Description

This 2nd book is a continuation of the 1st book.
The index at the back of the book is brilliant. The contents list, at the front of the book, is in alphabetical order, and is a list of the horses names, gives paragraph numbers. Whereas the Index gives the Rider/Owner in alphanumeric order and gives paragraph numbers. So if you do not know the name of a persons horse you would look up the person in the Index and it would indicate the paragraph numbers to find the answer.
For instance: Steptoe and Son would be under 'S' in the Index and this would lead you to 'Hercules', the strong man from Greek Mythology. Or Toy Story 2 would lead you to 'Bullseye'
Books 3 and 4 are in the process of compiling, it’s a “Never Ending Story”.

Introduction
Humans began to domesticate horses around 4000 BC, and their domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BC. Horses in the subspecies caballus are domesticated, although some domesticated populations live in the wild as feral horses. These feral populations are not true wild horses, as this term is used to describe horses that have never been domesticated, such as the endangered Przewalski’s horse, a separate subspecies, and the only remaining true wild horse. There is an extensive, specialized vocabulary used to describe equine-related concepts, covering everything from anatomy to life stages, size, colours, markings, breeds, locomotion, and behaviour.
Horses’ anatomy enables them to make use of speed to escape predators and they have a well-developed sense of balance and a strong fight-or flight response. Related to this need to flee from predators in the wild is an unusual trait: horses are able to sleep both standing up and lying down. Female horses, called mares, carry their young for approximately 11 months, and a young horse, called a foal, can stand and run shortly following birth. Most domesticated horses begin training under saddle or in harness between the ages of two and four. They reach full adult development by age five, and have an average lifespan of between 25 and 30 years. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horse

The Faerie Queene is an English epic poem by Edmund Spenser. Books I–III were first published in 1590, then republished in 1596 together with books IV–VI. The Faerie Queene is notable for its form: at over 36,000 lines and over 4,000 stanzas it is one of the longest poems in the English language; it is also the work in which Spenser invented the verse form known as the Spenserian stanza. On a literal level, the poem follows several knights as a means to examine different virtues, and though the text is primarily an allegorical work, it can be read on several levels of allegory, including as praise (or, later, criticism) of Queen Elizabeth I. In Spenser’s “Letter of the Authors”, he states that the entire epic poem is “cloudily enwrapped in Allegorical devices”, and that the aim of publishing The Faerie Queene was to “fashion a gentleman or noble person in virtuous and gentle discipline…….

About The Author
Born 16 May 1936. One of eight children. Family lived at 46 Seaward Street, Kinning Park Glasgow (now junction 21 of the M8). Evacuated to Ireland during the second world war (1939 to 1945). In 1946 family moved to new house 9 Blackstone Ave, Pollok. Lots of rooms, inside toilet, bath, electric sockets throughout the house.
Why did I compile this list of famous horses? Well as a boy in Glasgow, and coming from a large family, instead of pocket money we were given sixpence on Saturday morning to go to the local cinema, the Imperial at the Paisley Road Toll, to attend the “sixpenny matinee”. We had to queue up before the doors opened. The films were black and white and usually “B” movies. We called this “going to the pictures”.
I loved the cowboys and Indian films, the cowboys had their own horses, cowboys like Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger and Gene Autry. Then there was the sheriffs who wore a silver star, and their posse, the posse had to be sworn in by the sheriff, you only saw these guys on horseback, I always thought that they were like centaurs half man half horse and I wondered how they changed their trousers! Other horse riding stars had their own horses, like Zorro. Famous people had their own horse.
At Christmas time all I got was a packet of coloured plasticine which I loved. I made little cowboys and used a domino as the horse. Roy Roger’s domino was the double six, and with the domino you could make a nice “clip-clop” sound on the table (sad). Hopalong Cassidy’s horse was the double four domino.
