyone’s time.

#3

I met someone new, and I had to break up with my boyfriend Jeff. I was nervous about my roommate coming home any minute, but I was ecstatic. I thought about Marco nonstop.

#4

I would always be on the lookout for Marco, as I knew we would be working together. I would get extremely happy whenever I saw him, and he would get extremely cheesy.

#5

I was with Marco constantly, and I felt drunk every time I was with him. I loved being with him, and I wanted it to be my full-time occupation. I didn’t care where we were or what we were doing; I just wanted to be close to him.

#6

I found an email between me and an apartment broker, in which I was referred to as his girlfriend. I was shocked and upset. My husband explained that the server was Croatian and new in the US, and she pleaded with him to call the broker for her.

#7

I was having a hard time dealing with the fact that my husband had done a favor for another woman. I felt extremely uncomfortable about it, and we needed to talk about it in person.

#8

I met Sebastian’s seven-year-old son, Sebastian, at a Brazilian restaurant a few blocks from my apartment.
