Poems And Quotations

INTRODUCTION
This book is for my husband, Eustace George Levy. It is about the tower of strength and courage God has given us to serve God’s people for more than thirty-two years. My husband’s dedication and commitment have touched many lives.
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show the same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. (Heb. 6:10–11)
The things that accompany salvation were manifest in the lives of the saints: Their work, their labors of love, and their faith manifested in a life of good works. They had the hallmark of true Christianity. They continue to serve the Lord’s people for his sake. God does not forget the things we have done with pure hearts and a right attitude.

PART 1

CHAPTER 1
THE ROCK THAT IS HIGHER THAN I
David had a wonderful relationship with the Lord. To him God was everything. Especially in times of danger, when a situation seemed utterly hopeless, he had learned to depend upon the Lord.
Into the throne room of the universe comes the familiar voice of David, crying out to God: “Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer” (Ps. 61:1). God is delighted to hear the childlike faith of his servant, who needs instant audience with the sovereign God.
The psalmist feels himself near death. He asks God to lead him to a secure place, a place that is higher than he is. The place of security that he seeks is beyond his reach; only God can bring him to it. God is always confessed by the psalmist to be his “rock of refuge,” for God has never failed him as a refuge. He acknowledges that he does not have the wisdom or the strength to direct his own steps, so he asks the Lord to lead the psalmist to himself, the Rock of ages.
As the song writer rightly says, Rock of ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee;
Let the water and the blood, from thy wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure, save from wrath and make me pure.
“For you have been a shelter for me, a strong tower against the foe.”
David had proved him to be his trustworthy refuge and a tower of strength to which the righteous can run for safety.
The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are safe. (Prov. 18:10)
He then goes on to say:
I long to dwell in your tent for ever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
It is a beautiful picture. David is surrounded by all kinds of foes, all kinds of hazards, and all kinds of distress, yet the Lord enables him to walk safely through them as if they didn’t exist. Prayers like these cannot fail to touch the throne room of God! Such tender affection and simple trust could never be refused.

CHAPTER 2
THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving promotes the spirit of humility. It is a delight to show genuine gratitude to God for his mercy, his abundance, his protection, his favors, and his love that never ends.
Let us enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good, and his love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generation.
A missionary was deeply discouraged. He knew that his work was not progressing as it should. One day while visiting another missionary, he saw a motto card on the wall. It read, “Try Thanksgiving.” It was an arrow to his soul. He suddenly realized that thanksgiving had been missing from his prayers. There had been plenty of asking God for things he desired and needed. He had asked desperately at times. But he had forgotten to thank God for what he had received.
The missionary began to count his blessings and to pour out his heart in thanksgiving and praise to God. No sooner had he done so than his work began to prosper.
The psalmist, David, expressed his gratitude to God; in Psalm 103: “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all my inmost being, praise his holy name” (NIV). Here we call on our souls to bless the Lord. The entire person of our being—our spirits, souls, and bodies—are cued in to praise the holy name of Jehovah.
The call rings out the second time, with a reminder that we should not forget all God’s benefits. His heart overflowed in thanksgiving and praise as he meditated on his failure to give thanks for all the blessings he had received and prayers that had been answered.
It is a needed reminder. Too often we forget to thank God for soundness of body and mind, sight, hearing, and a host of other mercies we take for granted. Most of all, we should thank God for forgiving all our iniquities. It is an unspeakable miracle of divine grace and mercy that crimson sin can be made whiter than snow.
The next benefit to remember is the healing of all our diseases. God is the source of all healing. He also redeems our lives from the pit of destruction and deliver us from dangers, accidents, and tragedies.
God crowns us with loving kindness and tender mercies. His loving kindness is better than life. He loves us with an everlasting love. He satisfies our mouths with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagle’s. He does not withhold any good thing from those who walk upright.
It is recorded in the Bible that Jesus gave thanks
