Introduction to the Student

Betty Ladley Finkbeiner Charles Allan Finkbeiner
The Student Workbook, DVD, and Patterson EagleSoft practice management software have been integrated to help you practice and perfect the skills and objectives emphasized in Practice Management for the Dental Team, 8th Edition. The Student Workbook includes the following information, exercises, and activities to help you succeed within the office environment and become a valuable member of the dental team:
Chapter Summaries briefly recap the key concepts and goals of each chapter.
Learning Outcomes identify the knowledge and skills necessary to master the topic areas discussed in each chapter.
Short-Answer or Fill-In Questions help you to identify and list information from knowledge learned in the chapter, as well as learn to apply that information to real-world practice in a dental office environment. Some of the questions also require you to synthesize the information and decide how you might handle certain situations in a practice environment.
Multiple-Choice Questions and Matching Exercises ask you to recall information and concepts presented within the chapter and in some instances to think critically and apply the information to achieve best practice and professional success.
Practical Activities put you, the student, into the role of the practicing professional and ask you to complete realistic daily tasks, pulling information learned within the chapters and putting that into practice.
Software Tutorials introduce you to real-world dental practice in the form of the Patterson EagleSoft practice management software program. The tutorials direct you step by step through a series of exercises that demonstrate basic and advanced functions typically performed in day-to-day dental office management. Tutorials are included for Chapter 7 on patient information and dental office documents, Chapter 11 on appointment scheduling and management, Chapter 12 on recall procedures, Chapter 14 on dental insurance, and Chapter 15 on accounts receivable. Tutorial skills progress throughout these chapters, and it is important to complete them in the chapter order in which they are presented to maximize their effectiveness.
Critical Thinking Activities pose potential situations and ask you to use what you have learned to determine how best they can be handled to achieve success in the office environment.
