Description

Have you ever thought about the possible relevance of Bible prophecies to our lives today? In this book, you will find new perspectives to consider on the prophecies of Daniel and related history. These viewpoints may lead to seeing our world in a different light. Stepping away from preconceived ideas about prophecies, in general, and Daniel’s visions, in particular, give new perspective based on decades of study, prayer and insightful contemplation. Compelling insights bring to light precisely how these prophetic dates are interrelated, how they have significant meaning, and may have implications for our lives today.
Even though the Biblical book of Daniel was written millennia ago, interest in its meaning for faith and the heart remain. A broader perspective and the lens of history brings additional context and reconsideration to earlier interpretations. Without these perspectives, some tended to have been taken piecemeal, out of context, or viewed without an understanding of the role of each element in their interrelation to the whole. This book reexamines many of these and more, and, based upon a review of literature, no book is found that matches the comprehensive nature regarding each of Daniel’s nine prophetic spans.
Dr. Dermott brings out the meanings behind each date, and he correlates Biblical authorities with each other and with further compelling and original research. The narrative invites you to join this exciting journey and experience the exceptionally detailed unfoldment from each beginning prophetic date to its undeniable fulfillment in history.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
There are several people I wish to thank, beginning with those who read the first draft several years ago. My daughter Danica and sister-in-law Diane offered their comments for about a year and a half. Special thanks go to my wife Lynn who did most of the original typing and to my brother Leonard before his passing who meticulously went over every paragraph of the original document detail by detail.
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. Revelation 1:3
CHAPTER I

DANIEL’S THESIS FOR UNDERSTANDING VISIONS: HOW TO RECEIVE AND INTERPRET THEM
(Daniel Chapter 1)
For years this author thought that the book of Daniel was just a collection of interesting stories with prophecies interspersed among them. But when he studied Daniel more thoroughly, examining how the parts fit into a whole, he could see for the first time how each story related to either the book’s thesis or a specific prophecy expanding the thesis.
So, what is Daniel’s thesis? The topic for the entire book is visions and prophecies, those relating to what Christ Jesus called “the times of the Gentiles” (Luke 21:24). Included is God’s plan for righteousness or purity (the Old Testament major prophets’ terms for the impersonal Christ) to crush the temporal power of four world empires through what Daniel revealed and Christians now call the First and Second Comings of the Christ. The theme is that the reader needs to understand the prophecies and the time when they were going to unfold in human experience.
Also fundamental are three points of God’s plan according to the book of Daniel, a plan presumably designed to account for when humanity has advanced enough to comprehend and accept it along the way. These three major points (in Daniel and in corresponding history) stand out, both independently and interactively: First, 2520 years (Daniel 4) shall pass with the saints subject to the temporal power of four world empires, symbolized in Daniel as four beasts (Daniel 7) and as four parts of a giant image (Daniel 2: head of gold, chest and arms of silver, thighs of brass, and legs of iron). Feet of iron and clay make the whole image susceptible to collapsing at the end of the 2520 years. Two sets of 1260 years make up the 2520 years of these four beasts.
Second, the First Advent of the BRANCH comes near the center of the first 1260 years (Daniel 9). (In the sixteenth century, Protestants and the Catholic Church would debate over whether “the Messiah the Prince” in Daniel 9 is Jesus Christ or Onias III, causing problems for scholars interpreting Daniel. The real debate behind the above debate was over whether Daniel’s abomination of desolation was Rome and/or the Pope, according to the Protestants, or Antiochus Epiphanes, according to Rome.)
And third, the abomination of desolation would be established at the midpoint of the 2520 years, the beginning of the second 1260 years (Daniel 7), at the end of which the Stone cut out of the mountain without hands (Daniel 2) (the imper- sonal Christ) would fall on the image’s feet of iron and clay and thus pave the way for the Second Advent. Following the end of the second 1260 years, end of the entire 2520 years, shall be a period of thirty years (Daniel 7, 8, 9, 12) in which six of Daniel’s seven prophetic spans pertaining to the Second Advent shall terminate (Daniel 7, 9, 12). The seventh prophecy shall extend forty-five years beyond those thirty (Daniel 12), at which time a blessing is promised, Daniel’s last prophecy.
Thus is God’s plan as laid out in Daniel. The purpose of this book, Breakthrough Analysis of Daniel’s Prophecies, is to fill in (as much as possible) the details of this divine plan presented by the prophet and interpreted by biblical scholars over the centuries.
To begin, examine the storyline of Daniel’s Chapter 1 and its implications.
Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had besieged and destroyed Jerusalem and its temple in about 607 B.C. He had carried away into Babylonian captivity the children of Judah, including Daniel and his three friends, Hanani ah, Mishael, and Azariah:
17 As for these four children, God ga ve them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
19 And the king communed with them: and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore stood they before the king.
20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
Thus t he theme of Chapter 1 is set forth: to express learning and wisdom and to have “understanding in all visions and dreams.”
What did these four do to be such advanced thinkers? The answer lies in the story.
The prince of the eunuchs had been commanded to prepare the best prospects for advising the king by feeding them the best food—the best meat and wine. However, Daniel wished “that he might not defile himself” (verse 8).
