INTRODUCTION
Siddhartha Gautama was born in what is today Nepal around 563 B.C. Although he was entitled to a life of privilege, he left his family at the age of twenty-nine and went in search of enlightenment.

He studied under various teachers, practiced meditation and engaged in various levels of asceticism and eventually earned the title of Buddha which means “The Enlightened One”.

This resulted in his “Four Noble Truths” which can be summarized as follows:
1. There is suffering in the world.
2. This suffering is the result of uncontrolled desires.
3. We can minimize suffering by controlling our desires.
4. To do so we must follow the “Eightfold Path”

To share and teach this path became the mission of his life, and today Buddhism is practiced at different levels in various countries in the world.

A central piece of the “Eightfold Path” is all people and creatures are interconnected and interdependent. By pondering and learning from Buddha’s quotes and teachings we can reduce the pain in our life and minimize the suffering and harm we cause each other. By doing so, we make our piece of the world a better place.

I hope you benefit from 101 Selected Sayings of Buddha as much as I have in putting it together.
