BOOK ENDORSEMENTS
“It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Qur’an is one of the most misunderstood religious texts in the English speaking world today. Day in and day out, people are bombarded with negative images of Islam everywhere they go: movies, TV, radio, and print. Whenever a sincere and open-minded individual decides to undertake the journey to study Islam beyond the politically motivated video clips and sound bytes, they usually aim to study the ultimate source of the religion: the Qur’an. However, upon entering a bookstore or library, the reader is faced with several different translations, often with little to no commentary to explain what the Qur’an is actually trying to say, thus making the sincere effort of breaking out of the propaganda box even more difficult.

The Qur’an is a text, but did not appear in a vacuum. The text is accompanied by a context: a history of how and why the book came about and to whom it is speaking. Without this context, and other brief explanations of clarity, the Qur’an can be a difficult book to understand. The author of the present work has done an excellent job in providing precisely the right amount of explanation needed by the average reader to grasp the core message of the Qur’an. From this, it is hoped that a true appreciation of Islam and its message will become clearly distinct from the mischievous propaganda, or even sometimes sincere ignorance, about the religion to which approximately 1.6 billion people in the world ascribe to.”

“This book offers a unique thematic reading of the Qur’an with sparse commentary allowing for direct access to the actual teachings of the scripture considered sacred by 1/4th of the world’s population. The selection of verses not only provides insight into the main teachings and values of Islam, but also tackles the more controversial issues as well. This is an important read.”

“The beauty of the new book “A Basic Guide To Understanding The Qur’an” is the ability of the writer to grasp important topics or themes confronting the readers in the contemporary life we face day in and day out. Once he selected the topics, then he brought the Qur’anic verses that deal with each chosen topic from the Qur’an. The source of each verse is documented by the name of the chapter or Surah as well as the number of the verse for those who wish to go to the original Qur’anic text.

The writer used simple English in his style of writing which is very easy to understand by all different readers. His translation of the Arabic words into English reflects a personal and sincere attempt to capture the meaning of the Arabic Qur’anic text. It must have taken a long time from him to look for the appropriate English words to seize the Arabic meaning.

The book is well written, well searched, and well-presented. I strongly recommend it as an easy reading to understand what the writer chose from the themes of the Qur’an. It is a good source for various readers who wish to know about the Qur’an and Islam, who wish to find common areas among the Abrahamic faiths, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and those who wish to know about the guidance of the Qur’an in a topical order.”

“The author did a wonderful service to familiarize and introduce the English speaking readers with a topical overview of the Holy Qur’an; the final revelation from God. It is well organized, simple to read and is an easy reference that can be consulted for a quick reference to the Qur’an. The author is commended for a job well done to enrich the vast library on the Qur’an.”

“This book translates and presents the Qur’an in a simple, easy to read English language. It is organized in such a way that leads the reader who might be more acquainted with other religious texts to follow the religious history of Islam and compare its message with other religious texts like Christianity and Judaism. The book allows the reader to look at the Islamic religion as a positive way of life; not hindered by bias, misunderstanding, misinterpretation of public opinion, or cultural differences. It gives the reader the choice and the opportunity to make up one’s own mind and now be able to dialogue the merits of Islam and the Qur’an with other beliefs and writings. This reader found the book easy to read, and equally important, to understand the continuation of the message . It bridges the gap between the told message and being able to read the message for its intrinsic value. The author should be commended for translating and arranging verses of the Qur’an in a simple way for all to read and understand.”

“By using common, plain English language and grouping the Qur’anic verses by subject, the author provides a valuable, easy and accessible way for non-Muslims and Muslims to grasp the major Qur’anic themes and prophets’ stories. The translation combined with short introductions give the reader a reference point for understanding Islam as revealed in the Quran.  This book is an invaluable reference for those seeking to compare or understand Islam in light of other faith traditions.”
